Mock I | PICK | TEAM | PLAYER | ANALYSIS | | 1.01 | | MLB DeMeco Ryans | While I don’t agree with the pick in this spot, there’s no denying the talent that DeMeco Ryans has. He’s 22-years-old, 6’1”, 247lbs, 91 SPD, 77 STR, 70 AWR, 99 AGI, 95 ACC, 90 TAK. He is pro ready out of the gate, and I’m sure that’s much of the appeal. There are only 3 other 90+ SPD MLBs in the game, Titans Solomon Bates, Rams Cie Grant, and Cowboys Troy Polamalu (formerly a safety). His athleticism is elite at the position. The reason I don’t like the selection at this point is due to positional priority. In my personal opinion, the most important positions are QB, CB, DE, WR. To be perfectly honest, while everybody wants a good MLB, I’m not sure where that position fits in with my priorities. It is my opinion that if this was the target, the Panthers should have traded back a few spots to bank some extra picks, save some salary and still get their guy. And if someone did take him, WR Brandon Marshall and CB Antonio Cromartie are fantastic consolation prizes. The question of position of need comes into play, of course, and I get that they’re set at WR and CB, I just feel like this is a reach based on positional value, not talent, just my 2 cents. | | 1.02 | | WR Brandon Marshall | I don’t know if the Cardinals are going Marshall here, something in my gut tells me they’re eyeing CB Antonio Cromartie because of GM Will Cook’s affinity for AWR. I do think it’s time to rock the boat a little bit, though. They are okay at CB, but outside of WR T.J. Houshmanzadeh they’re lacking weapons at WR. They shipped QB Philip Rivers to Houston for much cheaper than I would have expected to go with the more veteran QB Chad Pennington. The growing pains of progressing a QB are gone, but Pennington is 30-years-old at 89 THP, his window is right now. Last year was a mess for Arizona, they had the 32nd ranked defense in points allowed while having the 29th ranked offense in points scored. In 2004 they were 4th in defense and 21st in offense and 2003 they were 14th in defense and 22nd in offense. While the defense took a big hit last year, I think it’s easier to upgrade that side of the ball and get them back to at least average. The offense being 29th, 21st and 22nd the last 3 years needs to change if the team wants success, and adding a playmaker like 6’5”, 97 SPD, 99 ACC, 83 CTH Brandon Marshall. He is Randy Moss in his prime, I don’t know how you can pass on that. | | 1.03 | | CB Antonio Cromartie | Brandon Marshall not going 1.1 was great new for Minnesota but Arizona making the smart choice to select him really throws a wrench in the Vikings plans. After trading WR Randy Moss for a ridiculously obscene amount, it appears the team took those picks and flipped them to move up to 1.3 to draft his replica in Marshall. After making the move they’re now pressed to find value at this spot at a priority position. LE Jason Taylor is getting older so they could go DE here, I would imagine that guy would be Mario Williams but I just don’t think he’s top 3 material. I’m sure he would be productive with his size, SPD and ACC even though that AGI is scary. At the end of the day I think CBs are harder to acquire and a 22-year-old 73 AWR CB at 6’2”, 90 SPD, 91 ACC is hard to pass up. The athleticism isn’t crazy, but he would be eligible for 7 years of Training Camp he could get to 98 SPD, 99 ACC. | | 1.04 | | LE Mario Williams | After the big two come off the board (Marshall and Cromartie), things will vary depending on who is performing the evaluation. There are some good CBs in the draft, but I don’t see any that are top 5 material. As LE Michael Strahan hits free agency, drafting Mario Williams works out very well for them. Strahan is 35-years-old and 70 SPD and 76 ACC, so I can’t imagine the team has plans to bring him back as a starter. Williams as I mentioned above does have some questions with his AGI, but he has a DT body at 6’6”, 300lbs and 78 SPD, 87 STR, 86 ACC. He could honestly play DT or DE. I think the size, strength and athleticism combination is great and wouldn’t worry too much about the AGI. I just