PICKTEAMPLAYERANALYSIS
1.01
QB Alex SmithI think it’s very obvious that the Jets are going with a QB after they traded away QB Chad Pennington to the Houston Texans mid-season. The question is, which one goes first? Aaron Rodgers has the name, but pre-skew his AWR and THA are lower than Alex Smith and Derek Anderson. Derek Anderson at 93 THA is excellent for a rookie. I don’t love that he’s 24-years-old. I prefer AWR to THA, and Alex Smith is +6 AWR to Anderson’s +7 THA, Smith is also 22-years-old. The THP can be boosted via training camp. They all can, and should be, so they can survive the loss of THP when regression sets in. Alex Smith will have 1 more year at 85 THP or higher in his career in addition to being more pro ready from an AWR standpoint, so he’s the guy!
1.02
QB Derek AndersonLike the Jets, I think it’s obvious the Bears need a QB. Craig Krenzel, Kliff Kingsbury and Ryan Leaf are not the answers for Chicago, or any team for that matter. As I just dissected at the 1.1 pick, Anderson will play 1 fewer year in his career at or above 85 THP, even though he’s age 24. If training camp is applied to each QB until they’re age 30, he will be 98 THP at age 29 and will drop to 84 THP at age 35, his 14th season. We are splitting hairs when we talk about worrying about who plays 13 seasons compared to 14. His THA is excellent for a rookie, so all his progression points can go into AWR, as it should across the board at the position anyways. The slightest pause I have is the 84 INJ, that’s about as low as I’d go at the position. Injuries are random, but we did see during the 2004 season the INJ rating means something, so I could see a scenario where that scares them to Aaron Rodgers, not that someone needs that big of a push to move to the bigger name.
1.03
WR Braylon EdwardsUnlike the first two teams, the Falcons have a QB in Michael Vick. He has underperformed significantly in his two seasons thus far, throwing only 32 TDs in two seasons, with a completion percentage just over 50% and a cumulative QB Rating of 78.3. He’s still only 25-years-old and the attributes are there. A change from Scrambler to a Balanced or Pocket tendency could help him avoid moving into sacks and creating pressure that isn’t there, but having some weapons would help as well. I think the focus this off-season has to be on supporting Vick and improving the offense. GM Peter Fenger has reportedly receiving quite a bit of interest in Vick, but the message has consistently been that he’s unavailable. Figuring out who the first WR off the board is going to be tricky. I think Peter sees a 22-year-old rookie with 69 AWR and 88 CTH at 6’3” 92 SPD, 95 ACC and jumps at him. Vincent Jackson and Matt Jones will obviously garner a lot of attention. Jones is -22 AWR and -9 CTH so I don’t see him going first, but VJax could make a case. He’s -8 AWR, - 8 CTH, but 6’5” at 90 SPD, 96 ACC. I think it’s Edwards, but I could see how someone would be intrigued with Jackson.
1.04
WR Vincent JacksonLike the Falcons, the Chiefs seem to have their QB in Byron Leftwich. He’s really not performed well so far, at 46% completion percentage, 31 TDs to 29 INTs through 2 seasons and a 66.1 cumulative QB Rating. He can improve, obviously, but that division isn’t easy by any means. If he’s their guy, I think the Chiefs go and get him a target to hopefully help make life a little easier, and I would imagine that guy is Jackson. He’s 6’5”, 90 SPD, 61 AWR, 95 AGI, 96 ACC, 80 CTH. That’s great for a 22-year-old rookie, and for a team whose best weapon on the roster right now is Robert Ferguson.
1.05
QB Aaron RodgersI think this is the point where things get interesting as you don’t really know how the Saints are going to play this. I know they just spent 2.09 on Ben Roethlisberger last year, but he’s age 26 with 84 THP. If he gets Training Camp boosts each year until he’s no longer eligible, he’ll be maxed out at 88 as a 29-year-old, putting him at 84 THP by the age of 32. He’s got 6 years left, unless GM Neal Wintermute is content starting him at 84 THP (or even lower). That’s all a matter of personal preference, Neal may not care as he started 80 THP Luke McCown to start the year. I think Roethlisberger maxes out around 85 AWR by the time regression starts to set in, then it’s a struggle to keep up with the regression losses. He’s also an injury concern with a 37 INJ rating. Rodgers is 23-years-old, 63 AWR, 95 THP, 80 THA with 95 INJ and 99 TGH, so those concerns of being injured shouldn’t be a factor with Rodgers.
