2003 Prime Time Football Mock Draft
I am doing this without having done done any private work outs so far. I am taking league whispers, rumors and 2nd hand gossip into this mock as well.
Pick 1: Cincinnati Bengals & GM Phillip Mellon
QB Carson Palmer
College: USC, 21 years old, 6’5”
AWR 55, THA 95, THP, 86, INJ 95, TGH 99
I am 99.5% sure the Bengals and GM Phillip are going with Carson Palmer here however I do not believe this was not as much of a slam dunk as most GM’s think. In my opinion GM Phillip was using WR Anquan Boldin as a smokescreen and using the fact that everyone expected the pick to be Palmer to help keep SS Troy Polamalu. I know for a fact GM Phillip fell in love with Polamalu’s 98 SPD, 75 STR & 94 TAK. Honestly, who would not fall in love with these stats. In the end though, I believe GM Phill, who is a hometown, Cincinnati Bengals fan in real life (a little 4th wall breaking here) and as a GM entering a new league, you simply can not miss taking your franchise QB with the #1 overall pick. Palmer will get relive his connection with Chad Ochocinco Johnson.
Pick 2: Detroit Lions & GM Rodany Mendez
WR Anquan Boldin
College: Florida State, 23 years old, 6’1”
AWR 54, SPD 95, STR 60, AGI 98, ACC 98, CTH 77, JMP 99, INJ 95, TGH 71
Until just a few minutes ago, I had GM Rodany taking a QB. I happened to check out the Lions 25 year old QB Joey Harrington. Harrington is just under a scrambler tendency with 63 SPD so that is a plus and he has decent AWR wuth 61, better than avg THP with 91 & progressable THA with 78. There is also a large, very large contract to deal with. He is getting paid $7.09M this season, $8.48M in 2004, $10.25M in 2005, $12.58M in 2006 and $15.59M in 2007. The current salary hit would be $12.5 if he were to be traded so I think Harrington stays in the Big D and is the Lions starting QB. I think the most obvious picks with QB being out of the question becomes WR’s Anquan Boldin & Andre Johnson or SS Troy Polamalu. While Johnson hold an advantage in age (22 vs 23), height (6’3” vs 6’1”), catch (93 vs 77) strength (71 vs 60), the lack of speed (89 vs 95) and acceleration (98 vs 92) makes Boldin just a tad more attractive than Johnson.
Pick 3: Pittsburgh Steelers & GM Wade Pearce
SS Troy Polamalu
College: USC, 23 years old, 5’10”
AWR 64, SPD 98, STR 75 AGI 89, ACC 88, 45 CTH, 94 TAK, INJ 81, TGH 78
I have said his name in each pick above and I am projecting him to be taken here in a fairly big shocker. The reasonable assumption is that GM Wade drafts a QB here since he gave up a nice haul to climb this far up. (Pick 1.15, next year’s 1st rd pick, WR Hines Ward & MLB Larry Foote for this pick at 1.3, next year’s 6th rd pick that was originally the Dallas Cowboys and WR Kelly Campbell.) I do not think Wade is able to resist this real life (another 4th wall break) Pittsburgh Steeler legend. Polamalu has the attributes to continue legend status here in the PTF. I will more than likely be wrong and GM Wade selects his franchise QB here but what fun would this mock be without some surprises?
Pick 4: Chicago Bears & GM Brent Lachapelle
QB Rex Grossman
College: Florida, 22 years old, 6’1”
AWR 60, THP 89 THA 86, INJ 91, TGH 93
Much like GM Wade and the Steelers, I believe GM Brent takes the former real life Chicago Bear (yet another 4th wall break!) here at pick 4. Grossman seems to have what it takes to be a staring QB right off the bat. While he can not be taken to training camp this year, he can start earning training camp progression at age 23, making him be on target for what could be a really sold career, attribute wise. GM Brent has a history of winning and I would expect that tradition to continue. Year 1 will have it’s rough patches due to having a rookie QB but if he is in fact drafted here, I would expect him to be the starter from day 1.
