2006 PTF Mock Draft V1.0 (The way too early version)

1.1- Carolina Panthers- WR Brandon Marshall- UCF
I view Marshall as the top dawg in this draft class, he has game changing ability with his 6'5" frame, he'll have no problems blowing right by DB's with his blazing fast speed and his top tier acceleration to go along with some of the best hands in this class which makes it a pretty easy decision even if it's not a #1 need for Carolina.

1.2- New York Jets- ILB DeMeco Ryans- Alabama
This dude is going to be as special or maybe even better than Jonathan Vilma if all the attributes hold true. He has the speed to get to the QB, the burst to get to RB's in the backfield, the strength to shed tackles with ease. He also already comes with elite tackling skills and above average football awareness. ILB may not be the sexiest position to take this high but Ryans can be a difference maker.

1.3- Arizona Cardinals- CB Antonio Cromartie- Florida State
Cromartie AKA Cro is a solid all around corner with great size at 6'2" 210 lbs., I'm liking this pick more if his speed stays the same or skews upwards but either way he is top tier. His catch and tackle are already almost in the elite tier with his above average football IQ that makes him an immediate starter who shouldn't be as much of a liability as the typical corner.

1.4- New York Giants- S/CB/DE/WR Chad Greenway- Iowa
My favorite prospect in this draft class, Greenway can literally play anywhere and it would make sense but I'll have to almost guarantee some of those attributes skew downwards. Even so if Ro wants to play him at DE he has all of the attributes to make him a top tier DE or even has the speed to play as a corner with his height he'd be legit.

1.5- Kansas City Chiefs- TE Leonard Pope- Georgia
QB Byron Leftwich is starting to come into his own all he needs toi do is stay healthy and giving him a 6'8" 264 lbs. monster to throw to when the OL play breaks down is a must. Pope is like no other we've seen at this level, his size with that speed is going to give defensive coordinators nightmares for years to come. The only negative I truly see is his blocking skills are very mediocre but the positives far outweight the negatives.

1.6- Minnesota Vikings- CB Devin Hester- Miami
Devin Hester has top end speed, good enough height, he has the closing speed to take an INT to the house, elite ball hawking skills to go along with average football awareness. He'll have some growing pains at 1st but as the progression comes rolling in he'll be a top corner in this league for years to come.

1.7- San Diego Chargers- RT DBrickashaw Ferguson- Virginia
He appears to be the best OL in this class by a good margin which seems to be an area the Chargers can improve upon and get his young signal caller. He has the most nimble athletic feet in this class able to pull or swing out on runs / screen plays with ease plus his strength gives him the power to push DL backwards. This would be a great fit for him here to anchor that Charges OL for a decade.

1.8- New York Jets- TE Vernon Davis- Maryland
Davis has the height of a WR, body frame of a FB and will be an absolute nightmare to cover at the PTF level. He will be a mismatch on every play as LB's are going to break their ankles trying to keep up with him. He has the speed to get by most LB/DB and the acceleration to take it to the house on any given play.

1.9- New Orleans Saints- DT Haloti Ngata- Oregon
This may not be the sexiest pick for New Orleans but he is a mountain of a man who you can plug and play and he should eat up blockers in front of him at 6'4" 340 lbs. He has excellent speed and burst to the QB or RB for a man of his stature.

1.10- Cleveland Browns- WR Greg Jennings- Western Michigan
I feel like the Browns are on the cusp they just need some play makers on both sides of the ball and Jennings offers a solid #2 WR option opossite of Larry Fitzgerald. Jennings has 99 SPD/99 AGI/ 99 ACC potential but I'd figure some GM's won't be to keen on the height but their loss is Cleveland's gain.

1.11- Jacksonville Jaguars- QB Vince Young- Texas
QB for the Jags seems like a no brainer and I just went with the guy who has it all, the best football IQ- check, the best arm talent- check, the best throwing accuracy- check. I also checked out the activity points, it appears the Jags GM has more than enough AP to cconvert him into a pocket passer. I have no clue if the attributes skew down but if they don't I'd say he's the 1st QB off the board.

1.12- Chicago Bears- CB Kelly Jennings- Miami
The Bears only had 10 interceptions from their secondary last season so that needs to be upgraded. Jennings isn't some monster but what he lacks in height he makes up with potential 99 speed/99 agility/99 acceleration. Some of his other attributes need work but you can't teach track style speed in the PTF... YET!

1.13- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- QB Jay Cutler- Vanderbilt
The Bucs are in desparate need of a young signal caller of the future or the now. Cutler has great size, a rocket arm and very accurate but it does look like he's a scrambler so that will have to be changed at some point. He's got decent size and appears to be able to handle the rigors of the PTF, he can work on the AWr throughout the season.

1.14- San Francisco 49ers- CB Johnathan Joseph- South Carolina
Joseph isn't going to wow you with his size but he's fundamentally sound everywhere else. excellent speed, can break on the ball with ease and is a top tier tackler. He should start immediately even if it's at nickel corner for the 9ers.

1.15- Chicago Bears- WR Marques Colston- Hofstra
Rodgers gets more help in the form of the 6'5" Colston, he isn't a speed merchant but will use his size especially in the red zone. His awareness and catch are pedestrian but he can progress those along the way. Some GM's might have him a bit higher due to size but I think this is more the spot he should go unless most of his attributes skew upwards.

1.16- Philadelphia Eagles- DE Mario Williams- N.C. State
The Eagles have aa solid DL but some of the guys are getting up there in age and Williams can groom behind them or even sub in at DT if need be. He's got good speed, excellent burst off the the line which will allow him to get to the QB or RB and the STR to push the OL backwards.