1.06
SS Antrel RolleThe Jets could go in a ton of different directions here. They traded off assets last year so there’s many areas of need. HB LaMont Jordan is set to become a free agent, but I don’t think this is a strong running back class. WR Matt Jones is an option here, I just don’t love him enough to be a top 6 pick. I was thinking CB here, but they traded for CB Derek Ross. While I think it was a an overpay for a completely average CB from an athletic standpoint, I don’t think it’s a super pressing need. At this point, go get the biggest stud available in the draft, and Rolle is that. 6’0”, 99 SPD, 66 STR, 65 AWR, 96 ACC. He is giving Sean Taylor and Troy Polamalu vibes, both guys taken in the top 5 in the past two drafts.
1.07
MLB Alfred FincherThe Dolphins are committed to the rebuild. Like the Jets, they could go in a few different directions here, but I think Fincher is a dawg. 22-years-old, 85 SPD, 82 STR, 60 AWR, 90 AGI, 92 ACC, 80 TAK. He can step in and be the starter over the regressing Dolphins legend Zach Thomas, who is 32-years-old, 76 SPD, with a $12.46m cap hit. They can significantly upgrade from an athleticism standpoint and shave off $9m in cap obligations. “Make the poster into a t-shirt, win, win, win.”
1.08
WR Matt JonesI think the Redskins are hoping a QB will fall to them here. I don’t know if Ramsey is the answer. He really struggled last year with a 43.87 completion percentage, 18 TDs to 27 INTs and a QB Rating of 51.8. HB Ladell Betts had a good season and it’s a weak class for backs, so he should be entrenched there. I know they were talking about moving LT Chris Samuels due to his cap hit, but they restructured him so he’s staying. I would actually flip him over to RT, that athleticism should definitely help! The OL is solid, they’ve got dudes in the secondary like Champ Bailey, Fred Smoot, and Hanik Milligan and linebackers like Jeremiah Trotter and LaVar Arrington. That’s nice! Their biggest hole is probably at LE, which is doesn’t line up with this class, so maybe newly acquired RE Mike Rucker flips over there. Aside from that, ROLB and WR are what stands out to me. They just need better QB play, the roster is SOLID. I’ve talked about Jones, he should be a stud, there’s just 2 other guys I think are better. Jones is 6’6”, 91 SPD, 47 AWR, 96 AGI, 94 ACC, 79 CTH. The AWR is a bit low, does that matter? We’ve seen low AWR WRs thrive, but can they do it with a young QB? If I’m GM Scott Gardiner, I’m entertaining a trade here with Jones and other studs on the board. See if someone gives you a crazy offer, not just a good one. If not, take Jones.
1.09
CB Mike HawkinsThe Giants OL is good, they drafted WR Reggie Williams 6th overall last year and I think they can get by with Tiki Barber for another year. TE Jeremy Shockey is a dawg. Their offensive woes fall at the QB. Tony Romo simply has been bad. Through two seasons he has a cumulative completion percentage of 43.97, 31 TDs to 48 INTs and a 53.9 QB Rating. He’s been sacked 95 TIMES! The OL has talent! This is a QB/scheme issue, they need to run the ball until Romo develops, or move on from him. I don’t love their DL, but the draft isn’t the answer there. Secondary and MLB are areas of need, along with another WR. I don’t think the answer for a young QB is to have two young WRs. FS & SS are also holes but I don’t love the prospects there. CB Will James is solid, I don’t particularly care for CB Will Allen. Hawkins is 6’1”, 95 SPD, 71 STR, 53 AWR, 94 AGI, 95 ACC, 90 JMP. Hard to beat that! The first CB off the board this late is a win for the Giants! Will Allen could move to the Nickel or be put on the trade block, a CB needy team would snatch him up.
