Way Too Early Mock Draft
1.01
OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson
Analysis: After drafting QB Andrew Walter in the first round, the Panthers have a lot of options with the 1st pick. I think there is a decent chance they end up trading down, but if they stay put they can go many different routes. Andrew Walter got sacked 58 times, which was the 2nd most in the league. A tackle going #1 overall doesn't happen often, but I think D'Brickashaw Ferguson could join that group. Pre-skew he has 73 speed, which will make him one of the fastest tackles in the league. He has 93 strength, along with 93 PBK and 92 RBK. Pre-skew He's among the top all rookies in both blocking numbers. He has 62 awareness, which will need to be worked on and makes him a bit raw, but his physical and blocking ratings are great and he should develop into an elite tackle in no time.
1.02
CB Antonio Cromartie
Analysis: The Jets are in a similar position to the Panthers in that they have a lot of options as they don't need a QB. The Jets added Derek Ross and Antrel Rolle last offseason to bolster their secondary, and they continue to do that with the best CB in the class. Cromartie has great size at 6'2 and pre-skew he has 73 awareness, the best pre-skew number in the class. He has 71 catching and 72 tackling, making him one of the more pro ready players in this class. He'd be able to start immediately and help bolster the Jets secondary.
1.03
WR Brandon Marshall
Analysis: The Cardinals traded for QB Chad Pennington to get a reliable QB, and they will want to make sure he has weapons to work with. Brandon Marshall is the best WR in this class, he's 6'5 and has 97 speed. He also has 99 acceleration and 83 catching, he's a physical specimen. His awareness is low at 52, but once that is raised he should become great WR1 and a matchup nightmare.
1.04
DT Haloti Ngata
Analysis: Just like the teams picking before them, the Giants don't need a QB. It's unlikely that a OT & DT will both be picked in the top 5, but championships are built through the trenches. Ngata has massive size at 6'4 340 lbs, along with 92 strength and 93 tackling. The Giants could use another DT to pair with Randy Starks. Ngata has 69 speed at 340 lbs which is impressive for the big man, he should develop into a great NT.
1.05
WR Greg Jennings
Analysis: The Chiefs are the first team in this class that could go QB. Bryon Leftwich has one year left on his contract and has thrown 45 TDs & 42 INTs in his career, but I think the Chiefs will opt to give him another year and surround him with talent. Greg Jennings doesn't have the same size as Brandon Marshall, but he's poised to be a great deep threat. Pre-skew he has 99 speed, 97 agility and 94 acceleration.
1.06
from
CB Devin Hester
Analysis: The Vikings have a really good roster, but they could benefit from adding another player to their secondary. Hester has 95 speed and 74 catching, which should turn him into a ball-hawking CB. He's 24 years old which may cause some teams to avoid him, but with his great athleticism and catching for a CB he has the potential to be a top 10 pick.
1.07
LB Chad Greenway
Analysis: The Chargers may end up moving this pick, potentially even moving up in the draft. they have a really good roster, with no real weaknesses. They have the flexibility to add a great player to this team, and that's what LB Chad Greenway is. He's a 6'3 LB with 99 speed, 95 acceleration and 86 tackling. He could go even higher to a team that wants an elite athlete.
1.08
from
LB DeMeco Ryans
Analysis: Just like with their first pick, the Jets should be looking to add a good player to their roster. While not as much of a physical specimen as Chad Greenway, DeMeco Ryans is a solid athlete in his own right. He has 91 speed, 70 awareness, and 91 tackling. He will be an instant starter when drafted and should be a reliable force in the middle for whatever team drafts him.
1.09
DT Kyle Williams
Analysis: The Saints currently only have one DT rostered, and that's 33 year old Dan Wilkinson. They add DT Kyle Williams, who has 90 strength, 65 awareness, and 90 tackle. His pre-skew numbers are very similar to Haloti Ngata, but he's a much smaller DT. He still should end up being a very solid IDL for whatever team drafts him, and would be a good fit for a Saints team that can use defensive help.
1.10
QB Vince Young
Analysis: Vince Young will probably go higher than this, as a team likely trades up for him. The Browns have QB Tim Couch, but they may want a reset at the position. Young has great physical traits, he has 97 THP and 96 THA. The biggest issue with him is that he has 59 awareness. This QB class lacks the pro readiness the last QB class had as no QB has above a 59 awareness pre-skew. Once Young's awareness is developed he should turn into a franchise QB, and the Browns would be happy to get him with the 10th pick.
1.11
QB Jay Cutler
Analysis: The Jaguars current starting QB is Tim Rattay, I think the Jaguars would like to improve at the position. They could be a team to watch to trade up for Vince Young, but they take Jay Cutler as they stay put at the 11th pick. Cutler has 97 THP and 91 THA, he has 54 awareness which will need to be improved. Cutler may not start immediately as he has low awareness, but with his high THP and good THA he has a high ceiling.
1.12
WR Marques Colston
Analysis: The Bears were a surprise team this past season, with rookie QB Aaron Rodgers having a great season. The Bears will want to surround him with more talent so he can take a bigger leap and they get him a big weapon in Marques Colston. He's 6'5 and has 87 speed, as well as 89 agility. He has low awareness and catching which could cause him to go much lower than this, but he's got great physical traits to become a reliable WR in the future.
1.13
OT Brad Butler
Analysis: The Buccaneers could use tackle help, as their RT Matt Lepsis is 32 years old. They get a well rounded tackle in Brad Butler, who has 89 strength, 89 PBK and 86 RBK. The Buccaneers are another team to watch for a potential trade up for a QB, but they stay put here and get themselves a franchise tackle.