Pick 5: Dallas Cowboys & GM Apollo Starman Shapiro
WR Andre Johnson
College: Miami, 22 years old, 6’3”
AWR 69, SPD 89, STR 71, AGI 99, ACC 92, CTH 93, JMP 99, INJ 99, TGH 78
GM Apollo is in an amazing spot here and I am sure he knows it. Lots of talk has been about how GM Apollo and the Dallas Cowboys have to take a QB here but why? With QB’s going early it will allow, actually force a player like Andre Johnson (or Anquan Boldin or Troy Polamalu to slide down to this #5 overall spot. If for some reason Johnson is taken somewhere in the first 4 picks, I predict GM Apollo selets WR Boldin or SS Polamalu here. GM Apollo is simply too good to know to pass on one of these potential future PTF hall of famers. Earlier GM Apollo mentioned he has been involved in these leagues (yes, I know another 4th wall break) for 10 seasons and has been in 15 leagues. Let that sink in for a minute…. 15 leagues. GM Apollo knows what he is doing and this pick is going to end up being one of the best, maybe the best in the entire draft.
Pick 6: Arizona Cardinals & GM Will Cook
Byron Leftwich
College: Marshall, 21 years old, 6’5”
AWR 56, THP 86, THA 89, SPD 62, INJ 93, TGH 89
Had WR’s Anquan Boldin or Andre Johnson fallen, I believe GM Cook may have taken then here but since they did not fall, I think GM Cook is happier than a pig in slop with this pick. Leftwich has amazing size being 6’5” and 250# plus he is only 21 years old. While there looks to be other QB’s in this draft class with more powerful arms, Leftwich can begin taking advantage of training camp’s +1 THP as early as his age 22 PFT season. The PFT training camp process seems perfect for a player like Leftwich. There is a chance Leftwich skews up to a scrambler has he currently shows 62 SPD. If that were to occur, I still think he might be the pick but other QB’s such as Tony Romo, Dave Ragone, Gibran Hamdan and Brooks Bollinger could come in as possible picks.
Pick 7: Houston Texans & GM Anthony Cepparulo
RB Larry Johnson
College: Penn State, 21 years old, 6’1”
AWR 52, SPD 89, STR 85, AGI 97, ACC 96, CAR 86, BTK 86, INJ 87, TGH 88
I believe current Houston Texan QB David Carr is serviceable for the tie being. The 24 year old QB has 63 AWR, 88 THP and 82 THA. While these may not sound like starting QB numbers, keep in mind he is only 24 years old. I do not think a team has to have a stud QB to be succesful. Multiple average or evenless than average QB’s have won titles in the past. David Carr can hand off to the bell cow running back Larry Johnson all day long. Johnson has great size at 6’1” and 235#. While his strength can go down 10, it can also increase 10 too. Imagine what Johnson would look like with an increase of +10 to his 85 STR. Really…. Think about that for a second. A RB with 90+ STR, 90+ SPD and nearly 99 in AGI and ACC! The more I think of the possibilities with Johnson, the more I question how he slips to the 7th pick. The skew could work against him but the way I see it, is even if he gets the worse results possible, he will be a strong RB with amazing AGI and ACC who will enter the league at or near 90’s in CAR and TAK. If he lacks anything in SPD, he can begin early that back at +1 each training camp starting next season when he is just 22 years old. I see no holes with this pick. Again, even if he receives the worsr skew possible and SPD goes down to 84 and STR goes down to 75, those are still starting RB’s numbers when combined with AGI no less than 92 and ACC no less than 91. Let’s also face it, he just is not going to receive -10 in STR AND -5’s in SPD, AGI and ACC. I am going to hate to go up against this RB. He will be a PFT pro bowler from the start.
Pick 8: Jacksonville Jaguars & GM Garth Pearce
QB Tony Romo
College: Eastern Illinois, 21 years old, 6’2”
AWR 55, THP 95, THA 76, SPD 53, 99 INJ, 95 TGH
I am a bit embarrassed to say but at first Romo flew under my radar. I then began to hear other GM’s mention him and his elite THP. Undeniable pocket or balanced tendency and currently 99 INJ rating. I believe the Jags and GM Garth will be looking for a QB here and perhaps Romo is not the one who initially jumps out at them, I think they will soon realize Romo has a huge advantage since he will not be a scrambler and will have great throw power. GM Garth and I had initial back and forth about sending veteran QB Steve McNair to the Jags but in the end I wanted a bit more than what GM Garth wanted to send. By taking Romo here and with some training camp grooming starting next season he will have found his franchise QB without having to trade for it.