prefer guys who can wiggle a bit more on the edge. Another selling point for Mario is being age 21, he would be eligible for 8 Training Camps, allowing +8 into 3 different attributes, in a draft class where it feels like a lot of talent is 23 or 24-years-old, I think this is a big thing. | | 1.05 | | ROLB Chad Greenway | The Vikings are back on the clock for the 2nd time in the top 5. At this point they’re looking for difference makers after their plans got flipped upside down by the Cardinals. I don’t love taking LBs in the top 5, but I think this draft is a bit unique in that there are some super studs at LB, too many to be honest. If we keep seeing talent like this at LB we will be dangerously close to the past league issues where athleticism was just way high across the board at all positions. Hopefully we don’t see a class like this again, there are 8 LBs with 86 SPD or higher pre-skew in this draft alone. Of the 236 LBs in the league, only 25 of them are 86+ SPD and I believe at least 5 of them were non-traditional position changes. If you take them out, there were 20 natural LBs at that SPD with 8 more about to join the fold. Despite the strength of the LB class, Greenway should be rather unique if the attributes return back to Earth in future classes. He’s 6’3”, 237lbs, 99 SPD, 72 STR, 95 ACC. That is insane. It’s not really a need for Minnesota, but he easily pushes out ROLB Joe Odom. Odom had been acquired last year for a future 2 and future 3, that felt rich at the time and with this class I don’t see Minnesota getting that type of return back for him. But being 25-years-old, I’m sure someone will be interested and they’ll be able to salvage some draft capital by moving him. | | 1.06 | | CB Johnathan Joseph | When evaluating this team one of the first things that stood out to me as no LT. I had thought that might be a Match Eligible guy, but that person is FB Mike Alstott. I just don’t think Ferguson is quite worth a top 6 pick, but he is very good. This is a matter of personal preference, some GMs invest heavily into their OL but that is a matter of personal preference. To me the OL is not a top priority, so we go with a position that is. Joseph may get glossed over because he’s under 6’0”, but at 22-years-old, he’s 5’11”, 90 SPD, 65 AWR, 95 AGI, 95 ACC. The SPD will get him glossed over as well. Are there guys that have better height/athleticism? Yes. Many of them are 24-years-old and they are more raw. I remember Chris traded the 2.1 for CB Derek Ross, and I didn’t like that move for them, but it signaled to me he values AWR more than athleticism, and if that’s true Joseph could be someone they’re eyeballing here. They have to upgrade the CB position somehow, I don’t think they can push forward with Terrence McGee or Ricardo Colclough as their #2 CB. | | 1.07 | | QB Vince Young | I was wondering if the Saints were looking to draft Vince Young as Ben Roethlisberger is already 27-years-old, and while he just got to 81 AWR/95 THA, that THP of 85 is not going to survive regression. Roethlisberger is entering year 3 and already at 3 or 4 years left on his career due to his advanced age and arm strength. However, the Jaguars, who had just acquired QB Derek Anderson from the Raiders, which was a surprising move by Oakland’s part, have now dealt Anderson away for the 1.13 pick. This signals to all of PTF that the Jaguars are in on a QB here, and there’s no other QB in the draft that it could be other than Vince Young. Young is 23-years-old, 6’5”, 59 AWR, 97 THP, 96 THA and a scrambler. I would assume that his player tendency would be changed to pocket or balanced. The THP and THA is obviously excellent. On a side note, I’m not convinced THA is all that important, it was a concern of mine with Kerry Collins but he has been fine in the very low 80s. If Young can stay healthy and perform relatively well considering his AWR, he has an outside chance of being where Derek Anderson is today, but I think he's a year and a half behind him in AWR, but 2 years younger so I suppose that’s the tradeoff. Personally, developing QBs sucks, I’d take the first chance to