Colts starts with the right foot winning vs a solid Saints team, Manning could’ve done better but rest of team delivered and it’s week 1, GM Gary Hickman has lot of time for figure it out. This is a playoffs team
Saints are 1 QB away of becoming one of the league top offenses, McAllister - Stallworth and Osgood will be a problem. In a division could be up for grab for anyone, they can be a surprise
Broncos defense had an heroic performance ruined by St.Pierre, the SB favorites starts season 0-1. CB Hamlin avoided an injury so that’s a win for Broncos. already mentioned they are SB favorites? Cause they’re my pick to win it all
Bills won by 20 and they had a solid game, but the real test and the key game for them is coming up at week 3 vs Patriots, first 2 games vs rookies can be good for team morale but also complicate GM Collins work as is harder to figure if team ready or not for pats
Steelers starts a new era with a win vs a divisional rival, Hamdam had a fantastic day for a rookie and the defense did what should, fantastic performance by new WR Drew Benett, game vs Bills at week 2 will be an excellent metric for Hamdam
Browns offensive stats were not bad considering they lost their QB #1 Couch with injury, rookie C Pontbriand had a very good game, right now the main concerns are at the defensive side of the ball, lets see how they adjust for week 2
Eagles starts season with a lose vs a SB quality team, this could’ve been a preview from a playoffs game, allowing 45 points is never good but is week 1 vs a premium team, Eagles has full control of the division and this lose shouldn’t mean anything for them, they likely saving the film for playoffs
Packers moment to win is now, I don’t think there’s a single team as focused as GB for win it all this season and they sent that message scoring 45 vs a top team. Favre time is expiring and he wants a ring. The rushing game was a good surprise
As Texans and Chiefs delivered first tie in league history they’ll be placed together. Carr had an insane performance, likely trying to ruin the plans to be replaced at next draft, while the Chiefs are the first team to lose their QB via Injury. That place rookie QB Byron Leftwich on the controls, I don’t think that was team plan but now it is. The biggest winner from this are Bengals that hold their 1st round pick
Titans had a solid team and GM Mellon as he’s used to added multiple veterans with immediate effect., they should be playoffs team and SB contenders, but window is small, McNair not getting younger and when invest on vets closing the doors to young players. The week 1 vs a complicated divisional rival is a good sign and they’re facing their main rivals at colts this week
The Jaguars are a good team in a very complicated division, If the Bills slow down I could see AFC South with 3 playoffs teams. Losing a close game vs Titans was a heartbreaker as this game was key thinking on being #2 of division. The team needs Fred Taylor prime.
Michael Vick had a fantastic pre-season, and he’s the face of scramblers, he couldn’t beat a very good team as Vikings. Falcons remain as favorites on the division. Michael Vick had an impressive performance with 71 rushing yards and 244 pass, the scramblers showing they can be great?
Vikings hero was their HB Ron Dayne with a career day, the team should be excited about that given how powerful their pass game is, with the best WR core of the league and a power cannon arm QB, adding a HB can do that makes them a top offense on the league
The Patriots did what everybody were expecting, win, and they convinced vs an underrated Jets team. Defense allowed only 10 points while offense scored 30. Patriots are a serious contender for win it all.
Jets got a complicated rival at week 1, so best thing to do is burn the tape and focus at week 2 matchup vs a Ravens team, this match could have relevance in wildcard spots, critical game coming up
Panthers are a project team, they’re in rebuild mode and faced a SB contender, result was expected, positive garbage time yardage for rookie QB
Rams did what must to do, a contender can’t lose this kind of game, and they dominated from start to end. The offense is very dangerous and they had an spectacular day on the defensive trenches, specially Little with 4 sacks.
