Free Agents Who
MIGHT Help During a Playoff Run
I’m sitting here cooling off after doing some yard work and well, to be honest, a bit bored. Noone would go fishing with me, even that P whipped Bengals GM Phil Mellon so I was sitting here looking at my team, my schedule and then decided to take a glance at the available free agents. I’ve created a list of players that I think could help a team, specifically a playoff or potential playoff team down the stretch and why. *Note: This only includes players who are in the file and able to be signed.
CB Donnie Abraham
33 years old, 5’10”, 190#
Why: 89 AWR, 69 CTH
Misc: Look, Abraham’s productive years are way past him. Would he be a productive CB over an entire season? Absolutely not however in a playoff game where he is the dime or quarter CB standing in the redone ready to deflect a pass to stop a game winning score, I think he would be fine.
WR Terry Glenn
32 years old, 5’11”, 195#
Why: 87 AWR, 87 SPD, 86 ACC, 83 AGI 75 CTH
Misc, Glenn still has manageable SPD, ACC and even AGI. Add 87 AWR and 75 CTH to that and honestly, it sort of suggest he should have been on a roster the entire season. A GM can do much worse at WR4 or WR5 than Glenn. In fact, I think Glenn could and probably should be some team’s WR3.
RG Bobby Williams
30 years old, 6’1”, 340#
Why: 92 STR, 82 PBK, 85 RBK
While he may not be an All Pro, I think Williams could still be counted on to protect a QB and help control the run game thanks to his STR, PBK and RBK. His AWR, AGI and ACC are not bottom of the barrel either. (64, 57 & 5

.
DT Daleroy Stewart
28 years old, 6’4”, 327#
Why: 327# & 94 STR
Stewart does not possess all the traits to be a dominant NT however he is 6’4”, 327# and has 94 STR. If a team running a 3-4 defense is looking for an injury replacement I think a team could do a lot worse.
RT Cornell Green
30 years old, 6’6”, 315#
Why: 91 STR, 91 PBK, 85 RBK, 67 AWR, 61 AGI, 69 ACC
Hang on a second; Why is this guy not on a team? He has good size, 90+ STR, good blocking stats plus AWR, AGI & ACC are in the 60’s. Are people scared of his 18 sacks allowed last season? If so, take a look at his 2004 stats which included 73 pancakes and just 5 sacks allowed.
LG Kendyl Jacox
31 years old, 6’2”, 330#
Why: 90 STR, 72 AWR, 82 PBK, 87 RBK
Jacox, has 90 STR and 70+ AWR to go along with 80+ in both RBK and PBK. He has to be a top free agent choice for a team who finds themselves needing an injury replacement.
CB Tay Cody
29 years old, 5’9”, 180#
Why: 92 SPD, 91 AGI, 91 ACC, 69 AWR
It is not often that a CB with 90+ in SPD, AGI, ACC is sitting in free agency at week 12 of the season. If Cody were 1 inch taller he would be on a team and be either a nickle or dime CB. I predict that he gets picked up prior to the start of the playoffs.
WR Ron Dugans
29 years old, 6’2”, 205#
Why: 92 SPD, 89 ACC, 88 AGI, 77 CTH
Dugans is not nor has he ever been a star however he is a 6’2” WR with 90+ SPD and near 90 AGI/SPD who can still catch. He deserves to be on a team as someone’s WR4/5.
CB Corey Ivey
29 years old, 5’8”, 188#
Why: 90 SPD, 93 AGI, 93 ACC, 92 JMP
Like Tay Cody above, Ivey has 90+ in SPD, AGI, ACC and in Ivey’s case, 90+ in JMP too, which may may up for his small size of 5’8”.
WR Eddie Berlin
28 years old, 5’11”, 195#
Why: 92 SPD, 93 AGI, 91 ACC, 85 KR
Berlin still possess great SPD, AGI, ACC and with 85 KR, could still be a reliable KR1/PR1.
WR Reche Caldwell
27 years old, 6’0”, 215#
Why: 89 SPD, 87 AGI, 92 ACC, 92 JMP, 77 CTH
He won win you games single handedly but Caldwell still has attribites that make for a decent depth chart WR.
WR Josh Reed
26 years old, 5’10”, 208#
Why: 88 SPD, 90 AGI, 92 ACC, 76 CTH
Another player who is not going to win games by themselves but this still young WR has 270 points (90 avg) in SPD, AGI & ACC.
WR Lee Evans
25 years old, 5’10”, 197#
Why: 94 AGI, 91 ACC 78 CTH
Evans has a noticeable drop in SPD from Reed but the 85 SPD is helped by an eleite 94 AGI. This is another player that I think deserves to be at least a WR5 on multiple teams.