skip a year or more to get to competing! | | 1.08 | | RT DBrickashaw Ferguson | So the Jets are back on the clock and we already highlighted this guy at their last pick. They got their CB that many may view as a “reach”, I don’t. But now they get the slam dunk, and it all makes sense as he was a real-life Jet as well. Ferguson is 23-years-old, 6’6”, 310lbs, 73 SPD, 93 STR, 62 AWR, 73 AGI, 62 ACC, 93 PBK, 92 RBK. That is all excellent stuff, except for the ACC. Based on these other attributes maybe that ACC is a bit of an outlier and it skews up, it is non-bolded so it could go up pretty considerably. Regardless, the other attributes are too good to pass on for that, the ACC can be improved in Training Camp and he will get +1 during rookie and again during sophomore progression. Like many of these attributes we don’t even definitely know if ACC really matters, especially for Tackles. Would it for pulling guards? Probably. I think AGI is more important when DL are trying to get around an OL, someone that can wiggle is more likely to stop them, in theory. Regardless, I think this would be a homerun for the J-E-T-S and always fun to see the PTF draft match the real-life draft placement. | | 1.09 | | TE Leonard Pope | As I mentioned above, I wonder if the Saints were interested in Vince Young, but we won’t know if they truly would’ve gone in that direction now. The Saints have some talent in the secondary, at LB and LE. What you see defensively is a massive hole at DT. On offense, it appears Roethlisberger stays, and they’ve got weapons at WR in Kassim Osgood, Mike Williams and Matt Jones, so they’re more than set there. This would be a good landing spot for DT Haloti Ngata, but judging by the Saints affinity for large WRs, I bet you they’re drooling over a 6’8” TE who happens to be 90 SPD, 92 AGI, 89 ACC. If they were looking to move up, I wonder if it’s for this guy and not Vince Young! | | 1.10 | | RE Victor Adeyanju | With all seriousness I am hoping this is not a missed pick. I don’t know who the Browns would be after, but I fear that they haven’t looked at the class yet either. The team is very short on talent so they could go in any number of directions. The team had wanted to get out from QB Tim Couch and had earned the Activity Points to release him, but with no good options at QB last year they wisely hung onto him. Now that Vince Young is off the board, I don’t see a QB worth taking at the 10th pick. With having so many needs, the nice thing about it is it gives you a ton of flexibility to make a pick. While the team recently restructured LE Aaron Schobel from a 2-year contract to a 3-year contract, for reasons unknown, I don’t think it should prevent them from taking the best player available here. Adeyanju doesn’t have the ACC I covet at the position, but at 23-years-old, 6’4”, 284lbs, 91 SPD, 77 STR, 42 AWR, 79 AGI, 82 ACC, it’s hard to pass on a guy like that. I feel like he could wreak havoc on RTs. If that SPD skews down, since it’s non-bolded, I think RE Jeremy Mincey would be a good alternate selection here instead. | | 1.11 | | WR Greg Jennings | The Chargers have a very good roster and there are not a lot of holes for them to fill. I could see them looking for an OL, but I just don’t feel confident in taking one outside of Ferguson, who is already off the board. They could also use a SS, but I don’t see one that’s going to jump off the page this high. It’s possible San Diego looks to trade down and take care of both of those spots in the later 1st or 2nd rounds, but if not, I could see them going for an electric talent like Jennings. We have seen several speedy WRs play at an elite level, but I also wonder how Jennings would fit in with San Diego’s ball control style offense. You can never have too many playmakers, however, and this could even free up the team to move on from big bodied WR Plaxico Burress, which would surely draw some interest from around the league. | | 1.12 | | CB Jarrett Bush | Looking at the Bears team I think this pick has to be on the defensive side of the ball. They’ve lost CB Jerry Azumah and potentially LOLB Jerry