2007 Draft Class – Position evaluation and commentary

QB – I tend to prioritize the attributes AWR, THA then THP… I take into consideration HT and age, avoid scramblers (unless attributes overall are GREAT) and finally INJ and TGH.

QB Trent Edwards [AWR = 68 / THP = 89 / THA = 84] appears to be the only talent worthy of a 1st round selection… there have only been 10 QBs (in 5 seasons) that have had AWR at 65 or higher (pre-skew), so this is elite knowledge of the game. Though Edwards has average THA and THP, he’ll be eligible for 6 Training Camps in conjunction with Rookie and Sophomore Progression… no doubt a GREAT option for a team that can groom him w/o the pressure of the HOT seat. Though it would be EARLY to select Edwards at 1.03, I think he’d be the PERFECT fit in Detroit (McNabb is 31)

Outside of Trent Edwards… not overly thrilled about the options available, appears to be a weak collection of players. I could see Tyler Palko or Drew Stanton being considered as options – but it’d need to be with the right team that can bring them along slowly w/o the urgency/pressure to WIN now.

HB – I tend to HEAVILY prioritize STR and BTK (equally)… I also favor SPD, AGI and ACC with some consideration for CAR, INJ and TGH.

I truly believe this class of HBs is awful… not one of them is worthy of a 1st round pick! The only guys that might catches my eye… DJ Ware could be worth drafting in the 2nd round, but he’s TIGHT in hips [AGI = 78] and that’s worrisome.

FB – The position is not worth anyone’s time any season… so, moving right along!

WR – HEAVILY influenced by SPD… then ACC, AGI, CTH and HT.

Though the talent doesn’t offer a generational type of player, there are a few guys that are likely to be drafted in the 1st round. The guy that should be selected of all other WRs is not nicknamed MEGA-tron – it’ll be Steve Smith. Off the line, no one’s better [ACC = 99] and can get in and out of cuts like grease lightening [AGI = 96]… there’s some room to work on top end speed [SPD = 91] and his hands [CTH = 78] – but he’s a starter from day one. Both Jason Hill [SPD = 93 / AGI = 89 / ACC = 95] and Laurant Robinson [SPD = 90 / AGI = 85 / ACC = 93] are worthy of 1st round consideration.
