It’s just a Flesh Wound- GM Mellon’ Review of Injury Concerns With Rookies of the 2004 Draft Class
I am not going to make this a very deep review but I thought I would do a position by position review of incoming rookies of the 2004 draft class who have serious potential but also carry injury concerns.
QB’s
Craig Krenzel- 6’4”, 22 years old, 228#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2750&skin=lp
To be completely truthful Krenzel is someone I really liked coming into the draft until I saw his INJ and TGH He was only 22 years old, had great AWR and size plus let’s face it, comging from THE Ohio State University is worth it’s weight in gold. To go along with the 71 AWR, 90 THA and admittedly low THO of 81 in INJ of 4 and TGH of 5. Krenzel is not worth drafting in my book due to the INJ and TGH ratings.
JP Losman- 6’2”, 22 years old, 217#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2768&skin=lp
While not a stud prospect, Losman comes in with 63 AWR, 85 THP and 84 THA, not too bad for a rookied, especially given our new training camp. With an INJ of 32 even withth the TGH of 88, Losman is no longer worth taking a shot on, according to me.
Luke McCown- 6’4”, 23 years old, 217#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2777&skin=lp
McCown’s great AWR of 72 and good THA of 86 (less than avg THP of 82 though) are wasted with 0 INJ and 0 TGH.
John Navarre- 6’6”, 23 years old, 243#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2785&skin=lp
Navare has Dante Culpepper like size but with an INJ rating of 37 that is where the comparisons to an NFL starter stop even with 55 AWR, 88 THP and 85 THA.
Ben Roethlisberger- 6’5”, 25 years old, 240#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2811&skin=lp
I have no doubt that someone will draft Big Ben way too early. Not only does he have way too low of INJ at 38 but his age of 25 nullifies what look to be very good attributes of 63 AWR, 87 THP and 96 THA. That is correct, I am saying even with 96 THA as a rookie, Big Ben would not make a list of 1st or 2nd round draftees to me.
Randall Secky- 6’1”, 22 years old, 194#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2827&skin=lp
Secky’s 6 INJ and 2 TGH completely out weight his 99 THP in my opinion and make him someone that I simply would not draft.
Jeff Smoker- 6’3”, 21 years old, 224#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2838&skin=lp
Smoker is another QB who comes into the league with very good size plus he is young at just 21 years old. His INJ of 3 and TGH of 6 make his THP of 95 and 80+ THA complete afterthoughts in my opinion.
RB’s
Cedric Cobbs- 6’1”, 23 years old, 225#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2674&skin=lp
Cobb’s INJ of 55 and TGH of 21 make the QB list above jealous however I do not want my franchinse RB having an INJ of just 55, not to mentioned the horrible 21 TGH rating. Even though Hobbs could be a 90, 90, 90 guy as a rookie, I doubt he makes my draft board to the INJ and TGH.
FB’s
I saw no real concerns.
WR’s- Here is where there are some
MAJOR concerns!
Bernard Berrian- 6’1”, 23 years old, 185#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2653&skin=lp
Here is a 99 SPD, 94 AGO, 96 ACC guy that, in my opinion should slip into at least the 2nd round due to INJ of 44 and TGH of 45 but most likely won’t. I think you’ll see Berrian be rafted very early, in the top 15. Since his INH and TGH are the 40’s I would have him on my draft board but again, I would not look at him until late in the 2nd round.
Drew carter- 6’3”, 24 years old, 200#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2666&skin=lp
It is a shame that another player from THE Ohio State University, in my opinion should slide down, way down due to injury. Carter has great size at 6’3” and avg SPD, AGI, ACC of 88, 86 87 but his INJ and TGH of 15 each, ruin any chance of being drafted by me.
Michael Jenkins- 6’4”, 23 years old, 214#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2731&skin=lp
WTF man? Who hates THE Ohio State University? A 6’4” WR with 93 SPD, 92 ACC & 97 JMP but with INJ of 21 and TGH of 20. I am not crying, you are crying. Okay, I am crying. Screw you draft creator and THE Ohio State hater!