Porter. If they match on Porter then I would wager the pick will be in the secondary, but if not I could see LB in play here. Since, at the time that I’m writing this, it is not known how that will play out, I think the safest selection would be in the secondary. If Kelly Jennings isn’t 24-years-old, I think he’s the pick, but I just don’t like taking rookies that old, especially this early. It also means they would need to pass on former real-life Bear Devin Hester, which would create a cool storyline. Bush has lower AWR than I would like, but he’s 22-years-old, 6’0”, 95 SPD, 70 STR, 47 AWR, 99 AGI, 93 ACC. Everything but the AWR is great, and he’s young compared to a lot of the better players in this class. | | 1.13 | | TE Vernon Davis | I think the Jaguars secondary is pretty set. I don’t think their OL is anything special from an athletic standpoint but I don’t get the sense that they’re looking to upgrade that, they seem to be content with higher AWR, lower athleticism guys. They definitely need an upgrade at HB, TE and their LB group is uninspiring aside from Raheeb Orr, although Akin Ayodele is alright I guess. QB development has to be priority #1 after selecting Vince Young earlier in this draft and the best ways to do that are to protect him, provide him with weapons and a running game to take the pressure off him. I would prefer the Jags get a running back to lean into that, but I don’t see any that I would take this high, they all have flaws, so I think TE is a strong option for them. Anthony Fasano is a good candidate here, but Vernon Davis edges him out due to his AGI & ACC. Davis is 22-years-old, 85 SPD, 83 STR, 90 AGI, 99 ACC, 79 CTH. That ACC is insane if it holds! | | 1.14 | | RE Jeremy Mincey | The Redskins have traded some big names this off-season, like CB Champ Bailey, TE Jason Witten, SS Hanik Milligan and LE Ty Warren. I think Washington is okay with CBs Fred Smoot and Nnamdi Asomugha, and while I think they could use help at Safety I don’t think you take anybody this year, not this year anyways. They do have a large hole vacated by Ty Warren and that is a premium position you definitely should jump on early in the draft. Mincey is 23-years-old, 6’4”, 280lbs, 87 SPD, 70 STR, 50 AWR, 78 AGI, 84 ACC. Depending on skews he could end up being the best DE in the draft class, I think he, Mario Williams and Victor Adeyanju are close. He definitely has the ability to be a dominate LE in the league, and if I’m Washington I’m ecstatic someone of this caliber has fallen this far! | | 1.15 | | MLB Gerris Wilkinson | The Bears are back on the clock and before they even make their 1.12 and 1.15 picks, they’re over the cap. That is without signing any FAs in the pre-draft bidding period, and without having submitted a match/decline for LOLB Jerry Porter. At this point I would expect them to not respond, which is an automatic decline, or for them to decline it as they simply cannot afford the contract right now. These two first round picks are going to cost them an additional $4.6m against the cap, they still have a 3rd, two 4ths, a 5th and a 6th ahead. I know he will ask Will for some guidance, and Will loves the higher AWR guys, so LOLB James Anderson is probably out with his 40 AWR. I’m not sure they would love the other guys, I think MLB Gerris Wilkinson would be a good candidate, but will they acquire enough APs to move him to OLB? I don’t know, but I don’t think they can pass on him! He is 23-years-old, 6’3”, 231lbs, 86 SPD, 85 STR, 48 AWR, 92 AGI, 88 ACC, 75 TAK. If it’s me, I’m keeping Wilkinson inside due to his bigger size and kicking the 6’1” Kawika Mitchell out to OLB, he will just need to find a way to get some APs to do that. He could play Mitchell out of position without an official position change, that 20% temporary reduction in AWR would take him from 70 to 56. | | 1.16 | | TE Anthony Fasano | After selecting RE Jeremy Mincey at 1.14, I think the Redskins should focus on the offensive side of the ball. They traded a 1st, 3rd and Patrick Ramsey for David Garrard, so he’s obviously their guy, but at 28-years-old and 73 AWR, for how much