1.14
TE Leonard Pope
Analysis: The 49ers add a unicorn in Leonard Pope, who stands at 6'8 264 lbs. He also has 90 speed and 92 agility. He could turn into a matchup nightmare for his size and speed and be a dominant red zone threat. The 49ers have been stuck in the middle the past few seasons and getting a player like Pope could help them get out of it.
1.15
from
CB Jarrett Bush
Analysis: The Bears took a WR with their first pick, and now that get an athletic player to add to their secondary. Jarrett Bush has 95 speed, 99 agility and 93 acceleration. He is raw in terms of awareness and catching but once developed he should turn into a really solid CB who can make up a lot of ground with his speed.
1.16
from
DE Victor Adeyanju
Analysis: The Eagles add a big fast DE in Victor Adeyanju. He's 6'4 284 lbs, and has 91 speed. His awareness and tackling are low so he's a raw prospect, but he has elite speed that would make him a worthwhile development piece that could turn into a great player in the future.
1.17
from
TE Garrett Mills
Analysis: The Jaguars got their QB of the future with their earlier pick, and now they get him an explosive weapon at TE. Garrett Mills has 92 speed and 78 catching at TE. He's a smaller TE at 6'1, but his explosive speed could make him a dynamic player and a mismatch for slower LBs.
1.18
DE Jeremy Mincey
Analysis: The Seahawks could use another starter at DE and they get an athletic one in Jeremy Mincey. He has 87 speed, 84 acceleration, and 65 tackling. The Seahawks have an older DE room and adding a young athletic player to the room like Mincey would give them a good developmental piece, who can develop into a starter in the future.
1.19
from
QB Brad Smith
Analysis: The Steelers may opt to stick with QB Kyle Boller, but he's in the last year of his contract and they may opt to go in a different direction at QB. Brad Smith has 96 THP and 82 THA, he's got a big arm but will need to improve his accuracy to become a franchise QB.
1.20
from
LB Gerris Wilkinson
Analysis: The Cardinals got the best WR in the draft with their first pick, and now they add an athletic LB in Gerris Wilkinson. Wilkinson has 86 speed, 85 strength, 92 agility, and 75 tackle. He's got great physical attributes and should be able to develop into a good sideline to sideline LB.
1.21
C Nick Mangold
Analysis: The Rams have a need at center, and they got the best one in the class with Nick Mangold. Mangold has 91 PBK and 92 RBK. While he's not much of an athlete, he's a great blocker and should give the Rams a long-term starter on the OL.
1.22
from
DE Mario Williams
Analysis: The Cardinals have a clear need at DE and address that by adding Mario Williams. He's a big DE at 300lbs, but has 78 speed which is solid for his size. He has 87 strength and 72 tackling, he's only 21 years old and should be able to develop into a great run stopping DE.
1.23
OT Jeromey Clary
Analysis: The Falcons have some young tackles and may not view it as a need, but Jeromey Clary would be a great option if they want to upgrade at the position. He needs to improve his play strength, but he's got elite RBK at 93 which is the highest pre-skew of any tackle. His PBK can be improved as it's 84 PBK, but his elite RBK gives him a good floor as a great run blocking tackle.
1.24
from
LB Tim Dobbins
Analysis: The Colts don't have many weaknesses on their roster, especially after trading away QB Peyton Manning for multiple starters. They add an athletic LB in Tim Dobbins with their pick. Dobbins has 88 speed, 62 awareness, and 72 tackling.
1.25
WR Bennie Brazell
Analysis: The Ravens could use more weapons for their offense, and Bennie Brazell is a good deep threat. He has 95 speed, 58 awareness, and 79 catching. He would add speed to the Ravens WR room and help give QB Cody Pickett another weapon to throw to.
1.26
from
TE Vernon Davis
Analysis: The Eagles originally had four 1st round picks, but traded a 1st for DE LE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila from the Packers and CB Deltha O'Neal from the Colts. The Eagles have a well-rounded roster but could use a dynamic weapon at TE. Vernon Davis is a well-rounded TE with 85 speed, 83 strength, 90 agility, 99 acceleration, and 79 catching.
1.27
from
QB Kellen Clemens
Analysis: The 49ers seem to be shopping QB J.P. Losman, they may end up going with QB A.J. Feeley. Feeley threw a lot of TDs, as well as a lot of INTs. They add a potential QB of the future in QB Kellen Clemens, who has 58 awareness, 90 THP and 87 THA.
1.28
from
DE Charles Bennett
Analysis: The Steelers got their QB earlier, and now they add another one of the drafts athletic DEs in Charles Bennett. Bennett has 86 speed and 81 strength, and helps round out the Steelers roster.
1.29
from
DT Gabe Watson
Analysis: The Packers add the most athletic DT in the class in Gabe Watson. Watson has 80 speed and 94 strength, he has great physical attributes giving him a strong floor.
1.30
from
LB Tim McGarigle
Analysis: The Panthers took a tackle with their first pick and now they add to their LB room by adding Tim McGarigle. McGarigle is a developmental project at LB, but he has 89 speed and 82 strength which give him a solid floor.
1.31
CB Jonathan Joseph
Analysis: The Patriots don't have any immediate needs, so they take CB Jonathan Joseph as a future starter at CB. He has 90 speed, 65 awareness, 95 agility, 95 acceleration and 77 tackling. Starting CB Shawn Springs in 31 years old, so Joseph can develop and eventually take over.
1.32
from
HB DeAngelo Williams
Analysis: The Jaguars finish out the 1st round by getting a franchise HB in DeAngelo Williams. He has 96 speed, 64 awareness, 94 agility, and 81 carrying. The Jaguars have a couple HBs on their roster and may like them enough to pass on drafting a HB, but Williams is arguably the best HB in the class and if he's still available with the 32nd pick they may draft him.