Maurice Mann- 6’2”, 22 years old, 190#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2771&skin=lp
Maurice Mann as in “Mann you are going to get injured!”. Sure you have 96 SPD, 98 JMP and 99 ACC but you have 27 INJ and 22 TGH! Yuck!
Johnnie Morant- 6’4”, 24 years old, 224#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2783&skin=lp
Well at least this big tall fast WR is not from THE Ohio State university. He still sucks as far as injury risk goes though! 96 SPD, 96 AGI, 92 ACC & 92 JMP but INJ of 9 and TGH of 18. It is just too risky for me!
Ernest Wilford- 6’4”, 22 years old, 235#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2879&skin=lp
Whoa! A 6’4”, 22 year old WR who weighs 235? Damn! Oh yeah, he is also 99 SPD, 99 AGI, 99 ACC, 99 JMP! Can you say best WR ever? No, you can not because he has 8 INJ and 8 TGH. He will go early, for sure top 10, maybe top 5. I say that is still too much of a gamble but this is one player who I would probably even take a shot at if I were drafting early.
Rashaun Woods- 6’2”, 24 years old, 202#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2891&skin=lp
Woods is older, shorter, lighter and less athletic than Wilford but is still someone who will go very early in the draft. His SPD is awesome at 99, good AGI at 90 and great ACC at 96 but low INJ of 28 and TGH of 14. I would not take a chance on him until the 3rd round.
TE’s
Courtney Anderson- 6’6”, 23 years old, 270#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2643&skin=lp
Man, talk about great size! He could also go up to 93 SPD. With 9 INJ & 0 TGH, I want no part of him and this is coming from someone who needs a starting TE.
Erik Jensen- 6’4”, 23 years old, 255#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2732&skin=lp
As mentioned above, I need a TE. I might take a look at Jensen as his SPD could increase to 91, AGI could go to 99, ACC could also go to 99 & JMP could also go to 99 but his INJ of 40 and TGH of 46 are extremely concerning. I do not think I would consider him in rounds 1-3 but perhaps in round 4, depending on how his skew goes.
OT’s
Robert Gallery- 6’7”, 21 years old, 325#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2705&skin=lp
Gallery had very low SPD of 44 and STR of 81 but had great size and amazing blocking of 86 in both PB and RB but his INJ of 6 & TGH of 0 makes him undraftable to me.
Sean Bubin- 6’6”, 23 years old, 306#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2661&skin=lp
Bubin has 99 STR plus great AGI of 74 and ACC of 79. His INJ of 0 and TGH of 7 make him someone to avoid, in my opinion.
Kelly Butler- 6’5”, 24 years old, 312#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2662&skin=lp
Butler has 90 STR, 81 ACC and 84 PBK plus 83 RB. Those are some good #’s but the INJ of31 and TGH of 28 put those in too much jeopardy for me.
OG’s
Sean Locklear- 6’4”, 21 years old, 310#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2765&skin=lp
Well here he is; Locklear is perhaps the most interesting player in the draft! He his 300+# with 78 SPD that could go all the way up to 88, 97 STR, 86 AGI, 99 (yes 99) aCC, but horrible blocking skills of 61 PBK and 66 RBK and to top it off with 1 INJ and 3 TGH. Even though he is one hell of an athlete, he is not on my draft board for any round. He is too risky for me but yet will probably be a top 15 pick.
Stephen Peterman- 6’4”, 23 years old, 323#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2794&skin=lp
His SPD of 49 is concerning maybe as much as his INJ of 10 & TGH of 9. He has good blocking traits of 88 PBK and 82 RBK but the INJ and TGH combo scare me too much for him to be a consideration.
C’s
I saw no real concerns.
K’s
I saw no real concerns.
P’s
John Henderson- 5’10. 21 years old, 184#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2726&skin=lp
Henderson comes into the PTF with good AWR of 67 plus 90 KPW and 84 KAC. These attributes make for a decent rookie kicker however when his INJ of 0 and TGH of 0 are included he does not make my draft board, even if I needed a punter.