WR Joe Jurevicius
32 years old, 6’5”, 230#
Why: 6’5”, 230#, 74 AWR, 84 cth, 74 btk
I have looked at Jurevicius many times. His size is amazing plus he has good AWR and CTH. He would be a reliable WR in the playoffs.
WR Kevin Dyson
31 years old, 6’1”, 208#
Why: 84 CTH, 75 AWR, 88 AGI, 87 ACC
Dyson does not have the SPD at this point in his career but he still has 84 CTH and 75 AWR to go with acceptable AGI and ACC.
James Wofford
28 years old, 6’0”, 186#
Why: 86 CAR, 90 SPD, 87 AGI, 86 ACC
There is not much in the way of RB depth so that is also a reason Woford makes this list. He is not going to win games on a RB1 but with 86 CAR he is not going to be a guy who will fumble in the 4th quarter when the game is on the line when a RB2/RB3 is forced into running the ball.
TE Tim Euhus
24 years old, 6’5”, 256#
Why: 70 PBK, 71 RBK, 74 AWR, 74 STR
TE is also not a position where there is a lot to chose from. Some par tif Euhus are great, specifically the blocking followed by parts that are good such as STR and AWR. There are equall parts that are just down right horrible though, specifically 61 SPD, 66 AGI and 65 ACC. If you are looking for a blocker at TE2, he could be useful. If you are looking for a well rounded or a pass catching TE, you will need to look elsewhere.
OLB Brandon Short
29 years old, 6’3”, 253#
Why: 81 TAK plus the combo of 70+ in SPD, STR, AWR, AGI & ACC
On the surface, Short does not seem too attractive however with more investigation he ends up being a pretty decent LB. He has adequate TAK of 81 but then does not have an embarrassing attribute between SPD, STR, AWR, AGI and ACC. All of these areas are between 73 and 79. This makes for not only a good depth LB but a good overall LB.
MLB Ed Hartwell
28 years old, 6’1”, 250#
Why: 80+ in STR and TAK
Hartwell could be a decent MLB2 since he has 81 STR and 81 TAK. His AWR is only 61 but has 70+ in SPD, AGI & ACC.
MLB Brian Simmons
31 years old, 6’3”, 244
Why: 70+ in AWR, SPD, AGI, ACC & TAK
No attribute is rather impressive but they all are 70+ (72 SPD, 71 STR, 70 AWR, 74 AGI, 73 ACC) plus 80 TAK. Simmons would provide embarrassment free MLB play.
OLB Jamir Miller
33 years old, 6’5”, 252#
Why: 6’5”, 252#, 80 AWR, 83 TAK
Miller lacks STR (65) but can still hold his own at TAK and AWR, making him be a choice for a GM looking for an injury replacement.
DT Luther Elliss
33 years old, 6’5”, 318#
Why: 6’5”, 318#, 80 AWRm 87 TAK
Elliss is a veteran with near 90 TAK and 80 AWR. He can provide a team with quality play as shown last year with Cincinnati where he provided 8 combines TFL/Sacks in limited play.
DT Jason Ferguson
32 years old, 6’3”, 310#
Why: 86 STR, 80 AWR, 83 TAK
Even though Ferguson is not the player he was in 2003 where he had 10 sacks for the Packers, he like Elliss is am experienced veteran who can still be counted on for quality play.
FS Terrence Kiel
26 years old, 5’11”, 207#
Why: 82 SPD, 91 AGI, 89 ACC, 79 TAK
The talent at FS/SS is t-h-i-n. Kiel is not someone I would say should be on a roster but he was one of only a few that had 80+ SPD and a decent AGI, ACC, TAK combo. His AWR is bad. How bad, 47 bad. I could see him making a team due to a FS injury though.
SS Mike Bell
26 years old, 6’3”, 210#
Why: 6’3”, 79 TAK
Again, the talent is thin here. Bell has amazing size but that is about it. His SPD of just 75 is very concerning but if a team suffers an injury at SS, I could see him being signed.
K Kris Brown
30 years old, 5’11”, 206
Why: 88 KPW, 93 KAC
Brown is one of only 3 kickers with at least 88 KPW.
K Brent Baisden
26 years old, 6’1”, 227#
Why: 88 KPW, 92 KAC
Baisden is the other kicker with 88 that is worth having. The 3rd kicker with 88 KPW has just 85 KAC so that makes him pretty much unreliable.
P Sam Koch
24 years old, 6’1”, 222#
Why: I am trying to figure it out myself.
Look, if you are at the point where you need to sign a punter, you are screwed. Kock provides you to least painful screwing with his 84 KPW and 87 KAC.
QB Reggie McNeal
23 years old, 6’2”, 205#
Why: He is not a scrambler
McNeal is not a scambler is the best “Why” that I can provide. He does also have 90 THP and 83 THA. Those attributes look awesome compared to some of the free agent QB’s.