1.10
CB Marlin JacksonThe Browns appeared to be moving on from QB Tim Couch. GM Bill Ryan spent time writing articles to earn enough APs to cut Couch without the cap penalty, but who is their answer? Some QBs have moved teams, it doesn’t sound like Cleveland has been in on any of them. The Browns need a ton of help, they could go pretty much any direction except DE. I don’t see a QB left that’s worth a top 10 pick. They could reach for a WR here, but who is throwing them the ball? They wisely took WR Larry Fitzgerald last year so it’s one of their strongest position groups despite not having much other complimentary talent there. I think at this point they need to go with the BPA, but in all reality one guy isn’t going to help them. They need to trade down, or trade out, AT A FAIR PRICE. Anyway, there’s dudes out there still, but to me it’s always QB/WR/CB/LE in that first tier of positions, so CB is going to be the focus here. Jackson is 22-years-old, 6’0”, 94 SPD, 51 AWR, 94 AGI, 94 ACC, 96 JMP. Very good, young prospect that can help them on the back end.
1.11
RT Adam TerryFresh off a Super Bowl win, you wouldn’t think there’s many holes and there’s not. Breck will move some guys around and create some holes, but he’s got a plan, or at least he leads us to believe he does! I think the Chargers could upgrade their OL, WR2, LOLB and FS. They’re in good shape! Taking the 4th WR off the board at 1.11 is too early, in my opinion. I don’t know how they’d feel about FS Jim Leonhard, some guys care about height, others don’t, I think Breck does, it is hard to pass on 96 SPD, 99 ACC at the position, though. There’s some LBs that I think could be in play, and the thought of the Chargers taking Merriman was very tempting, but Adam Terry falling this far seems crazy. He’s 6’8”, 335lbs, 79 SPD, 95 STR, 71 AGI, 82 ACC. Those are outrageous physical attributes. They have to develop Eli Manning and Terry would be a big boost from an athleticism standpoint, I don’t know if they could pass on him.
1.12
LT Michael RoosThe 49ers seem to be dedicated to developing QB J.P. Losman. At 23-years-old he’s at 71 AWR, so that’s good. The 30 INJ is a big red flag for me, but maybe he avoids being out for multiple weeks due to his 99 TGH. He was sacked 51 times, the same as Tony Romo, 2 less than Ben Roethlisberger and 3 less than Chris Simms. The difference is that Romo threw 513 passes, Roethlisberger 314 and Simms 449. Losman only attempted 257 passes. He was sacked on nearly 17% of his passes. No bueno! The key to developing a young QB is to rely on the run game and don’t ask him to do too much, in order to do that they’re going to need to emphasize building an OL and pounding the rock with HB Rudi Johnson. Roos is 6’7”, 313lbs, 63 SPD, 91 STR, 68 AWR, 67 AGI, 88 ACC, 95 PBK, 85 RBK. The guy can step in at RT on day 1 and start for 12 years. This is a no brainer at this spot. Regardless if he’s there, I think OL has to be the focus, there’s enough talented guys to set your sights on taking one of them at 1.12.
1.13
MLB Pat ThomasAs I outlined above, DL, MLB, S and another WR would be the spots I’m looking at for the Giants. I don’t love any Safeties in this spot, after Rolle of course and the DL class is not very strong. I think tis WR or MLB here, I don’t love two young WRs paired with a young QB who hasn’t played particularly well. GM Romeo Mendez could go in a few different directions, but I like Pat Thomas due to his pro readiness. He’s 22-years-old, 6’1”, 237lbs, 83 SPD, 74 STR, 76 AWR, 89 AGI, 84 ACC and 80 TAK. The 76 AWR and 80 TAK are what does it for me. Most of us over emphasize athleticism, but AWR matters, and if you don’t think it does look at some of the top defenses and their lack of athleticism. Thomas will be 85+ AWR by the end of year 2 and the dude flying around the field making plays for them for a decade.
1.14
HB Ronnie BrownBack-to-back picks is awesome for the Eagles, not having to split hairs if they like two guys, and if they don’t they can’t still get one and trade back. I would expect QB Gibran Hamdan to take a step forward next year, now that he’s 79 AWR, 98 THP and 77 THA, before Training Camp. Kerry Collins had an MVP caliber season and began the year at 81 AWR, 89 THP, 84 THA, so the AWR is within range to play well. The Eagles secondary is very good. They need to flip RE Derrick Burgess over to LE and then the only thing they’re really looking for is ROLB. They have weapons in the WR room, they could use some upgrades at OG, but I think their biggest hole is at HB. I don’t love the HB class, but if there’s one guy that’s more complete than the others its Ronnie Brown. He’s 6’0”, 223lbs, 92 SPD, 59 STR, 64 AWR, 98 AGI, 99 ACC, 73 CAR, 81 BTK. I don’t love the STR, but everything else is very good, and the AGI/ACC combo is fantastic. I think HB Brandon Jacobs and Eric Shelton could get some appeal with favorable skews, but Brown is a homerun threat.
