2004 PTF Mock Draft

1.1 Houston Texans - QB Phillip Rivers

Trade rumors continue to swirl yet again with the top pick in the hands on the Texans, but if they stay put, Rivers is the best overall QB prospect. He’s well rounded at the age of 22, which means a lot in this QB class where the better talents are significantly older. David Carr looks like he’s on his way out of Texas after not even getting a true fair shot to begin with.

1.2 New York Giants - MLB Jonathan Vilma

What can’t Vilma do? He’s fast(89 SPD), strong (an eye-popping 91 STR), and is already maxed out with 99 TAK. He can be the best middle linebacker in a very short time, and will be among them in his rookie season even with his lowest 66 AWR. FS Sean Taylor another option here, but I think MLB is the more important position and they’re of equal potential. Future perennial All-Pro.

1.3 Detroit Lions - FS Sean Taylor

The potential is as great as the nostalgia and the physical tools match the skill set even at what many consider a non-premium position. Taylor is long(6’2”)and fast(94/99/94) with a good start in AWR (64). He’s everything a team would want in their free safety, and hopefully he’ll be somewhere adding some spiritual energy to his PTF likeness. The Lions have the safety position set for a decade with the Taylor/Nickey pair.

1.4 Dallas Cowboys - QB Eli Manning

Romo’s a Giant and Manning’s a Cowboy. What kind of alternative universe are we living in? Apolo gets Romeo back, and if the private workout pans out, which I think it will, it’d be worthy of the pick. He’s already pretty advanced in throwing accuracy (94 THA) and has a big arm to go with it(94 THP). If his awareness goes up, he may even go 1st overall despite the age. The NFC East is a weird place to be.

1.5 Cleveland Browns - WR Larry Fitzgerald

The Browns would love to grab their future QB here but what’s left are injury-prone talents. At QB, I don’t think they will risk going that route.
Although all picks are, this pick is more so dependent on the private workout. If Fitzgerald holds his current ratings, he could go here as he’s got desirable height (6’3”) to go along with great hands (88 CTH).

1.6 Arizona Cardinals - OG Sean Locklear

Can the Cards really go back-to-back 6th overall picks selecting an offensive guard? Especially one with a poor INJ rating? Well, how many do you know are absolute freaks like Locklear? Currently, none exist at his level and it’s not even close. 78 SPD, 97 STR, 86 AGI and the mind-blowing 99 ACC. Some may eliminate him this high solely on his poor blocking skills with 61/66 PBK/RBK and INJ rating(1, lol) but he’s got time to work that being only 21. I personally believe he still performs at a high level in his rookie season because he’s just that athletically gifted. I also believe I read somewhere that the front office thinks the INJ rating doesn’t matter as much as we’d like to think but also how often to OL get injured anyway? An eventual move to RT should be in the books for such a freak of nature, the freakiest of all prospects in all leagues that I can recall. Somewhere, Seattle’s GM is Rock-hard.

1.7 Cincinnati Bengals - WR Ernest Wilford

99/99/99 SPD/AGI/ACC at 6’4”, 235lbs will have you thinking he’s the TEMU Megatron with 51 CTH. This combination is hard to pass up even if his INJ rating looks like a mistake(Cool. While he’s healthy and on the field, only he can stop himself—whether it’s the early drops or the injury bug. He’s a boom or bust player that would go a long way in helping last year’s #1 overall pick Carson Palmer live up to his potential when he’s on the field.

1.8 Denver Broncos - WR Reggie Williams

The Broncos need someone to pair with Ashley Lelie(his name definitely fits modern times better) and judging by previous drafts, he looks like the type of player the organization would invest in long term. Newly acquired QB Chris Simms, who was the QB in the Tank Gate fiasco, would be pleased with not only the dedicated playing time but also with this young WR duo.

1.9 Washington Redskins - WR Roy Williams

The run on big wide receivers continues. The Skins are bereft of talent on the offensive side of the ball, and while they would like to snag a QB, Big Ben has a little arm and already 25 years old. It appears, pre private workout, that no one else is worthy of a selection this high so they’ll continue to wait for the right one. In the meantime, Williams looks like a pretty good option for whoever will man the QB position in the future and could be among the elite in a few seasons.

1.10 Miami Dolphins - WR Michael Clayton

Yeah, another wide receiver. Sophomore QB Rex Grossman looks like he played below expectations with his subpar year but I think it was more of a lack of tools than anything else. Clayton gives them another tall receiving option (6’3”) that is a bit more forgiving for younger QBs and he has plus speed (93) with a decent skills base to build upon. There are other positions they could attack but I believe they will attempt to surround their signal caller with as much talent as possible.

1.11 Atlanta Falcons - OT Tyson Clabo

The Falcons front office goes BPA with this pick as Clabo is only 21, has good mobility, very good awareness (64), and great pass blocking skills to help protect the scrambling Vick (92 PBK) plus above average run blocking (85 RBK). With the time he has to grow, he will be a top notch tackle within a few seasons.

1.12 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - SS Bob Sanders

Yes, he’s a tiny guy (5’8”). But he’s also very fast with 92 SPD, 94 AGI, 94 ACC and hard-hitting (84 TAK). His awareness is good enough to start as well at 61. The Bucs have future Hall of Famer John Lynch hitting free agency and they will not likely pursue him as his speed has dipped below 80. Sanders has the upside to join him in Canton though.

1.13 Pittsburgh Steelers - WR Bernard Berrian

Steelers just dealt WR Antwaan Randall El to Arizona after giving up Plaxico Burress in a deal to the Chargers the year prior, leaving them very thin at the position. I expect them to address it with multiple picks this draft if they want last year’s 3rd overall pick, QB Gilbran Hamdan, to continue progressing that nice awareness he has for his age. Berrian has top shelf speed (99) that compliments his QBs big arm. Being 22 years old gives him time to grow (he has raw hands at 57 CTH) with the 23-year-old Hamdan.

1.14 New York Jets - CB DeAngelo Hall

Hall has very good athleticism with the potential to be elite if his speed skews up in a private workout from 92. Currently, he has 99 AGI and 99 ACC that seems to be in accordance to his real-life counterpart during his playing days. What’s even more tempting is he’s just 21, giving him plenty of time to get his awareness up, which is has been typically difficult for cornerbacks. The Jets are currently super thin at the position, with no apparent long term solutions for the starting positions. Hall would make a lot of sense here.

1.15 San Diego Chargers - FS Will Allen

Allen is very well rounded at 6’1” even if you can’t rely on him to catch annnounced underhanded throws (26 CTH). If he private workout pans out he can improve on the already solid (88 SPD, 99 AGI, 86 ACC) athleticism. One can look at his AGI as a hint the rest is better than currently advertised, and that would make him worthy of the 15th overall pick. A Whale’s Vagina currently only has 2003 free agent signing Kato Serwanga on the roster at free safety, so it’s most definitely a huge need.
