2005 PTF MOCK DRAFT V2.0

1.1- New York Jets- QB Derek Anderson- Oregon State (Previous pick: QB Alex Smith)
Oregon State phenom Derek Anderson at 6'6" 235 lbs. will come to NY to try and turn the franchise around. He comes with above average football IQ but top tier throwing power & throwing accuracy make him the #1 selection. Some GM's could be turned off by the 24 years of age but it's hard to deny the positives.

1.2- Chicago Bears- CB Antrel Rolle- Miami (Previous pick: QB Derek Anderson)
The Bears go out and snag the best player in this draft class in my opinion in Antrel Rolle. At 6'0" 206 lbs Rolle is a special player, he will most likely transition to CB and become a cornerstone for the Bears defense. He has elite athletic ability, elite closing speed, above average starting football IQ and elite jump ball skills.

1.3- Washington Redskins- WR Braylon Edwards- Michigan (Previous pick: QB Aaron Rodgers)
The Redskins will get a bonifide #1 WR for QB Patrick Ramsey to throw to. He is 6'3" 214 lbs., He is fast out of his breaks who can put the after burners on once in the open field. His hands and football IQ are top of this draft class. Edwards, Gardner and Northcutt will be a solid trio for defenses to try and stop.

1.4- San Diego Chargers- WR Vincent Jackson- Northern Colorado (Previous pick: WR Matt Jones)
Vincent Jackson is a beast at 6'5" 230 lbs., he can motor for a player of his size and once he catches the ball in open field you aren't catching him and if you do you aren't tackling him. His hands are plenty good, his football awareness is also top tier (for a rookie) and will have no problems fighting DB's for contested catches. Paired with Burress and Mohamed and this is a very scary group for QB Eli Manning to work with

1.5- New Orleans Saints- WR Matt Jones- Arkansas (Previous pick: CB/S Antrel Rolle)
Matt Jones towers over most corners being 6'6" 222 lbs, he's also quite athletic for a guy his size and should have no trouble at all taking it to the house once he gets into the open field. His hands are also above average but there was some concern about his football IQ at the next level but that can be worked on. Paired with Kassim Osgood will make a formidable duo.

1.6- New York Jets- CB Marlin Jackson- Michigan (Previous pick: WR Vincent Jackson)
The Jets grab their franchise QB at 1.1 and now shore up the secondary with 6'0" 196 lbs Jackson who has 99 speed/99 agility/99 acceleration potential right out of the gate. He'll have no problems breaking up 50/50 balls and an excellent start for the new GM in New Jersey.

1.7- Miami Dolphins- WR Dante Ridgeway- Ball State (Previous pick: OL Michael Roos)
Ridgeway would give the Dolphins the speed on the outside they desire since since Gabriel is more of a #1 possesion WR. Dante can take any catch he makes to the house on any given play. His hands are good enough, very good football awareness, will have no problems with contested catches plus doubles as a solid returner as well.

1.8- Atlanta Falcons- OT Michael Roos- Eastern Washington (Previous pick: WR Braylon Edwards)
Roos is a franchise OT that should anchor the Falcons OL for 10+ seasons. He stands at 6'7" 313 lbs., some of the quickest feet in this class to go along with the top tier strength able to hold his own with all the top DE talent in the PTF. His ability to not only get to the defenders quickly but close on them with power is next level. His run and pass blocking is almost at an elite level already.

1.9- New York Giants- ILB Alfred Fincher- UConn (Previous pick: ILB Alfred Fincher)
He's 6'1" 238 lbs. , excellent sideline to sideline mobility and his strength give him the ability to shed tackles with ease. He should be handle any defensive scheme fit, above average football IQ who should have no trouble dropping back into coverage taking on a TE or RB in flat. He isn't an elite tackler but he's definitely above average with plenty of room for improvement.

1.10- Cleveland Browns- CB Mike Hawkins- Oklahoma (Previous pick: CB Ron Bartell)
Hawkins would come in immediately and start opposite of McCutchen. Great size at 6'1" 185 lbs , He is a blazer which like Marlin has 99 speed, 99 agility and 99 acceleration potential. He has elite jump ball skills but will work on his ball hawking ability and tackling at the next level.