Pick 9: Carolina Panthers & GM TBD (League commissioners will be drafting)
CB Terence Newman
College: Kansas State, 22 years old, 5’10”
AWR 62, SPD 97, STR 65, AGI 92, ACC 97, CTH 72, JMP 89, INJ 81, TGH 79
It looks like the new “kidd” on the block (potential GM Leo Kidd) did not have “The Right Stuff” and wasn’t able to continue “Hanging Tough” (come on, you early 1990’s guys, you know you were closet New Kids on the Block fans) so the PFT commissioners team will be taking over this pick. While the team needs a QB, I think most other QB’s who have the attributes to be taken here will be scramblers. I might be wrong but I think before the commissioners draft a scrambler QB they select whom they believe to be the best CB in the draft. Opinions will vary on just who is the best CB in the draft and I myself would most likely take CB Weathersby over Newman (6’1” vs 5’10”, 77 STR vs 65 & 99 AGI vs 92) but no one can argue that Newman has a very bright future in the PFT. He comes into the league (pre skew) with CTH of 72, that’s already great not to mention the nearly maxed out SPD and ACC. Newman should be the anchor of the Panthers secondary for years to come.
Pick 10: Baltimore Ravens & GM Norbert Huszti
QB Brooks Bollinger
College: Wisconsin, 23 years old, 6’1”
AWR 54, THP 96, THA 90, SPD 64
I do not think you will see GM Norbert drafting in the top 10 very often. I think this added with the fact that Ravens QB Jeff Blake is 33 years old and has attributes which include 75 AWR, 93 THP and 78 ACC you will see GM Norbert and the Ravens go QB here. I do not think the possible scrambler tendency worries GM Norbert too much as he cam earn Activity Points and purchase tendency change. He may also get lucky and end up being balanced. Bollinger would enter the league with less AWR than Jeff Blake but he would most likely have more throw power (96 vs 93) and definitely better throw accuracy (90 vs 7

. GM Norbert will know the QB play in the AFC North this season with multiple rookie QB’s so I think there is a chance QB Bollinger is the starter from the start.
Pick 11: Seattle Seahawks & GM Rock Hewko
SS Ken Hamlin
College: Arkansas, 23 years old, 6’2”
AWR 66, SPD 88, STR 74, AGI 94, ACC 95, CTH 64, JMP 99, TAK 70, INJ 78, TGH 76
I completely realize this pick may seem like it has come out of left field but I am basing it on GM Rock’s love for all things Seattle and real life Seahawk players (yup, that 4th wall breakage again) but take a look at Hamlin’s attributes; He is nearly a can not miss type of stud SS. He will enter the league with elite (for a SS) #’s in SPD, AGI, ACC & JMP plus 66 AWR as a rookie and 74 STR are also great attributes. So, the more I looked at this the more it seemed to be a great fit for more reasons than just Hamlin being a former Seahawk. He also has what the other stud SS in Troy Polamalu does not have, height (6’2”| vs 5’10”).
Pick 12: St Louis Rams & GM Justin Walstead
WR Kassim Osgood
College: San Diego State, 22 years old, 6’5”
AWR 56, SPD 86, STR 57, AGI 87, ACC 92, CTH 80, JMP 92, INJ 91, TGH 83
I am predicting a WR here since GM Justin just put high priced ($10.07M) 31 year old veteran Issac Bruce on the trade block. Osgood has probably the best size of any WR in this draft (6’5” & 220#). He seems like he would be provide a great WR1 & WR2 combo when matched up with the 6’0”, 97 SPD & 98 ACC Torry Holt. If GM Justin wanted to increase Osgood’s SPD, he could begin that process via training camp as early as next year when Osgood would be just 23 years old. I think choosing a WR here would be a smart, sensible move and Osgood literally stands out at 6’5” and 220#. The Rams could also go CB here but with Bruce being on the block I have predicted this to be a WR and you might as well go with the big one!