longer? By the time he’s in the 80s for AWR he’s rolling downhill. They need to surround him with weapons ASAP! WR Braylon Edwards is a stud and Laveranues Coles has been productive every season, so they probably are good at WR, but after moving TE Jason Witten there’s a big hole there. I’m also uninspired by any of the HBs they have on the roster. The Redskins pick again at 2.7 so I think they can find running back there, but they won’t get a top TE that far, so they have to grab Witten’s replacement now or get boxed out. The run has started with Leonard Pope and Vernon Davis already being taken, so the Redskins draft Fasano. He’s 22-years-old, 6’4”, 258lbs, 86 SPD, 84 STR, 46 AWR, 82 AGI, 90 ACC, 73 CTH. The RBK for all these pass-catching TEs is pretty low, but you’re drafting them to be a weapon in the pass game. He has the STR and size to contribute as a blocker. I could see Tony Scheffler making his way into this group of TEs with a good skew, but I think there’s a drop-off after the top 4. | | 1.17 | | QB Jay Cutler | I was extremely surprised to see the Raiders deal Derek Anderson away after having a strong rookie campaign. It felt cheap at the time, too, and we have since seen Anderson get flipped for more (1.13 after acquiring him for 1.17). Perhaps Oakland took Anderson out of necessity and wasn’t the type of QB they coveted? They let Kerry Collins walk in Free Agency, but I don’t think many saw him playing to the level that he did. They acquired Brian Griese at the cost of a future 1 in Match Eligible FA, then dealt him to Chicago after a year. The only thing that makes sense with their musical chairs at the position is that their GM has a fascination with scrambling QBs, when everybody else in the league pretty much despises them. It has to irritate GM Tim Miller when he sees someone like Vince Young get drafted and turned into a pocket passer! I had mentioned above that I felt like Matt Leinart could be the 2nd QB off the board, but Jay Cutler is closer to a scrambling QB at 71 SPD, 70 ACC. If they take a QB he would be the guy I think they target, but I could also see them saying “FUCK IT” and riding it out with Jim Sorgi until he gets knocked out with his newly improved 33 INJ rating and forced to turn to Jeff Smoker and whatever Free Agent QB is out there. In that scenario they need to hold onto their future 1st and control their destiny in the next draft | | 1.18 | | LOLB James Anderson | The Seahawks literally have nobody at LE right now. It’s been a quiet off-season for them as they’ve only restructured their ROLB E.J. Henderson. I just don’t see an impactful DE right now that I could justify selecting here. I know Rock loves super athletic players, but in years past it feels like he took care of his team’s needs in the first 2 rounds before he went looking for those diamonds in the rough. This year I think they go with the freak athlete in the first round just because they can’t fill their biggest draft need without stretching it. Anderson is 23-years-old, 6’2”, 235lbs with 91 SPD, 77 STR, 84 AGI, 92 ACC. Sounds great! The issue is his 40 AWR and 64 TAK. There are only a few GMs that I could see overlooking those two parts of a player’s game and Rock is one of them. | | 1.19 | | DT Haloti Ngata | Kansas City has been pretty active this off-season, they now have Peyton Manning in the division and a Super Bowl winner from just 2 seasons ago, so they have their work cut out for them. The team has been shopping CB Eric Warfield but they’re probably okay with Charles Tillman and Corey Webster. They did just trade productive DT Ryan Sims to Atlanta in what appeared to be a cap saving move. Luckily for them no DTs have been taken thus far, but not due to a lack of talent at the position as this is one of the richest rookie DT groups we’ve seen. You could make a case for 3 different DTs here, so a lot will depend on the skew. STR does get bumped up with rookie and sophomore progression, so I don’t penalize OL/DL too much for being weaker, but I do think weaker DTs have a harder time producing, so with the pick of the litter I think the Chiefs hone