1.15
RT Jammal BrownI had mentioned OL and ROLB were the other areas. Specifically, I said OG, but I think LT Tra Thomas’s days are winding down, he would probably be better served as a RG right now, which would cost the Eagles 25k AP points (they have 50k). Brown is 22-years-old, 6’6”, 317lbs, 61 SPD, 97 STR, 75 AWR, 52 AGI, 66 ACC, 92 PBK, 93 RBK. I love the AWR/PBK/RBK combo from a 22-year-old rookie. He’ll be in the mid-to-upper 80s for AWR by the end of his sophomore season. I know the Eagles just drafted RT Max Starks at 1.27 last year, and that’s fine, but I’d bump him to LT as Brown is more developed and will help the team and Gibran Hamdan.
1.16
C Richie IncognitoCorrect me if I’m wrong, but GM Phillip Mellon was an offensive lineman himself? If so, I’m sure he is naturally drawn to the OL and right now his OL isn’t great. I think the defense has a bunch of talent, there’s not much I can see that needs upgrading, FS and LOLB is probably all. I like Ochocinco and Johnnie Morant at WR, they seem to like HB Michael Bennett, and obviously set with QB Carson Palmer. OL is the way to go, and you can’t get much nastier than Incognito. He’s 21-years-old, an added bonus there! He’s 6’4”, 322lbs, 74 SPD, 98 STR, 64 AWR, 46 AGI, 73 ACC, 85 PBK, 86 RBK. He’s a day 1 starter and can kick over to Left Guard or Left Tackle if they wanted. The only knock on him is that AGI, that’s why I suggested the left side, but everything else is so damn good!
1.17
LG Logan MankinsThe Bears got their QB, now it’s time to protect him. I think there are a variety of different directions Chicago could go here, but the OL needs improvement and development during the rookie year is the easiest it’ll ever be, so protecting their franchise QB should be priority #1. Mankins isn’t a super athletic guy, but he’s just 21-years-old, which is a selling point. He’s 6’4”, 308lbs, 51 SPD, 93 STR, 57 AWR, 55 AGI, 55 ACC, 87 PBK, 89 RBK. The pro ready blocking skills is what stands out to me. He will get +3 STR through rookie and sophomore progression without having to apply Training Camp points, along with +1 SPD, +2 AGI, +2 ACC. He will be 52 SPD, 96 STR, 58 AGI, 58 ACC. He’s a guard so he doesn’t have to be crazy athletic. I expect him to get glossed over but whoever takes him will be happy they did.
1.18
QB Andrew WalterThe clock struck midnight and Carolina’s QB turned into a pumpkin, you heard it in my article all season. Billy Volek shocked everybody by his play through 10 weeks, but then he looked more like Ryan FitzTragic than FitzMagic. Despite his poor play, the team still went 3-4 through those final 7 games before getting embarrassed in the playoffs, but at least they made it! Volek was 9-38 for 76 yards and 4 INTs in that playoff game. He’s turned age 29 and there’s obviously no future there. With some decent QB play this team could do very well. There will be growing pains with a rookie QB, but at least there’s hope for progress down the road. Walter is just 22-years-old, sitting at 6’6”, 230lbs, with 55 AWR, 88 THP, 87 THA. The AWR is a tough starting point, but he could be cracking the 70s his 3rd season if all goes well. There aren’t a lot of QB options out there and the rest of this team is too talented to stink bad enough to get an early pick in the 2006 draft, so it’s time to go all-in on developing their future.
1.19
RT Daniel LoperThe Bears are back on the clock for the 3rd time this round and still working on building that OL. This time they come back with an OT in Daniel Loper. Like Mankins, Loper is just 21-years-old. He's 6’6”, 320lbs, 66 SPD, 94 STR, 48 AWR, 66 AGI, 74 ACC, 79 PBK, 80 RBK. The AWR is lower than I’d like, but everything else is really nice. There are a bunch of guys with much higher AWR, but many of them are lacking athleticism and/or strength and many of them have several warts. I think OL is the smart move, regardless if it’s Loper or someone else.