Pick 13: Washington Redskins & GM Scotty Gardiner
RG Kris Dielman
College: Indiana, 21 years old, 6’4”
AWR 62, SPD 74, STR 90, AGI 64, ACC 69, PBK 96, RBK 90
When I was reviewing Scotty’s roster I saw that they had a need at RG. I saw Dielman as what I considered to clearly be the best OG in the draft class so it was a natural fit. Dielman has great size, good athleticism & elite blocking skills. There is not too much to say about this pick other than it seems to be a perfet match. Many will probably say trhe 14th overall pick is too early to take a OG but I would respond with the fact this does not seem to be just any OG, it is a player who will be performing at a pro bowl level for at least a decade. It is also an extremely safe pick. There is no way Dielman is any kind of bust.
Pick 14: Miami Dolphins & GM Felie Santos
RB Willis McGahee
College: Miami, 23 years old, 6’0”
AWR 58, SPD 86, STR 87, AGI 90, ACC 96, CAR 93, BTK 86, INJ 79, TGH 77
I think McGahee is going to be an every down back stud here in the PFT. The only knock on him vs Larry Johnson is that he is 2 years old than Johnson at 23. Excatlly like Johnson, McGahee could see a max reduction skew in SPD and STR and still be a very good RB. He is in the same boat as Johnson in the fact he could come into the league with 90+ STR. That is just mind blowing. Combine the fact that he has 90 AGI and 98 ACC to that is enough to celebrate but now combine an amazing 93 CAR and 86 BTK and you have an all pro RB for the next 10 years. There is nothing not to love about McGahee. Enjoy staying in the sunshine state Mr. McGahee, you are staying in the same city even!
Pick 15: Minnesota Vikings & GM Justin Herr
TE Dallas Clark
College: Iowa, 22 years old, 6’3”
AWR 64, SPD 90, STR 77, AGI 82, ACC 69, CTH 84, JMP 83, PBK 63, RBK 65
I may be way off on this one but looking at GM Justin’s roster taking the best looking TE makes sense to me. Risking drafting a 90 SPD TE is huge since SPD has a -/+ 10 skew but I would be assuming GM Justin would have invested a private workout on Clark and the result would have been an impressive # in SPD. Clark’s ACC is worrisome but again if his SPD comes out near or even above 90 that will be enough to overcome any ACC challenges. Matching the most unique SPD #’s from a TE in the league with QB Cullpepper and WR Randy Moss could be deadly. It sort of reminds me of the success I had with George Kittle in the SFL. I consider taking an early pick on TE Kittle as one of the best moves I ever did.
Pick 16: Kansas City Chiefs & Olivier Ratajczak
DT Anthony Adams
College: Penn State, 23 years old, 6’0”
AWR 54, SPD 79, STR 94, AGI 62, ACC 72, TAK 75, INJ 87, TGH 84
I looked at GM Ollie’s Kansas City Chiefs and noticed they needed a DT. I believe even at just 6’0” Adams is the best DT in the class. He has great SPD and STR, can tackle and has decent acceleration. In other words, he checks every box as it relates to a DT. He can come in and start right off the bat and will gain quite a bit of progression by doing so. Those progression points can be pumped into AWR since his TAK is already 75 or can go to TAK and increase it even more. I think this is an easy pick for GM Ollie and the Chiefs front office to make.
Pick 17: New Orleans Saints & GM Neal Wintermute
DT Aubraylo Franklin
College: Tennessee, 22 years old, 6’1”
AWR 61, SPD 78, STR 89, AGI 58, ACC 67, TAK 68, INJ 73, TGH 81
I had trouble deciding on who to mock here. After reviewing GM Wintermute’s New Orleans Saints roster I decided that they may go DT here with the 17th overall pick. It might not be a popular choice and I get that. It is just what I thought made sense. Franklin is very comparable to Anthony Adams who was taken one spot earlier. He is fast and has good size which I think will allow GM Wintermute to groom him into a special player. I would expect Franklin to start right away. I am assuming GM Wintermute will be going with a standard 43 defense. If he goes with a 34 defense this could be a different pick.