in on Haloti Ngata and Kyle Williams. Ultimately, the 6’4” 340lb frame of Ngata, and being just 22-years-old, gives him the edge over Williams. Ngata is 69 SPD, 92 STR, 63 AWR, 72 AGI and 77 ACC. He is a great DT and young! | | 1.20 | | DT Kyle Williams | I have no idea what type of players the Cardinals covet other than they like high AWR guys. There are quite a few of them in the 60s, and one of them is a stud (in real life, too) and just happens to play a position that they traded away. Rocky Bernard was shipped to San Diego in a deal for HB Correll Buckhalter, and now Williams can slide into that vacated role. He’s 23-years-old, 6’1”, 303lbs, 72 SPD, 90 STR, 65 AWR, 69 AGI, 77 ACC. Other than wanting high IQ guys I have no idea what other things GM Will Cook is looking for, but have to imagine the athleticism is sought after, just isn’t prioritized. I think Williams is a great pick and would love for him to rightfully play in Buffalo! | | 1.21 | | HB DeAngelo Williams | The Rams are getting older and their QB Kurt Warner is struggling to stay healthy, but they still managed to make it to the playoffs on a 9-7 record last year. You have to think they need better than that moving forward, but it is the NFC after all! Marshall Faulk is now 33-years-old and now that Torry Holt is at 30-years-old, he will be on the gradual decline as well, the Rams will need to inject some new life into the offense for when Marc Bulger inevitably takes over the reins from Warner. No HBs have been taken yet, there is some talent in the pool but they all seem to have some warts. I think the guy that is the most likable of the pack is Williams. His frame will scare some off as he’s 5’9”, 207lbs, but he has everything else except the BTK that you’d want. He’s 96 SPD, 76 STR, 64 AWR, 94 AGI, 90 ACC, 81 CAR. Once the BTK gets bumped up you’ll see more productiveness from him, and the Rams have the ability to move on from Faulk who is costing them $8.48m against the cap, while the team only has $3.64m in space. | | 1.22 | | LG Davin Joseph | The Lions have a good roster so finding an area to upgrade can be a bit challenging. Their OL isn't the strongest position group, and they also lost RG Sean Locklear to an unfortunate career ending injury last year, so perhaps OL is the way to go. I like LT Andrew Whitworth if not for being 25-years-old and 45 AWR, yikes! There are not a lot of slam dunks with the OL class this year, it feels like GMs are going to have to manage some attributes that aren't the most desirable despite being a first round talent. Joseph is 23-years-old, 6'3", 313lbs, 62 SPD, 93 STR, 52 AWR, 53 AGI, 82 ACC, 79 PBK, 78 RBK. The AGI is a little bit lower than I like, but perfectly manageable. The PBK/RBK would ideally be higher, but it's progressable, otherwise the age, size, SPD, STR and ACC are good. | | 1.23 | | RG Rob Sims | It appears the Packers are in for kind of a rebuild. QB Brett Favre has retired, they traded WR Javon Walker recently, LE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, SS Darren Sharper, 3 starting OL and moved DTs Casey Hampton and Jamal Williams last year. Their only addition to offset those losses was WR Hines Ward. I would imagine they're leaning onto veteran WRs to help ease the load for new starting QB Dave Ragone, which makes sense. I could see Green Bay going LB, DL or OL here. After trading good value for the pair of DTs I know GM Brad Barber had a difficult time getting similar value out of them, so I don't think they go DT in round 1 here, even though I know he values them, or at least he did. I think they can make the current LB group work, but the OL looks like it needs a big overhaul, especially with a young QB. I think Sims could potentially move to RT with a good skew, but if not he could start everywhere else on the OL for them. He's 23-years-old, 6'3", 312lbs, 60 SPD, 90 STR, 55 AWR, 67 AGI, 70 ACC, 76 PBK, 85 RBK. The PBK would give me concerns at RT right now as well, he's a good candidate to flip to the left side and rack up some pancakes and progression before moving back over to the right side where guys get exposed. | | 