1.11- Kansas City Chiefs- WR Jerome Mathis- Hampton (Previous pick: OL Adam Terry)
Adding WR Mathis would definitely give the Chiefs some "outisde the box" thinking with Dante Hall on the outside along with Mathis that gives you big play ability on every play. Mathis is possibly the most explosive player in this class with a 99 speed/99 agility and 99 acceleration capability. His hands are very good and the football awareness is average plus he can be used as an elite returner on special teams. Just don't ask him to go and grab any 50/50 contested catches ever.

1.12- San Francisco 49ers- CB Stanford Routt - Houston (Previous pick: ILB Lofa Tatupu)
Routt adds another taller CB 6'1" 195 lbs. to pair with stud Mike Rumph. He has top end speed, elite closer on the ball, average ball hawk who will compete hard for 50/50 catches all game long. He should start immediately on the outside opposite of Rumph.

1.13- New York Giants- OL Adam Terry- Syracuse (Previous pick: S Justin Beriault)
Terry is a monsterous OL at 6'8" 335 lbs. It's amazing how nimble his feet are and how quickly he gets to defenders for a man of his staure. His strength is borderline elite able to move defenders backwards with ease and also boasts above average run and pass blocking which I'm sure Romo would approve of.

1.14- Baltimore Ravens- ILB Lofa Tatupu- USC (Previous pick: NT Anthony Bryant)
The Ravens move up to select the QB of the middle of the field in Tatupu who has great size, plenty athletic and his strength not only gives him the ability to shed tackles but also play in any scheme. He has average football IQ and an above average tackler that will pair with Scott in the 3-4.

1.15- Buffalo Bills- QB Alex Smith- Utah (Previous pick: N/A)
Could they? Would they? Should they? I don't do trades on my mock drafts but those QB needy teams for sure may be trying to trade up desperately but in this scenario the Bills land a QB of the future in Alex Smith. He comes with top tier football IQ (for the position), average throwing power and throwing accuracy but both can be worked on in training camp.

1.16- Cincinnati Bengals- CB Ron Bartell- Howard (Previous pick: Jerome Mathis)
I'm a big fan of the 6'1" 210 lbs. Bartell, not only does he have the ideal size you look for in a premier corner but he also can turn on the Jets at anytime, he can turn on the after-burner for while chasing the opposition or closing on the ball. He'll have no trouble fighting for jump passes at the PTF level. The Bengals are in a bit of a cap conundrum so they might have to cut ties with a player like Winfield making Bartell at the very least a starting NCB.

1.17- Chicago Bears- QB Aaron Rodgers- Cal (Previous pick: CB Marlin Jackson)
The Bears most likely would trade up to select their QB of the future if they decide to go another route at the top of the draft. Rodgers is a solid all around QB with average football awareness but makes up for that with his rocket launcher for an arm and average throwing accuracy both of which can be worked on in training camp.

1.18- Carolina Panthers- S/CB Brandon Browner- Oregon State (Previous pick: CB Mike Hawkins)
1st off would Will completely destroy a fellow Oregon State alum? I guess we'll find out. Browner may not skew well enough but is he salvageable enough to become a top tier safety in this league? If so would he go much higher than this pick? Browner is a beast at 6'4" 221 lbs and if he stayed as is he could still be a top tier corner in the league but even looking at a full skew down, with some work he can be a top safety for the Panthers. He has excellent hands and doubles as an elite kick/punt returner.

1.19- Oakland Raiders- QB Andrew Walter- Arizona State (Previous pick: S Kurt Campbell)
The question will be, does the Raiders GM think Walter is a franchise QB who can win them games or is he better suited going a different direction. There are many things I like about Walter like his 6'6" 230 lbs frame, also he can catch passes out of the backfield apparently (Look at that CTH lol). He has above average arm talent and accuracy if it stays the same or skews upward but his below average football IQ could be a problem. I think he's worth taking a gamble on if he doesn't skew downwards in THA/THP.

1.20- Seattle Seahawks- OT Jammal Brown- Oklahoma (Previous pick: S Jim Leonhard)
Brown may lack the pure athletic ability but makes up for it with top tier entangibles. He's 6'6" 317 lbs., his 97 strength is the best of this class and will have no problems pushing defenders backwards. His 75 awareness is alsoi top of the class to go along with his borderline elite run and pass blocking but falls a bit due to the average athleticism.