Pick 18: Miami Dolphins & GM Felie Santos
SS Hanik Milligan
College: Houston, 23 years old, 6’3”
AWR 64, SPD 87, STR 78, AGI 94, ACC 93, CTH 62, JMP 99, INJ 93, TGH 70
As I looked at GM Santos Miami Dolphins roster this time, I =noticed they needed a SS. It just so happens that there is a great one still on the board! Milligan has great height in 6’3” but still boats 87 SPD in addition to elite AGI in 94, ACC in 93, JMP in 99 plus has 78 STR and 77 TAK.I think this is another easy decision. I see Milligan as being put in as the starting SS right away. I really think Milligan’s 6’3” frame is going to set himself out from other SS’s in the PTF.
Pick 19: New England Patriots & GM Rob Stanley
CB Dennis Weathersby
CollegeL Oregon State, 22 year old, 6’1”
AWR 49, SPD 94, STR 77, AGI 99, ACC 99, CTH 50, JMP 98, TAK 56, INJ 70, TGH 92
I reviewed GM Stanley’s New England Patriots and believe he could be looking to add a CB here with the 19th overall pick. There are still some very good CB’s left. I have mocked Dennis Weathersby here. I really like him but I know some, in fact probably many will be scared away by his low AWR. If you take away the sub 50 AWR you have an extremely strong (77 STR) CB who is 6’1” & 20o+ #’s with elite level SPD (94), AGI (99), ACC (9

& JMP (9

. The AWR progression will come as he should be an immediate starter plus he will obviously get rookie progression and will be eligible for training camp starting next season. I think Weathersby matches up very well in New England.
Pick 20: Denver Broncos & GM Anthony Fernandez
OT Jordan Gross
College: Utah, 21 years old, 6’4”
AWR 62, SPD 59, STR 92, AGI 65, ACC 76, PBK 82, RBK 94
I completely realize that there is almost no way Gross falls this far. If he does GM AF is going to be dancing a jig. GM AF has done a killer job with the Denver Broncos this far as he has completely re-imaged the team from where it was when he took over. He was able to splurge in free agency and will have the Broncos in competition immediately. If Gross is not available here I could see GM AF take another OT perhaps, Margues Ogden, Makoa Freitas, Jordan Black, Duston Rykert or Jon Stinchcomb.
Pick 21: Cleveland Browns & GM Bill Ryan
CB Julian Battle
College: Tennessee, 23 years old, 6’2”
AWR 56, SPD 90, STR 53, AGI 74, ACC 93, JMP 85, TAK 65, INJ 75, TGH 77
As I looked at GM Ryan’s Cleveland Browns, I saw where they were short on CB’s. I believe drafting the 6’2” Julian Battle here would be a great choice. Battle has one glaring concern and that is his way below AGI of 74. I am hoping that increases with the skew. If it drops, it would most likely mean him dropping out of the 1st round of the draft. So while this is a risky pick, I think it also could be a high reward situaion as it will be possible to obtain a 6’2” CB with 90+ SPD and ACC with a post top 20 pick. GM Ryan could also go OLB or FS here as well.
Pick 22: New York Jets & GM Briston Redford
WR Brandon Lloytd
College: Illinois, 22 years old, 6’0”
AWR 58, SPD 93, STR 71, AGI 80, ACC 95, CTH 76, JMP 89,INJ 98,TGH 84
In reviewing GM Redford’s New York Jets, I believe WR could be a good fit for them here at #22. I was looking at Lloyd or Tyrone Calico but ended up going with the faster Lloyd.
Pick 23: New England Patriots & GM Rob Stanley
WR Tyrone Calico
College: Middle Tennessee State
AWR 58, SPD 87, STR 53, AGI 93, ACC 85, CTH 76, JMP 99, INJ 71, TGH 99
Well that did not last long. I was looking at WR Calico the previous pick and again here at 23. I think GM Stanley gives star QB Tom Brady a big (6’4” & 223#) target with this pick. An added bonus with Calico is his 99 JMP. Usually we do not see these big 6’4”. 220+ # WR’s have that kind of JMP.