1.24 | | LT Tony Moll | Another contender that is without their superstar QB, but this one because of a trade! I read the article about the Colts/Broncos deal with Peyton Manning and saw the criticism for the Broncos, I absolutely, unequivocally disagree. Colts let Peyton go WAYYYY too cheap! But he gone! They brought in QB Chris Simms and CB Marcus Trufant in the deal, but lost RT Tarik Glenn, CB Deltha O'Neal and LOLB Mike Peterson. They've got WR Reggie Wayne and HB Edgerrin James around Simms, so those are 2 weapons. Charles Rogers did well last year, but it will be a different story without Peyton, can he be productive with Simms? I think they play it out to see. I think their most glaring hole is RT, but compared to this class their LBs are also pretty average, so maybe they could go there as well. This was a very tough decision, I really wanted to go LB here but I think OL is the bigger hole. Moll is solid at 23-years-old, 6'5", 315lbs, 58 SPD, 86 STR, 54 AWR, 64 AGI, 83 ACC, 77 PBK, 76 RBK. As I mentioned above for the Packers, Moll is even a bigger candidate to move to start on the left side and develop that SPD and STR. The STR will jump +3 just from rookie and sophomore progression and SPD will +1. After 2 years he'd be 59 SPD, 89 STR, 57 AWR, 66 AGI, 85 ACC, 79 PBK, 78 RBK, without any other progression or Training Camp. The AGI/ACC combo is what makes him attractive. | | 1.25 | | WR Marques Colston | The Ravens are looking to make a big jump into the early half of the 1st round, so they must have their eyes on someone! Norbert usually drafts very well, so I'm curious who they're targeting. It's been a pretty quiet off-season for them, with perhaps the biggest move having to match on their Match Eligible TE Todd Heap. They've been facing a bit of a squeeze with their cap lately so there was some question as to whether they would bring Heap back on the $36.5m contract over 5 years, but that question has been answered. My guess for Baltimore is they want DT Haloti Ngata but he isn't making it this far, although some mocks I'm seeing have some dudes SLIPPING! If they stay put, I think another position they could be eyeing is WR, they're just an uninspiring group. I know they prioritize the run, so maybe Colston fits their gameplan as he's 6'5", 225lbs, 87 SPD, 77 STR, 48 AWR, 89 AGI, 85 ACC, 63 CTH. This is a dart throw on my part, I wonder if Norbert sees the size, STR and 57 RBK feels he could be a fit. He would need a skew up, I don't think an 87 SPD, 85 ACC WR is worthy of 1.25, but he's a big name so perhaps he does! If they elect to go with a more traditional pass catching WR, I see Bennie Brazell's name thrown out there a lot, I'm not a fan, I'd lean Derek Hagan or Domenik Hixon. | | 1.26 | | ROLB Tim McGarigle | The defending AFC Champs don't have many holes on their roster, as you would expect. They've made a handful of deals but nothing Earth shattering, like putting QB Tom Brady on the block. Unfortunately they didn't follow through with that! One area I could see New England maybe wants to upgrade is ROLB, but it's really a stretch. It just so happens there's a very athletic guy, or two, at the position. McGarigle is 23-years-old, and while he's only 6'0", he's 240lbs, 89 SPD, 82 STR, 52 AWR, 80 AGI, 80 ACC and 69 TAK. I don't love the height, but the SPD & STR really make you overlook that. The ACC could be better, and the TAK is a concern, but McGarigle has a freakish SPD/STR combination that is very appealing. The other OLB I was considering here is Chris Gocong, he has a higher floor but not as high of a ceiling, I could see him being the safer choice they ultimately decide to go with. | | 1.27 | | WR Derek Hagan | The Chiefs are on the clock with back-to-back picks after already making one selection at 1.19, with 4 picks in the round the Chiefs will need to utilize restructures ahead of time to make sure they retain everybody. They took Ngata at 19, I think their defense is alright, but their offense needs to kick it up a notch to keep up with Peyton Manning and the Broncos and the San Diego Chargers. I'm not a big fan of their