I think I’ll be doing a version 2 soon as I try to keep up w all the recent deals
| PICK | TEAM | PLAYER | ANALYSIS |
| |
| 1.17 | | CB Stanford Route | 28 year old current starter Jerry Azumah is holding out thus far, looking for a new deal. On the other side, former second round pick Asante Samuel grabbed 6 INTs last season but I don’t view him as a starter, either. Route will need a couple of seasons of experience, but he’s worth the wait at 6’1”, 93 SPD 90 AGI 92 ACC. Toss the 22 year old into a couple of training camps and you’ve got a very good corner.
| 1.18 | | CB Carlos Rogers | I guess I’m hoping he’s got at least +1 SPD to add to the sad 86, but either way, Rogers has a safe floor. He’s got 65 AWR at 21 years old so if they invest some love and let him play early, he can be 90 SPD/80+AWR/95ACC after 3 seasons. I think that would make the 6’0 corner worthy of a mid-first round pick.
| 1.19 | | OLB Derrick Johnson | While they seem to have serviceable vets at both slots, Johnson would still be a significant upgrade.I’m thinking the 94 AGI might mean he skews up in SPD (83) or ACC(87) or both, and that translate to many plays in the backfield. Add in the 64 AWR and 79 TAK at 22 it’s a only a short time before he develops into one of the of better outside linebackers in the league.
| 1.20 | | OT Adam Terry | He’s not quite the freak Locklear is, but the 21-year old might be as close as it gets. At 6’8”, 335lbs with 79 SPD 95 STR 71 AGI 82 ACC, he can be a franchise tackle in short time. His 81/84 PBK/RBK to start is solid, but he needs to work on his awareness (50). I still don’t doubt he’d anchor either side for a long time.
| 1.21 | | OC Richie Incognito Jr | Incognito has the tools to become an All Pro and a pretty safe floor. His only concern would be his AGI at 46, but his 74SPD 98 STR and 73 ACC w 64 AWR in the 322lb package should be more than enough to overcome it. He’s a day 1 starter at 21 years old.
| 1.22 | | WR Tab Perry | I’m not sure how D’Wayne Bates did what he did against me, but if he can get going like that, Perry should have little issue developing into a stud with some time. He’s 6’3 with 93/92/93 SPD/AGI/ACC with 70 CTH but he needs some time to put that awareness (49).
| 1.23 | | LOLB Shawne Merriman | Merriman is pretty close to Johnson at least pre skew but he’s bigger at 6’4, 260+lbs. That’s an ideal 34 LB but he can fit any scheme, especially one sporting a converted 4th round cornerback in the rotation. He could be the first OLB taken.
| 1.24 | | FS Jim Leonhard | Diggs, Sanders and now Leonhard? Some would immediately eliminate him the 5’8” safety based on his lack of height but 96 SPD 99 ACC would be tempting even with the underwhelming 49 AWR and 60 TAK.
| 1.25 | | OLB DeMarcus Ware | Here’s another big linebacker in the draft, and Ware has the best SPD (86) of the 3 but let’s see if that holds up in a private workout. He could technically have 90+ SPD. His AGI/ACC will be disappointing though which is probably why he’s currently the 3rd linebacker selected. He’s 6’4” and 250lbs+ and just 22, so he’s got some room to grow.
| 1.26 | | WR Chase Lyman | Steelers have just one WR on the roster currently, 6’5” Drew Bennett. I think they grab another tall wideout here, and Lyman might be the guy. He’s 6’4” with a clear edge in SPD(89) than the rest of the big men left. They need to surround new QB Kyle Boller with talent early.
| 1.27 | | MLB Lofa Tatupu | Bucs currently have a 34-year old and a 7th round pick on the roster at MLB. The only knock on Tatupu would be height (6ft) but he’s good to great pretty much everywhere else. Currently at 82 SPD 82 STR 85 AGI 86 ACC and 80 TAK, he’s been one that the more I look into him, the more I like him. | 1.28 | | CB Marlin Jackson | Jackson is 6ft with 94s across SPD/AGI/ACC currently so he check most boxes. His AWR needs a lot of work (51) but he’s 22 and has some time to grow. He definitely needs some experience early and a training camp or two won’t hurt.
| 1.29 | | HB Ronnie Brown | Starting running back Anthony Thomas has been clearly subpar for two seasons, averaging well below 4 yards per carry. Brown would instantly upgrade the position with his 92 SPD/98 AGI/99 ACC/81 BTK/64AWR at 223lbs. That’s a pretty good base for some training camp work to end up a stud.
| 1.30 | | OLB Brady Poppinga | Poppinga is overshadowed by the bigger names at OLB in this draft, but he has pretty good potential as well. With a lucky skew he could have 90/90 SPD/ACC but that probably means he goes way before this, so maybe it’s somewhere in the middle. He’s 6’3” 250lbs and can fit any scheme.
| 1.31 | | CB Travis Daniels | The 22 year old Daniels is 6’1” with 95 SPD. His ACC (87) will be at least 90 by his 3rd season, and he should get playing time necessary to improve his AWR (52) on the rebuilding Jets defense.
| 1.32 | | CB Adam Jones | Little to no chance Apolo drafts here but if he does, it’ll be some sneaky good selection. Unless it’s some tall TE he clearly likes much more than I do, then I’ll wonder what I’m missing. Jones is slow pre skew, but his AWR could be over 70 at 21. If you’re a patient guy, he can end up a steal after 4-5 training camps.