Pick 24: Denver Broncos & GM Anthony Fernandez
CB Charles Tillman
College: University of Louisiana Lafayette
AWR 53, SPD 98, STR 68, AGI 85, ACC 89, CTH 55, JMP 83, TAK 63, INJ 87, TGH 85
I am just taking a guess at CB here for GM AF. There is a lot to like about Tillman as he is big (6’2”) and fast (98 SPD) and I think that outeights any concern with AWR (53) or AGI (85).
Pick 25: New York Giants & GM Romeo Mendez
QB Dave Ragone
College: Louisville, 22 years old, 6’3”
AWR 52, THP 94, THA 82, SPD 64
I looked at GM Ro’s New York Giants and felt like they might as well make their 1st PTF pick be their franchise QB. I believe they get a steal of a QB here at 25, even if it is not Ragone. It could very well be Chris Simms, Gibran Hamden or Kliff Klingsbury.
Pick 26: San Francisco 49’ers & GM Brady Tinnon
QB Chris Simms
College: Texas, 22 years old, 6’4”
AWR 56, THP, 86, THA 94, SPD 69
I looked at GM Tinnin’s San Fran 49’ers and saw 33 year old Jeff Garcia. Let’s do something about that and take Chris Simms here. Just as above with the Giants pick, this could also be QB’s Gibran Hamden or Kliff Klingsbury.
Pick 27: Tennessee Titans & GM Bryan Mellon
MLB Cie Grant
College: THE Ohio State
AWR 58, SPD 90, STR 84, AGI 83, ACC 85, TAK 85
It’s me, this pick is mine! I chose MLB here because, well I need one and I like SPD. It’s also damn near 4AM and I need to be up in 3 hours.
Pick 28: Tennessee Titans & GM Bryan Mellon
OLB Matt Wilhelm
College: THE Ohio State
AWR 44, SPD 88, STR 71, AGI 74, ACC 87, TAK 70
It’s me again and I need an OLB. I am picking Wilhelm purely due to SPD even though I hate the AWR and AGI. My hope is that the SPD and ACC would be enough to overcome the lack of AWR and AGI. Finger’s crossed!
Pick 29: Miami Dolphins & GM Felie Santos
OLB Victor Hobson
College: Michigan (yuck)
AWR 51, SPD 86, STR 66, AGI 81, ACC 86, TAK 84
I looked and saw where it would make sense for GM Santos to take an OLB here. I think Hobson might be better than th previously pick in OLD Wilhelm.
Pick 30: Dallas Cowboys & GM Apollo Starman Shapiro
I am predicting GM Apollo does NOT pick here but rather turns it into a future (2004) PTF 1st round pick. I believe GM Shapiro will find a GM who falls in love with someone they feel as if they must draft and end up trading their future 1st round pick for that player. I predict the rebuilding Cowboys end out on the much better side of the trade and turns the future 1st rounder into pure gold.
Pick 31: New York Giants & GM Romeo Mendez
CB Rashean Mathis
College: Beth Cookman (WTF is this place?)
AWR 48, SPD 91, STR 62, AGI 84, ACC 86, JMP 74, TAK 65
I thought it would make sense for GM Ro and the Giants to go CB here. Other available names at CB would be Nnamdi Asumugha, Sammy Davis, Drayton Florence, Asante Samuel and Marcus Trufant.
Pick 32: Tampa Bay Buccaneers & GM Ian Coyle
QB Gibran Hamden
College: Indiana, 22 years old, 6’4”
AWR 68, THP 94, THA 72, SPD 699
Hamden is a name who has been talked about quite a bit over the last couple days. Since GM Ian’s Tamps Bay Bucs have a 35 year old Rob Johnson at QB, I think chosing this rising star here at 1.31 makes sense.
Pick 33: Cincinnati Bengals & GM Phillip Mellon
MLB Antwan Peek
College: Cincinnati, 22 years old, 6’3”
AWR 64, SPD 87, STR 78, AGI 84, ACC 82, TAK 74
I decided to go to pick 33 as I am sure GM Phillip will be around to make it. The Bengals need a MLB and the hometown Peek seem to be an absolute perfect choice.