existing WRs and could see the team looking to upgrade at the position, especially after losing WR Dante Hall to Buffalo, he was their leading WR last year. Hagahn is 22-years-old, a big selling point! He's 6'2", 210lbs, 94 SPD, 67 STR, 43 AWR, 81 AGI, 92 ACC, 71 CTH. The AGI is a bit low, but I'd rather focus on the ACC more than that, and when you compare him to another WR at this spot like Domenik Hixon, I'd take the +3 ACC over the -9 AGI, personally. Hagan would immediately step in and be their #1 WR. | | 1.28 | | TE Garrett Mills | I can't see the Chiefs doubling down at WR, I'm not blown away at the position. I could see them go and get a big weapon at TE, especially as Alge Crumpler is now 29-years-old. Mills is 23-years-old, 6'1", 235lbs, 92 SPD, 72 STR, 48 AWR, 73 AGI, 74 ACC, 78 CTH. When I said "big", I guess I meant by talent (speed), not size! He is on the shorter side for a TE, but 92 SPD can make you overlook many, many things. Need to hope for a good skew in ACC. If it holds similar, I don't know how he would perform and would genuinely be interested, like the days of having OL with non-existent PBK/RBK skills, will they prosper? If the ACC isn't a factor he could be a legit weapon and probably their 2nd best pass catcher, something QB Byron Leftwich sorely needs. | | 1.29 | | MLB A.J. Hawk | I couldn't pass up the opportunity to put Hawk in Green Bay. I mentioned at pick 23 I could see the Packers going LB, and there are quite a few good ones left, hence the reason they waited to take care of the position. Hawk is 22-years-old, 6'1", 240lbs, 82 SPD, 82 STR, 51 AWR, 77 AGI, 85 ACC, 71 TAK. Admittedly I don't love the SPD, especially compared to the rest of the class. He is very balanced, though, and only 22-years-old. The STR at 82 and ACC at 85 is very good. A good skew could really propel Hawk up the charts, but if it holds he has a chance to still be here this late. If the Pack don't like Hawk, someone like Chris Gocong is a non 24-year-old (or older) choice they could go with. | | 1.30 | | CB Kelly Jennings | You can expect the Broncos to find some stud in the draft, and to be honest I am surprised I didn't have Kelly Jennings going earlier, but probably because he's 24-years-old. It's a risk taking someone who only has 6 years before they start regressing, but with the athletic attributes Jennings has, it could pay off. He's 5'11", 96 SPD, 70 STR, 89 AGI, 99 ACC, he can get to 99 SPD/ACC very easily to survive those first few regression years, so that could buy them some time. Another athletic freak I think they could be interested in would be DT Gabe Watson, at 6'3", 338lbs, 80 SPD, 94 STR. | | 1.31 | | DT Gabe Watson | Speaking of Watson, the Patriots would be perfectly content taking him, even though they have a solid DT in Chad Lavalais. It's hard to pass on a 6'3", 338lb, 80 SPD, 94 STR, 70 ACC DT. I don't know that Denver would at 1.30, heck, I don't know if he will fall out of the top 20! He's athletic enough to play at DE and really wreak some havoc. Late in the 1st you may not be drafting for need and instead taking BPA, and he's got to be one of the best non-24-year-old players available. | | 1.32 | | CB Jimmy Williams | With their fourth 1st round pick of this draft, the Chiefs end up going with a CB. I had mentioned earlier that they could be content with the group they've got, but that isn't exactly an inspiring vote of confidence, especially when their defense was 28th in points allowed last year. Jimmy has the age at 22-years-old, and size at 6'2", 216lbs that would be very high on everybody's list. The knock on him would be the 87 AGI, 89 ACC. If the ACC skews up, he's a potential top 16 pick, but if the AGI and ACC are an indication of a skew down at CB, you see why he fell to where he is now. I would imagine someone would PW him and if he's still sitting here we will all figure out that it's due to a bad skew. Even if he drops down to 88 or 89 SPD, he will bump beyond that with rookie and sophomore progression, and with his size and age he would be eligible for multiple Training Camps and develop into a good starter. |