DE’s
I saw no real concerns.
DT’s
Craig Terrill- 6’3”, 22 years old, 296#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2852&skin=lp
Terrill has good size and great SPD of 71 for a DT. His STR of 92 and ACC of 74 are also good but his INJ of34 and TGH of 34 are each low enough to concern me. I would maybe take a shot on him but it would be in the late rounds.
OLB’s
Raheem Orr- 6’3”, 23 years old, 260#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2790&skin=lp
Orr has great size and amazing SPD of 92, great ACC of 84, good STR of 75 (bad TAK of 62) but extremely worrisome INJ of 12 and TGH of 1. Sadly he would not be part of my early draft plans. He would no doubt be worth a gamble late, if nothing ele to be a great special teams LB for kickoff returns.
Jim Maxwell- 6’4”, 24 years old, 240#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2774&skin=lp
Maxwell is another OLB who has amazing size and SPD combo as SPD comes in at 89, Maxwell is a much better tackler than Orr with a TAK rating of 79. Sadly he also has an INJ of just 3 and TGH of 16. He would not make my early draft day plans.
Gilbert Gardner- 6’1”, 24 years old, 228#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2707&skin=lp
Gilbert is another super fast OLB who comes into the league with 93 SPD and 92 ACC to go along with amazing 80 STR. He would be the kind of LB I would normally trade up into the early rounds for but with an INJ of 6 and TGH of 2 I will be staying away from him.
Jeremy Cain- 6’1”, 24 yearold old, 245#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2663&skin=lp
Cain has perfhaps the best SPD, STR, AGI, ACC combo in the LB class with 87, 82, 87 & 86. He has much better INJ than those LB’s above with 45 but that is still too low for me to take a shot. His TGH of 15 just adds to the risk.
MLB’s
Leon Joe- 6’1”, 24 years old, 235#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2733&skin=lp
Once you look at Joe and see the SPD of 83, STR of 81, ACC of 80 and TAK of 82 you realize he could be a pretty solid and very balanced MLB. Once the INJ of 14 and TGH of 12 are looked at though, you have to question if he would be on the field much. I would only take a chance on him in the late rounds of the draft.
CB’s
Greg Brooks- 5’11”, 22 years old, 182#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2659&skin=lp
On the surface, Brooks looks to be a can’t miss prospect with 97 SPD, 95 AGI, 99 ACC, 99 JMP and 76 STR. His INJ of 17 & TGH of 0 makes him someone you simply can not put your franchise at risk and draft early though! Proceed with caution!
Von Hutchins- 5’10”, 22 years old, 180#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2729&skin=lp
See above! Hutchins, like Brooks seems like a can’t miss sutd until you look at his INJ and TGH ratings. His 99 SPD, 97 AGI. 96 ACC and 85 STR, yes 86 STR are out of this world! His INJ of 6 and TGH of 12 though are just too damn risky to mess with! He is one of the few players that I would maybe take a chance on and draft in the top 10 but be afraid during every game that he will get hurt.
FS’s
Etric Pruitt- 6’0”, 23 years old, 196#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2802&skin=lp
Boy, Pruittt looks amazing before you look at this INJ and TGH ratings. SPD of 92, AGI of 90, ACC of 93 and JMP of 91 look delicious! The INJ of 13 and TGH of 51 bring him down quite a bit. He is someone who will go earlier than I would take him at. Pruitt could be an excellent player though.
SS’s
Rashad Washington- 6’2”, 22 years old, 210#
https://primetime-football.com/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2872&skin=lp
I will close this article up with a quick review of Washington who coud be another fantastic player but comes with risk. He has 89 SPD, 73 STR, 92 AGI, 87 ACC & 99 JMP. These are eliete strong safety attributes. His INJ of 16 and TGH of 13 though are troubling. Too troubling for me to invest an early pick on.
