I never do a winners and losers since I think every team improved even if I didn't agree with the pick it still fills a need. So these are my own personal preferences from the skews that I did see. Also some observations, this has to be a record for 7 QB's taken in a single round am I right? Only 3 OL total taken in round 1 in a league where we're desperate for help. Also kudos to all GM's (Minus Apolo and his munchies) making the picks, this league is top notch and that's mainly because of the passionate GM's in this league!
Also I'm sure some of you will disagree with these selections so who are some of your favorite picks?
Here are my picks:
1.5- S/CB/LB Troy Polamalu- USC 5'10" 207 lbs.
SKEW GIVEN:
97 SPD 77 STR 67 AWR 92 AGI 92 ACC 45 CTH 89 JMP 96 TAK
Not only is Troy Polamalu 1 of my favorite Steelers players IRL but finally he equally as good now in the PTF altough I shouldn't be too excited because they are in our conference so for the moment we'll enjoy this from afar. He could play at CB/S/OLB/ILB and be a dominant pro bowler at any of them. The only 2 knocks are his 5'10" stature and his 45 CTH but other than that he's a game breaker, this is a solid start to the Cowboys future right out of the gate.
1.11- OLB E.J. Henderson- Maryland 6'1" 245 lbs.
SKEW GIVEN:
89 SPD 84 STR 54 AWR 90 AGI 97 ACC 55 CTH 77 TAK
This is another 1 of those players that can play ILB/OLB/S put him at DE if it's allowed or out of position and he'll thrive in any scenario. His size 6'1" 245 lbs. combined with the 84 STR allows him to to play in any scheme fit as well which is always a plus. His knock is obviously the AWR but it shouldn't be too detrimental especially if he's playing OLB and not moved inside right away. I see the finish product as a 95 SPD/ 96 AGI/ 99 ACC LB the likes of which we haven't seen before so what does this mean for the rest of the league? I guess we're about to find out.
1.13- CB Dennis Weathersby- Oregon State 6'1" 204 lbs.
SKEW GIVEN:
94 SPD 77 STR 51 AWR 91 AGI 94 ACC 50 CTH 96 JMP
I know Will is really going to hate this 1 and I'm sure many other GM's are saying "Weathersby over newman, you're an idiot" which is probably true but if I'm going to spend a top pick on a corner he needs to be 6' or taller no exceptions. All Weathersby has to wortk on is AWR and CTH he's set everywhere else. He'll close out at 99 SPD/ 97 AGI/ 99 ACC at 6'1" 204 lbs. and this is not to say that Newman won't be a stud also but if I'm picking top 10 I'd go with the size and the Titans got him a few picks outside top 10 which is even better value.
1.17- WR Kassim Osgood- San Diego State
SKEW GIVEN:
89 SPD 64 STR 55 AWR 84 AGI 92 ACC 78 CTH 90 JMP
It may be unfair to put Osgood up here right now because I'm more looking at the finished product but even so he's a 6'5" wrecking ball at WR and is about to get some tender loving care in training camp and progression throughout the season. which will equate to 95 SPD/ 90 AGI/ 98 ACC, at his size is going to be a menace and it sucks that he's in my conference.
1.27- TE Jason Witten- Tennessee
SKEW GIVEN:
84 SPD 68 STR 59 AWR 75 AGI 85 ACC 83 CTH 85 JMP
This has to be one of the best hidden gems to land at the bottom of round 1 in quite some time and he's not even close to a finished product. He has the potential to be 90 SPD/ 81 AGI/ 91 ACC which would put him in Tony Gonzalez territory, a sure fire HOFer but at 6'6". He's going to be an absolute menace trying to coverin the NFC East.
