Convergence Mock Draft
By Apolo Shapiro

Welcome to the draft convergence mock draft, on this article I’ll try to do a mock draft while compare the picks with alternative universes as NFL and SFL.

1.1 NFL - Cincinnati Bengals - QB Carson Palmer

After a difficult season of 2-14 the Bengals decided to draft best player available and their future franchise QB, despite a solid career he couldn’t take the Bengals to the promise land, and ended his carrer in Arizona. Hard to call him a bust, solid player.

1.1 SFL - Arizona Cardinals - QB Carson Palmer

Key Attributes 75 awr - 95 thp - 88 tha

I worked really hard in tanking for him, traded away all my starters and went 1-15 to get first overall pick, it helped me to win a SB in 2005 and then was traded for a massive haul to Bryan Redskins, where he won another SB. Definitely one of the best QB in SFL history

1.1 PTF - Cincinnati Bengals - QB Carson Palmer

Key Attributes 21 yo - 55 awr - 95 thp - 86 tha

I’m not convinced he’s the best player on the board but I can’t break the triple crown, It feels correct Palmer is 1.1 on the 3 leagues, also QB is the most important position of the game and can’t win without one, Im not sure an opportunity like this will repeat + Phil is a Bengals fan and makes sense he tries to finally give Palmer a ring as a Bengal. PD: It feels really weird writing an article and not seeing Brady as Bengals GM

1.2 NFL - Detroit Lions - WR Charles Rogers

Charles Rogers was a massive bust, he only “played” 3 seasons at NFL, this is the kind of picks and decisions that made Lions mediocre for a long time, I guess he seemed as a flashy prospect but he never stablished as starter.

1.2 SFL - Detroit Lions - QB Byron Leftwich

Key Attributes 66 awr - 92 thp - 91 tha

Lions got 1.2 in all leagues, Brad Barber started his love and somehow masochist relationship of developing QB here. The pick wasn’t “bad” but he never stablished as the franchise QB team was expecting and was traded after 2 season, being at hot seat didn’t help the cause. He was a journeyman and found some success but could never win the big game-

1.2 PFT - Detroit Lions - SS Troy Polamalu

Key Attributes 23 yo - 98 spd - 64 awr - 94 tak

I don’t think is wise to pick a Safety when need a QB, but Polamalu is generational talent and Rodany have proven multiple times he likes investing on his safeties, he should be worried about drafting his franchise QB,100% but he won’t care, not like he’s used to win, right? PD: Wish he was in my division, but he’s scared. Being serious, curious to see how Rodany handle this, I still think is possible he picks WR Osgood here, he fits well the kind of player he likes.

1.3 NFL - Houston Texans - WR Andre Johnson

The young franchise of Texas had to bring in talent and for sure they did, Andre Johnson in my opinion is one of those underrated WR, I saw him play on his last seasons, and was a dominant player. If he were on better teams with better QB he could’ve been way way better. Definitely a home run pick

1.3 SFL - Dallas Cowboys - WR Andre Johnson

Key Attributes 93 spd - 71 awr - 85 catch

William Cook had to work with the team no one wanted, Dallas Cowboys, his first pick ever was Andre Johnson and he was a solid player all around, in words from Will he have mention how much he liked this pick. Johnson was productive in all the time with dallas, having multiple seasons with double digit TD. Late his carrer became a journeyman, he couldn’t win a SB

1.3 PFT - Pittsburgh Steelers - WR Andre Johnson

Key Attributes 22 yo - 89 spd - 69 awr - 93 catch

Wade made a bold move and traded up, placing his future in jeopardy, this move could be one he ends up regretting, but he has a stud now. The logic says he should get a QB, but I think he’ll pick BPA. Here’s a debate with Boldin depending skews, but I wanted to keep Andre on same spot. Very progressed WR and big body, can’t go wrong with this pickI think Wade would’ve loved to reunite Polamalu with Steelers but on this mock Rodany grabbed him 1.2, Personal Note: Polamalu is my favorite player on draft, I was hoping him to fall to 1.5 and even considered trading up to 1.3, but Rod at 1.2 made it hard, and now Wade is at 1.3 I made peace with myself.

1.4 NFL - New York Jets - DT Dewayne Robertson

Jets traded up to 1.4 for grab an anchor of their DL, sadly for them Robertson was just a decent player. He wasn’t a complete bust as played multiple seasons with team, but wasn’t a difference maker.

1.4 SFL - Buffalo Bills - QB Rex Grossman

Key Attributes 66 awr - 97 thp - 85 tha

I think this was a very good pick, back then thp was a really valuable attribute. Bills were not patient with him and traded him away to Washington where he won a SB, and then surprisingly traded away for 1.1 QB Carson Palmer, later on his career Grossman won another SB with Cardinals. A 2 times SB QB is definitely and excellent pick

1.4 PFT - Chicago Bears - QB Rex Grossman

Key Attributes 22 yo - 60 awr - 89 thp - 86 tha

So Bears and GM Brent take advantage of 1.2 and 1.3 not taking QB and they sign their franchise QB, the only negative on him is the thp and with new camp rules, he can easily be progressed. Grossman was also a bear in nfl, not sure if that is positive or negative for Brent, we will find out tomorrow.

1.5 NFL Dallas Cowboys - CB Terrence Newman

A very productive Cornerback the Cowboys got an excellent player here, the position doesn’t get that much love in NFL but definitely a key piece on that team

1.5 SFL - Jacksonville Jaguars - OT Brett Williams

Key Attributes 68 spd - 93 str - 55 awr - 82 pbk - 86 rbk

The first OL taken in the draft, those attributes doesn’t look impressive for late SFL but he was very athletic for early SFL, personally I consider taking a stud OL is a safe move, whenever in doubt is hard to go wrong there.

