Jets QB Alex Smith (1st Overall Pick)
First 7 Games: 75/188 (39.9%), 3 TDs & 17 INTS
Analysis: Alex Smith played poorly in the first half of the season, having one of the lowest QBRs of any QB. The Jets offense was terrible, outside of RB Thomas Jones. Some of Smith's troubles can be blamed on the Jets young playmakers struggling to get open.
Past 5 Games: 80/180 (44%), 11 TDs & 4 INTS
Analysis: Alex Smith's rookie season has taken a complete 180°, he's played as well as any rookie QB in his past 5 games. The Jets offense has gelled together with rookie WRs Jerome Mathis and Troy Williamson having some solid showings. The Jets offense has had multiple 30+ point showings and Smith has shown that the Jets future may be brighter than everyone expected.
Bears QB Aaron Rodgers (2nd Overall Pick)
First 7 Games: 101/198 (51%), 12 TDs & 6 INTs
Analysis: Aaron Rodgers got off to one of the hottest starts for rookie QBs, and is considered the favorite to win OROY. The Bears have the best record for any team with a rookie QB and Rodgers has helped the team not be as terrible as other teams with rookie QBs.
Past 6 Games: 97/198 (48.9%), 8 TDs & 10 INTs
Analysis: While he had a strong start to the season, Rodgers is still a rookie. He hasn't been terrible for a rookie, but his hot start has cooled down a bit. He should still be the favorite for OROY as he leads all rookie QBs in TDs, he will try to return to his early season form as he finishes out the season.
Panthers QB Andrew Walter (18th Overall Pick)
First 7 Games: 88/193 (45.6%), 10 TDs & 5 INTs
Analysis: Andrew Walter had a strong start to his season. While the Panthers were not winning games, Walter played well. It was a surprise when he was taken before Derek Anderson, but he got off to a hot start to his season.
Past 6 Games: 95/210 (45.2%), 4 TDs & 6 INTs
Analysis: Walter hasn't been as good as he was earlier in the season, but it's expected as the Panthers are bad and will likely pick in the top 3. He's had a solid rookie season and the Panthers can be excited about the future of their team.
Raiders QB Derek Anderson (19th Overall Pick)
First 7 Games: 100/193 (51.8%), 10 TDs & 3 INTs
Analysis: Just like Rodgers and Walter, Derek Anderson got off to a strong start to his season. The Raiders started the season 3-4 and Anderson was playing well, considered to be one of the best value picks in the draft.
Past 6 Games: 47/120 (39.2%), 3 TDs & 9 INTs
Analysis: After a strong start, Walter has had a second half of the season to forget about. He's gotten injured multiple times and had to leave games early, and the Raiders have struggled. After a 3-4 start, the Raiders have gone 1-5 in their past 6 games.
Conclusion:
This should end up being seen as a good QB class if the teams are patient with their young QBs. Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Walter and Derek Anderson got off to red hot starts. Even though they haven't played as well in the past few games, when they get better talent surrounded around them they should return to how they played earlier in the season. Alex Smith got off to a rough start, but he's played extremely well in his last few games and once he gets a good surrounding cast he should continue to improve.