1.21- Carolina Panthers- OLB Shawne Merriman- Maryland (Previous pick: QB Andrew Walter)
Merriman is a linebacker who can play in any scheme fit, his speed and burst to the ball make him a sideline to sideline player. He's got excellent size, the strength to shed tackles and an average tackler. He can come in right away and start at either OLB position.

1.22- Jacksonville Jaguars- WR Roddy White- Notre Dame (Previous pick: WR Roddy White)
"Rowdy" Roddy White doesn't have the height that some GM's covet but he's a speed demon with a second gear that defenses must look out for. To go along with the athletic ability he has some of the best hands in this class. Above average football IQ and jump ball skills plus doubling as a returner make him the pick here for the Jags.

1.23- Buffalo Bills- OLB Derrick Johnson- Texas (Previous pick: N/A)
Johnson is one of those linebackers who can play in any scheme with his combo of pure athletic ability, closing speed to get to the runners or QB, enough strength to get through the tackles and then add above average tackler as well. He can come in and start day 1 at LOLB.

1.24- Denver Broncos- OLB Lorenzo Alexander- Cal (Previous pick: OLB Lorenzo Alexander)
His nickname is "Zo", another solid addition to that defense. He is an athletic freak, should shed tackles relatively easy plus drop back into coverage taking on those TE's and RB's.

1.25- Philadelphia Eagles-OL Daniel Loper- Texas Tech (Previous pick: DT Anthony Bryant)
Loper can play anywhere along the offensive line but there appears to be an immediate opening at RG. The 6'6" 320 lber has very quick feet for a big man. Not only does he have quick feet but will also drive defenders back with his pure power. He's an adequate run and pass blocker who will only get better throughout the season.

1.26- Pittsburgh Steelers- OLB Demarcus Ware- Troy State (Previous pick: OL Daniel Loper)
Ware is another one of these hybrid linebacker/defensive end types who got excellent size, average strength to shed tackles, plenty football awareness, who can drop back in coverage if need be and also a solid tackler. There appears to be an open competition at the position.

1.27- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- ILB Pat Thomas- NC State (Previous Pick: ILB Pat Thomas)
Thomas should come in right away and start for the Bucs. Another athleic LB with the ability to shed tackles, the smartest LB of the bunch when it comes to football IQ and an above average tackler right out of the gate.

1.28- Dallas Cowboys- CB Antonio Perkins- Oklahoma (Previous Pick: N/A)
By this time next season half of the Cowboys secondary will be at the social security office collecting their retirement checks. Perkins gives them some much needed youth at the position, elite speed, top end closing speed, a ball hawk who can tackle but will need to work on 50/50 contested catches at the PTF level.

1.29- Chicago Bears- RB Ronnie Brown- Auburn (Previous pick: WR Dante Ridgeway)
The Bears have had quite the draft landing their franchise QB, cornerback and now shore up that running back spot. Brown is a bruiser standing 6'0" tall and weighing 220 lbs., He has the speed to burn you and the acceleration to take it to the house on any given play with some of the best hands in this class and as a bonus he returns kocks and punts on special teams.

1.30- Denver Broncos- DE/DT Jonathan Babineaux- Iowa
This could be a stretch if the Broncos don't play the 3-4 but I'm pretty sure they do. Jonathan may be an undersized tweener at DT but as a 3-4 DE he could be dominant at 300 lbs, with that strength, speed to get to the opposition, the burst to close in on RB's or the QB and his tackling is above average also.

1.31- New York Jets- WR Larry Brackins- Penn (Previous pick: CB Karl Paymah)
He could go way before this pick being a 6'5" 218 lber, but if his attributes don't skew upwards or stay the same I could see him slipping a bit. Brackins has the size, the PTF frame, he can move for a guy his size but he does come with risks especially for a rebuilding team like the Jets being that his situational football awareness is pedestrian and his hands are below average along with his jump skills. You see alot of potential with Brackins but there is also alot of work to be done as well.

1.32- Dallas Cowboys- SS Jim Leonhard- Wisconsin (Previous pick: N/A)
Much like the pick before the Cowboys have a whole lot of leadership in the secondary but nobody to groom. Leonhard has off the charts athleticism, a bit underwsized for my liking but there is no denying the talent. He has pedestrian football awarenes but being surrounded by veterans could ease him into a role much easier while he hones his craft.