1.20
WR Dante RidgewayThe Seahawks were one of the hottest teams down the stretch and narrowly missed out on the playoffs. They could’ve made some noise in the post-season, too. This upcoming season they need to avoid that slow start and come out firing. One of the easier picks to mock is usually GM Rock Hewko, he’s one of those guys that’s targeting an athletic unicorn type. And that fits perfectly to their needs as I’m not impressed with any of their WRs outside of Koren Robinson. Dante Ridgeway is 22-years-old, 6’1”, 200lbs, 96 SPD, 63 STR, 57 AWR, 96 AGI, 90 ACC, 74 CTH, 93 JMP. I thought WR Craphonso Thorpe could be an option here, but liked Ridgeway’s +18 STR, +14 AWR, +8 CTH and +14 JMP. While he’s a burner, Ridgeway has the size and STR to be an asset blocking in the run game and would be the better #1 WR, leaving Robinson at #2 n on the depth chart and continue stretching the field.
1.21
CB Stanford RouttI think one of the biggest areas of need for Carolina is their CBs. They’ve got CB Duane Starks who has 17 INTs in the past 2 seasons, but he’s 31-years-old and sitting at 89 SPD with his 5’10” frame. He could probably get away with starting again due to his 91 AWR. It’s hard to argue with his production. Outside of Starks they don’t really have any talented guys you can be confident in as starters. There are a few different options here, I ultimately went with Routt who is 22-years-old, 6’1”, 195lbs, 93 SPD, 54 AWR, 90 AGI, 92 ACC, 60 CTH, 85 JMP. I was really leaning CB Carlos Rogers, I just liked the 65 AWR as a rookie, the 86 SPD scared me off, but I still think he’d be a good pick here. He would be 88 SPD after his rookie year with Training Camp, and could boost up to 95 SPD if he received TC points annually. He wouldn’t be a sexy pick, but I think he would be a good pick. Either way, I think the Panthers go CB here, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they skipped the QB at 1.18 and went CB there, either.
1.22
LOLB Lorenzo AlexanderQB Mark Burnell saved the Jaguars 2004 campaign. Rookie Matt Mauck was made of glass and the team was forced to put Brunell in, and were so good when they did. Now, they traded for Steve McNair, so Brunell regressing down to 80 THP doesn’t hurt them. Fred Taylor is still a good RB and won’t hit regression until next season. I don’t think this is the year to find his replacement. I don’t love the weapons for McNair, outside of WR Maurice Mann, but since they have a burner in Mann, I don’t think having a similar WR is what they need. A big, stronger guy, with athleticism, is what I would envision, and this feels too early to roll the dice on someone like WR Tab Perry. Maybe Troy Williamson if you don’t care about the height? I touched on Craphonso Thorpe, but he’s similar to Maurice Mann and I don’t think that type of guy would thrive at # 1 on the depth chart. So, we pivot to an OLB class that I thought was pretty intriguing but somehow none of them have been taken to this point. Lorenzo Alexander doesn’t have the name, but he looks super. He’s 23-years-old, 6’1”, 245lbs, 88 SPD, 75 STR, 64 AWR, 84 AGI, 86 ACC. What gives me pause is the 65 TAK, but Garth took ROLB Raheem Orr last year at 1.20, and he was 56 AWR, 66 TAK, so I don’t think it will bother him. They would have one of the best OLB duos in the league.
1.23
LOLB Shawn MerrimanThe Bills traded up with Philadelphia, moving up from 1.30. They aren’t targeting anyone in particular, as a lot has to go right to trade up ahead of the draft and hope your guy is there 23 picks later, but it was making sure to get a guy. Their defense has stunk the past 2 seasons, while they’ve had one of the best offenses in back-to-back seasons despite having different QBs. Safety is a big need, but it’s not a great class for them. DT is another, but that’s a similar situation. The draft class really isn’t matchup up with what the Bills need. They did just put MLB London Fletcher and LOLB Sedrick Hodge on the block, so it’s possible they’re looking at a LB. I’m not sure he would make it this far because he has the big name, he would need a good skew to go too early, I would think. He’s 22-years-old, 6’4”, 261lbs, 82 SPD, 76 STR, 64 AWR, 88 AGI, 84 ACC, 78 TAK. The athleticism isn’t as crazy as we’ve seen from LBs in the first round, but he’s got the big frame, and the name.