1.5 PFT Dallas Cowboys - CB Terrence Newman

Key Attributes 22 yo - 97 spd - 62 awr - 72 cth - 76 tak

I think the size will scare some GM, myself included, Im not entirely sure I’ll draft him if he’s there, usually I don’t love doing mocks for this reason, when comes to draft I like keeping my targets on secret, but being legit here. I doubt I draft QB here, Big-Ben all day! The CB position is awful bad on the league and Newman is by far the best player on the position, fast and smart. I could be bluffing and pick my franchise QB, you’ll find out tomorrow. Cool thing cowboys drafted him at NFL

1.6 NFL New Orleans Saints - DT Jonathan Sullivan

The saints traded up for grab him and he was a massive bust, he played 3 seasons with minimal impact

1.6 SFL Cleveland Browns - WR Tyrone Calico

Key Attributes 6”3 - 94 spd - 57 awr - 78 catch

Calico was a decent player, with some high moment but not a difference maker, he could never take the next step and probably he was most known for his big contract in FA.

1.6 PFT Arizona Cardinals - OL Chris Dielman

Key Attributes 21 yo - 74 spd - 90 str - 96 pbk - 90 rbk

It wouldn’t surprise me if Will is aiming for CB Newman, but on this MockI drafted him. I don’t think Will going to draft QB, for sure will think about it, but he have developed a philosophy of patience. On the past he have drafted OL high and Dielman is a stud, very young, very progressed.

1.7 NFL Jacksonville Jaguars - QB Byron Leftwich

Byron Leftwich was a bust, he stayed 4 years in Jacksonville before play for other teams with non success and end his career. Jaguars had high expectatives on him being their franchise QB, but that never happened

1.7 SFL Pittsburgh Steelers - CB Marcus trufant

Key Attributes 93 speed - 67 awr - 66 cth - 52 tak

Trufant was a player with solid attributes that could never live the expectations, doesn’t seem as he had any premium season and mostly played on teams struggled. Was a solid player but not an elite one

1.7 PFT Houston Texans - WR Anquan Boldin

Key Attributes 23 - 6”1 - 95 spd - 54 awr - 77 cth

I predict Boldin will go on this spot but not to Texans, GM AC have been trying hard to trade the pick, I think on the next hours we could see a deal, and if that doesn’t happen but Boldin falls to 1.7 as on this mock, someone will try hard to trade up during draft. Boldin is the most athletic and explosive WR with a solid body frame, it’s posible he’s drafted way higher depending on skew, but the age, could scare some GM

1.8 NFL Carolina Panthers - OL Jordan Gross

Jordan Gross played all his career with Panthers, and he was a key member of their OL, definitely a very solid pick for the team, he reached SB in 2004 and could’ve been a key member for 2015 Panthers SB team.

1.8 SFL Minnesota Vikings MLB EJ Henderson

Neal built a powerhouse team, and Henderson was the heart of that defense, sadly Henderson was already retired when Vikings won the SB, still he was a very productive player and one of best MLB in league history

Key Attributes 85 spd - 66 awr - 85 tak

1.8 PFT Jacksonville Jaguars OLB EJ Henderson

Key Attributes 22 yo - 94 spd - 56 awr - 78 tak

The Jaguars are in an interesting position, they don’t have awful QB, but also they don’t seem to be their long time answer, yet if all the teams above that are in huge need for QB haven’t pull the trigger, Jaguars won’t do it. They’ll grab an stud LB at EJ Henderson instead, keeping the same spot he was taken at SFL.

1.9 NFL Minnesota Vikings - DT Kevin Williams

Vikings hit a home run here, they drafted one of the best interior DL of the century. Names HOF of 2000, 6 times pro bowler and 5 times all pro. Played almost all his carrer with Minnesota

1.9 SFL Jacksonville Jaguars - CB Charles Tillman

Key Attributes 93 spd - 54 awr - 64 cth - 52 tak

Jaguars got a project CB with high potential but that needed progression, they traded him after 2 seasons to Raiders where spent all his career. He was a solid CB, on a very strong team.

1.9 PFT Carolina Panthers - QB Brooks Bollinger

Key Attributes 23 yo - 54 awr - 96 thp - 90 tha

The QB won’t keep falling anymore, Panthers takes advantage of that and grab a QB with rocket arm and very high tha. The age and awr are concerns that made me place him as 3rd QB taken, but depending the skew and the GM targets him everything could change, one of the best QB prospects.

1.10 NFL Baltimore Ravens - LB Terrell Suggs

So far on this article the best NFL pick, key member of a generational defense, 2 times SB champion, 7x pro bowler and DROY. Suggs was a physical all terrain linebacker the Ravens got a diamond here

1.10 SFL Seattle Seagawks - WR David Tyree

Key Attributes 6”1 93 spd - 56 awr - 69 cth

A very strong WR, and a hard one to judge he struggled to gain yards but had some seasons were was very productive at the end zone, he wasn’t a franchise changer but was consistent and offered some good seasons.

1.10 PFT Baltimore Ravens - QB Byron Leftwich

Key Attributes 21 yo - 56 awr - 86 thp - 89 tha

Norb is a very analytical GM, if somehow his stats analysis told him thp is overrated he’ll run to the podium and grab a 21 yo high tha qb at 1.10 spot. The team needs their future QB, and this is good value here.

I’ll try to finish the rest of picks but for now, I could only do 10. Happy draft day