New QB era starts on Miami with a lose and not good stats for Grossman, defense kept score close. Not the moment to panic, Redskins roster is stacked and just need a QB before being called contenders, Dolphins are in a rebuild and for week 2 face another in rebuild team at Cowboys, that’ll be a good reference point for Grossman
As said Redskins roster is stacked, so they should be winning all games vs young / in rebuild teams, they’re 1 or 2 steps behind contenders cause they lack a veteran QB, yet Bailey and friends can be a problem for any team,
The Lions that added 2 premium offensive players, couldn’t score more than 7 points, it’s week 1 but it seems Detroit is on the race for their future QB and that will be a danger for NFC
The Raiders won and played well, both sides of the ball, they’re smelling blood now as one of their div rivals just lost franchise QB with injury their 2 matchups vs San Diego will define it, for now Raiders must feel very optimistic as couldn’t have a better week 1
Bears season was define on draft when passed on QB, team won’t be competitive this season and aiming for future, klingbury had a good debut but then left injured for some weeks, now is Leaf era
Chargers did struggle more than should’ve but a win is a win, and now they’re on their driver seat for win division. Team has the talent and a very good GM, but need to find the way to involve talent as LT if want to compete at playoffs vs top teams.
The veteran buccs and recent SB champions, refuse to go down and let age to determine their future, they want to compete now and have alast dance. At some moment team will start a rebuild, they already drafted a QB, but for now looks like they’ll go all in, and have te players for compete in division, once in playoffs anything can happen
Seahawks lost some key players at FA and then added a stud via draft. Is a team likes flying low profile, and week 1 result ain’t good but easily can bounce back, they’ll be a danger for Rams in division and for other teams at wildcard. Both QB and HB did perform well, few teams can say that
Romo era starts in a positive note, with 2 TD, in a matchup vs another in rebuild team, couldn’t win but Giants move to next week with good sensations from their franchise QB
Sinister Six had a dream debut in Dallas, a team that is relying on Draft got immediate contributors at Polamalu, Simms, Cochram, Kennedy, Askew and Van Buren. Not every week will be like this but team so far leading the race for both ORPOY and ODPOY. Next week HB Bickerstaff joining the group and goal is to keep the inertia before facing the elite teams starting week 4
Ravens defense sent a message to division shutting down first overall pick Palmer, the team is on the driver seat on a division extremely hard to predict and that anyone can win. A divisional win at week 1 is gold for the team
Bengals only scored 7 points, but faced a good defense, and was just the first game in Palmer Career he’s meant to be successful and in the loses there’s lessons too, he can only improve.
Jake Plummet days as starter are done, surprisingly team benched him for young QB McCoy, Cardinals were competitive vs a 49ers team that soon will start a rebuild. Rookie Bacon had an Interception and 1st rounder OL disappeared, team needs him
49ers witnessing what can be Garcia Last Dance before moving on into a rookie QB, the team needs an MVP Garcia and Owens for compete, they stated the season with the right foot but only time will tell. Interesting decision not to start their 1st rounder Ty Warren
That concludes the recap of each team played during week 1.
Now adding some thoughts I had during week, this section probably will be influenced by games I watched or stats I saw, so expect a bit more Cowboys here, as Cowboys are America team and sponsor this article:
*DT Jimmy Kennedy is a diamond found in late 2nd, unique attributes, no other player on league with his size / speed combination and he had a debut with 3 sacks
*Packers stay as my pick for win it all, Favre had a “bad day” and still they beat one of best teams by double digit, that rushing attack offers a perfect balance.
*Only Gibran Hamdam and Chris Simms won as rookie QB, but I think there’s at least 5 QB that will become franchise QB
*I said Packers winning SB, but I haven’t said vs who. Many expect Colts and Manning, but I think Brady and Pats takes the division, Rob have been doing his job under radar and will deliver. After week 1 Brady = best QB, but McGahee was the key addition IMO
*We had a tie in week 1… what a way to start a league!
*Chiefs Injury potentially opening a new wildcard spot at AFC
*Michael Vick is a must watch, he killed it at pre-season with progression with his legs, but guess what? He got 71 yards avg more than 10 ypc and it’s just 1 game, if that trend continue he’s not only delivering unique stats, but also could have unique progression. Peter and Falcons can change how league thinks about scramblers? I truly do, and if that’s the case I would love them winning a SB at some point. Kudos Peter
*Lions will be a powerhouse team in some seasons, I really liking what Rodany doing with the team.