1.24
FS Jim LeonhardI don’t think there’s many holes to this team, LOLB Na’il Diggs was just traded, so they could go OLB here, but based on their most recent article, it looks like MLB Antwan Peek will be moving to LOLB. They played a 3-4 last year, they could be looking for a MLB2, or they could be switching to a 4-3. Regardless, when I look at the team, I see a 5’8” SS that was taken at 1.23 last year in Bob Sanders. While many GMs are fascinated with height, GM Anthony Fernandez does not appear to be, considering he also has CB Dre’ Bly at 5’9”. It’s only fitting that they snag Leonhard here, as he is also vertically challenged. Leonhard is 22-years-old, 5’8”, 188lbs, 96 SPD, 63 STR, 49 AWR, 87 AGI, 99 ACC, 93 JMP, 60 TAK. His only knock is his size, and that AWR is a little bit low, but you aren’t going to find guys with really nice AWR this late in the 1st Round. From an athletic standpoint you’d be hard-pressed to find a pair of safeties with more athleticism than these two.
1.25
LOLB Derrick JohnsonThe Ravens just traded MLB Ray Lewis and ROLB Peter Boulware to the Cardinals, surprising moves by GM Norbert Huszti, but the cap situation was taking its toll. The team ran a 3-4 last year, and LOLB Joe Odom is also on the block. SS, DT and WR are some other spots they could go. Johnson is 22-years-old, 6’3”, 245lbs, 82 SPD, 70 STR, 64 AWR, 94 AGI, 87 ACC and 79 TAK. That AGI/ACC combo is real nice, and a good skew to his speed could result in his draft stock shooting up! Even if it doesn’t, he has all the tools you’d want from an OLB and will help the franchise begin the new chapter without two of their biggest stars.
1.26
WR Craphonso ThorpeI’m perplexed by the QB situation unfolding in Pittsburgh. They gave up a ton of capital to draft Gibran Hamdan, only to give up on him after just 1 season and acquire McNabb. Now they’ve traded McNabb away, too. It appears as though Kyle Boller is their long-term solution, but if they were tired of Hamdan and/or McNabb, then watching Boller’s growing pains will be even more frustrating. I would assume they’re sticking with Boller (for now) and not going QB here. They only have 2 WRs on the roster right now, WR Drew Bennett is solid, but Amani Toomer is regressing. They need some speed in that position group and so they take a stab at Craphonso Thorpe. He’s 6’0”, 187lbs, 95 SPD, 43 AWR, 97 AGI, 97 ACC, 66 CTH, 79 JMP. It’s a risk, I don’t love the AWR, CTH or JMP. He could be their deep threat, but will Boller get it there? Will they even throw enough to utilize someone like Thorpe, since they just acquired LaDainian Tomlinson? I think they would prefer more vet options at WR but even after trading off some guys they’re still over the cap, so they may need to rely on a rookie.
1.27
RT Calvin ArmstrongThe Bucs becoming a legit team wasn’t a surprise after they acquired QB Drew Bledsoe from Buffalo, in a deal the Bills offered because there was so little interest in him. He responded by having another great season. I could see Tampa Bay looking for another WR to pair with Rashaun Woods, but I think their biggest glaring holes are LB and OL. I don’t know how they did it with their OL, but their LT is 77 STR, their LG is 75 STR and regressing, and their RT is 82 STR and also regressing. Those 3 players combined to only allow 11 sacks on combined for 184 pancakes. That’s more puzzling than the year DE Michael Haynes had with his attributes. MLB Shelton Quarles is 34-years-old and 74 SPD, 62 STR, 72 ACC while their LOLB Kendyll Pope is 75 SPD 78 ACC. I could see them going MLB, OLB or OL here, and this draft actually is decent in all three of those positions. I think OL is harder to find than LB, so I would imagine TB leans that direction here if they find someone they like. And to be honest, I have no idea what types of OL GM Ian Coyle likes, his guys have played pretty damn well with attributes that would never be considered a starter by me, so who knows! Anyways, Armstrong is 6’7”, 320lbs, 63 SPD, 94 STR, 50 AWR, 75 AGI, 77 ACC, 74 PBK, 77 RBK. His AWR and blocking are a bit low, but it’s difficult to find much better. But, for someone who doesn’t seem to care about a lot of the attributes many GMs do, Ian may have his pick of the litter.