1.17- Jacksonville Jaguars- OLB Clint Ingram- Oklahoma
I think Ingram could be a solid addition to the jags LB core if he stays the same or even better if he skews up. He's fast, agile, strong, good size, a solid tackler and can shed tackles with his above average strength. He and Cutler will be solid additions.

1.18- Seattle Seahawks- DE Vincent Adeyanju- Indiana
Is there a better fit for the Seahawks than Adeyanju? I don't think there is. He has off the charts speed for a DE with excellent closing speed capable of getting to the QB or wrecking RB's lives in the backfield plus his strength is really good as well but will need to work on the usual attributes.

1.19- Pittsburgh Steelers- DE Charles Bennett- Clemson
The Steelers can go several different routes here but maybe shoring up the DL could help that defense in the long run. Bennett has speed, top tier strength and a solid burst. QB is also in play here but you never completely what another GM is thinking until they actually pick.

1.20- Arizona Cardinals- RT Brad Butler- Virginia
Death, taxes and Will spending a 1st round pick on OL which isn't a terrible strategy. Butler has the size at 6'7" 315 lbs. to anchor the OL. He has quick feet for a man his size, good enough strength and above average run and pass blocking.

1.21- St. Louis Rams- S Pat Watkins- Florida State
Watkins gives the Rams add great size at 6'5" 220 lbs back to the secondary after losing CB Bobby Taylor. I love his strength, he should be able to shed tackles at the PTF level in the run game, he has average IQ plus excellent burst to the ball. He'll need to work on some attributes but there is no denying the talent.

1.22- Arizona Cardinals- RB DeAngelo Williams- Memphis
Now that you traded for Pennington there is no time to wait, the Cards must build around him and that means no more RB that has 1 foot in the nursing home. Williams is by far the best back in this draft. His speed sets him apart as a homerun hitter every time he touches the ball, he's a good pass catcher out of the backfield and has the necessary strength needed to shed those tackles who will need it at his size plus will start from day 1.

1.23- Atlanta Falcons- ILB Gerris Wilkinson- Georgia Tech
Wilkinson is a stud in the making who can either come in and start day 1 under Brooking before taking over or wait in the wings. Either way the dirty birds are getting a speedy ILB with top tier strength, solid in coverage and comes in as a above average tackler.

1.24- Indianapolis Colts- ILB A.J. Hawk- Ohio State
Hawk is a very similar player to the player selected just before him in Wilkinson. I think hawk can play in any scheme fit with his good size, he's a speedy LB able to get around blockers and the burst to hit the hole with conviction "That's what she said". His awareness and tackle can be worked on but I like the rest of Hawk's attributes.

1.25- Baltimore Ravens- OLB James Anderson- Virginia Tech
The Ravens struck gold with LB Shawne Merriman last season could they do the same this season? There is alot to like about Anderson, his speed is off the charts, his burst is just as deadly and he has the strength to shed tackles. He'll have to work on his football awareness and tackling at the next level but lucky for Norbert that those are the 2 easiest attributes to need to work on.

1.26- Philadelphia Eagles- TE Mercedes Lewis- UCLA
This might be the best tight end class I've seen, Lewis is the full package of size at 6'6", the strength to shed tackles, the speed/acceleration to get by LB's and DB's with a great pair of hands. His blocking is avaerge to above average which is always good to have.

1.27- San Franciso 49ers- QB Matt Leinart- USC
It looks like QB J.P, Losman has fell out of favor in San Fran and i think the plan is to see what they have in A.J. Feeley but tthere should be a backup plan if that goes south especially now that the Cards just turned things up with the Pennington addition. Leinart has the size you like at QB at 6'5" 227 lbs so he'll be able to withstand the pounding rookie QB's usually go through. he has good arm strength and above average accuracy. I think he'll eventually start year 1 at some time.

1.28- Pittsburgh Steelers- WR Bennie Brazell- LSU
If the Steelers are sticking with Boller as the man then they need to give him weapons to progress. Brazell isn't just a 1 trick pony but he does have the speed most GM's desire, not only does he have the speed but he also has a nice set of hands and his jump is top tier. He'll start in some capacity in year 1 at worst being the slot WR.

1.29- Green Bay Packers- NT Gabe Watson- Michigan
Robaire Smith is on the block so it makes sense for me to replenish this position and Watson could be an animal for us anchoring the middle of the defensive line. I love his 6'3" 338 lbs frame, his 80 speed for a guy his size is awesome, his strength is on the elite side as well. I'd like to see more burst to the ball so hopefully that skews up but his tackle will be a concern for us and would need to be addressed with progression all season long but i like all the rest.

1.30- Carolina Panthers- OT Jonathan Scott- Texas
The Panthers are loaded with talent on offense, have a nice young QB thier grooming, added the best player in the draft in WR Brandan Marshall and now give their young signal caller some protection. Scott is of good size at 6'6" 318 lbs, good starting football IQ, nimble feet able to burst to the defensive lineman, enough strength to hold his own and above average run/pass blocking who could start immediately.

1.31- New England Patriots- DE Jeremy Mincey- Florida
With Richard Seymour on the trade block it looks like the Pats may be looking to replenish the DL, Seymour has been a staple for them with 43 sacks in 3 years i think plugging in Mincey if Seymour is dealt would be an easy transition. he's going to be a speed rusher at 280 lbs with excellent burst to the football. He'll need to work on his strength which is what training camp is for and his tackling at the next level but you can't teach natural born ability.

1.32- Jacksonville Jaguars- S Dawan Landry- Georgia Tech
The jags close out the draft on a high note, they came away with a franchise Qb, solid OLB and now shore up the secondary with the older but very talented Landry who brings great athleticism to the position, he's a ball hawk who will contest with WR for 50/50 balls, there is alot to like about Landry and he'll work on the awareness throughout the season.