1.28
CB Carlos RogersI mentioned Carlos Rogers at 1.21 and I think he falls a while because of that 86 SPD, but as I mentioned, that SPD can be improved, he’ll get +1 SPD after his rookie season and then he’s eligible for training camp. If he continues getting the camp points he’ll be in the 90s in no time, but even if he’s 88 SPD after 1 season, at 6’0” he can still be a productive CB. He has 65 AWR, 92 AGI, 91 ACC, 62 CTH, 81 JMP. I think this is good value at this point in the draft, and can be paired with CB Ahmad Carroll. It’s not ideal having a pair of young CBs as teams will throw on them for a while until they progress, but the Dolphins seem intent on going full on rebuild and not worrying about bringing vets in all that much. If GM Felipe Santos can survive long enough to develop their young players, they’ll have a really nice core group of players to build around.

CB Corey WebsterThe Jets traded for CB Derek Ross and drafted SS Antrell Rolle, now they add another youngster to the secondary in Webster. He’s 22-years-old, 6’0”, 200lbs, 91 SPD, 55 AWR, 89 AGI, 95 ACC, 63 CTH, 83 JMP. At this point of the draft, we aren’t going to find super athletic guys, unless they’re skewing up. Webster still has 95 ACC, which is excellent, and 55 AWR is actually tied for 10th best in a class of 29 CBs. He’s going to take some time to develop, but it’s a rebuild in New York so they’re going to be patient. Having 3 young guys in the secondary is risky as teams are going to gash them through the air, but I think you take the guys you need and have the appropriate value.

ROLB Brady PoppingaI mentioned the Eagles needing an ROLB earlier, but they went back-to-back with OL, and for good reason. Poppinga is solid and probably should’ve been taken by now, but that 62 TAK is a bit scary for me. He’s 21-years-old, 6’3”, 252lbs, 85 SPD, 73 STR, 58 AWR, 81 AGI, 85 ACC. The physical attributes are there, he’s just a raw product, but I think this is good value late in the 1st round. Being only 21-years-old is also a nice added bonus.

WR Troy WilliamsonOne thing to consider is, how are the Jets going to keep all these guys? Four 1sts, two 2nds, two 3rds, you can restructure 2 per year (with the purchase of one), resign one and ME one, so 4 of these guys likely won’t be on the team by the end of their rookie contracts. I guess that’s a problem to figure out in 3 seasons. The Jets traded for WR Eric Moulds to provide a veteran presence for their 1st overall pick Alex Smith, but they shouldn’t be done yet. They don’t have a ton of talent in that room. Williamson is 22-years-old, 6’1”, 203lbs, 93 SPD, 46 AWR, 94 AGI, 97 ACC, 65 CTH, 99 JMP. That AGI/ACC combo is nice, and the JMP at 99 is perfect, obviously. He’s a bit raw at 46 AWR and 65 CTH, there’s some risk there with a young QB, but they need someone to stretch the field and give them some big plays, I don’t see anyone on the roster that can do that, and anybody with speed that was on the block is gone, or they were primarily kick returners.

RG Chris KemoeatuThe Vikings felt like the consensus best team in the league last year, even though they didn’t make it to the Super Bowl. If you look at their team now, you’d wonder how! They’re bare, no LBs and not much depth. QB Daunte Culpepper is gone as they are going to finish the job with Brooks Bollinger that neither the Panthers nor Titans wanted to. Now that they’ve got a young QB to develop, they will likely lean into the ground game more, but it’s hard to do so when they’re backs were as productive as they were, combining for 2,537 yards and 21 TDs. To get production like that they’ll need good OL play, and right now they don’t have a LG. As I mentioned before, I think finding LBs is a bit easier than OL, so I think they go OL here and hope their DL and secondary can mask any deficiencies they have with their LB group. Chris Kemoeauto is 6’3”, 344lbs! What a beast! He’s 53 SPD, 99 STR, 48 AWR, 55 AGI, 74 ACC, 75 PBK, 81 RBK. His AWR and PBK aren’t great, but that’s perfect for a guy filling in for the hole at LG and facing each team’s 2nd best DT (for the most part). He obviously can’t get any stronger, but he will be 54 SPD, 99 STR, 57 AGI, 76 ACC after 2 seasons, and that’s not including any Training Camp boosts. He’s a nice find to plug in on a veteran OL.
