Keeping with the idea of having Chat GPT assist with a somewhat basic review of draft positions, next I've done MLB's:
Here is the script I used for this information:
"I have uploaded the pool for middle linebacker position. I value attributes for OLB as 1- SPD, 2- AWR, 3- ACC, 4- TAK, 5- STR, 6- AGI, 7- INJ, 8- TGH, 9- STA & 10- CTH. Please give me a summary of this corp of MLB's then rank the top 5. "
I went through all 15 MLB prospects and ranked them according to the exact priority you gave me: SPD → AWR → ACC → TAK → STR → AGI → INJ → TGH → STA → CTH.
One important note: I’m treating this as a Madden 08 CPU-vs-CPU GM league MLB evaluation, so I’m putting considerably more emphasis on the first four attributes than on things like STA/CTH. For MLB, that makes the athletic profile especially important.
Overall MLB Class
This is a very good top-heavy MLB class, with several players who have legitimate starting potential. The biggest strength is athleticism: there are multiple linebackers with 89+ SPD and 90+ ACC, and a couple of exceptional speed/acceleration combinations.
The clear standout is Patrick Willis. His 99 SPD / 95 ACC combination is exceptional, and he also brings 84 STR, 84 AGI, 94 INJ and an incredible 99 TGH. His biggest weakness is AWR at 78 and TAK at 79, but because your priorities put speed and acceleration first, he is easily the most attractive player in this pool.
Behind Willis, Lawrence Timmons and Zak DeOssie are very interesting. Timmons has the better overall MLB profile for your system, while DeOssie is an absolute athletic freak with 99 AGI, 95 ACC, 87 SPD, 98 INJ and 99 TGH. His problem is the 61 AWR, which is significant for a CPU-controlled linebacker. That makes him a fascinating high-upside player but not quite as safe as Timmons.
The next tier has Jon Beason, Paul Posluszny, Anthony Waters and Kelvin Smith. Beason is probably the most balanced of that group, while Posluszny gives you a strong combination of speed, acceleration, tackling and durability. Waters is particularly intriguing because of his 99 SPD, although his 62 AWR and 67 AGI make him less complete than that speed rating initially suggests.
My biggest observations
Speed is excellent at the top: Willis and Waters have 99 SPD, while Timmons, Posluszny, Bradley and Smith are all 89+.
Acceleration is a major strength: Willis, DeOssie and Timmons all have 91+ ACC.
AWR is the class's biggest weakness: Nobody reaches 80 AWR. Willis' 78 is actually the best in the pool.
Tackling is solid but not spectacular: Timmons and Beason lead the class at 83/84.
Durability is excellent: Several players have 95+ INJ.
CTH isn't particularly important for this group, and I wouldn't let it move a player more than a spot or two unless everything else is very close.
There are some very interesting developmental players, particularly DeOssie and Waters, where the athleticism is much better than the awareness.
My Top 5 MLBs
Rank Player SPD AWR ACC TAK STR AGI INJ TGH STA CTH
1 Patrick Willis 99 78 95 79 84 84 94 99 75 48
2 Lawrence Timmons 89 77 91 83 75 88 99 99 79 50
3 Zak DeOssie 87 61 95 77 81 99 98 99 73 66
4 Jon Beason 83 71 87 84 86 81 82 89 96 59
5 Paul Posluszny 89 67 91 82 73 72 96 82 92 57
1. Patrick Willis — Clear #1
99 SPD / 95 ACC is simply too good to ignore.
Willis is the one player in this class where I would be willing to overlook his relatively modest 78 AWR because his physical profile is so exceptional. He's also got 84 STR, 84 AGI, 94 INJ and 99 TGH.
For your league, I see him as a potential three-down MLB who can cover ground sideline-to-sideline and make plays against the run.
Verdict: Franchise-level prospect. If you have a high enough pick, he's my guy.
2. Lawrence Timmons — Best Combination of Traits
Timmons might actually be the safest pick in the entire class.
He's not Willis athletically, but 89 SPD / 91 ACC / 83 TAK / 75 STR / 88 AGI is a terrific combination. Then you add 99 INJ and 99 TGH.
Most importantly, his 77 AWR is almost identical to Willis' 78.
That means you're essentially sacrificing 10 SPD and 4 ACC compared with Willis while gaining 4 TAK and maintaining excellent athleticism and durability.
Verdict: Excellent CPU MLB. I'd be extremely comfortable taking him if Willis is gone.
3. Zak DeOssie — The Wild Card
This is the prospect I find most interesting.
Look at this:
87 SPD
95 ACC
99 AGI
98 INJ
99 TGH
81 STR
That's an outrageous physical profile.
The problem?
61 AWR.
That's a 16-point difference from Willis.
Because your games are CPU-controlled, I don't want to completely dismiss AWR. A player this athletic can potentially make up for some of it, but I'd expect DeOssie to be more volatile than Willis or Timmons.
His 66 CTH is also the best among the top five, which is a nice bonus.
Verdict: Tremendous upside. If you're comfortable gambling on AWR, he could eventually become one of the best players in this class.
4. Jon Beason — Best Balanced MLB
Beason doesn't have the eye-popping athleticism of Willis or DeOssie, but he's remarkably balanced:
83 SPD / 71 AWR / 87 ACC / 84 TAK / 86 STR / 81 AGI / 96 STA
And I really like the 84 TAK + 86 STR combination.
His 96 STA is also outstanding.
The downside is that 83 SPD is noticeably below the top of this class. In a league where you've specifically told me speed is your #1 attribute, that matters.
Verdict: Very safe, well-rounded MLB. Probably the best "no major weakness" player after the top three.
5. Paul Posluszny — Excellent Traditional MLB
Posluszny is another very strong option:
89 SPD / 67 AWR / 91 ACC / 82 TAK / 73 STR / 96 INJ / 92 STA
The 89 SPD + 91 ACC is exactly what I want to see from a linebacker in your league.
His biggest issue is the 67 AWR. He's also only 73 STR and 72 AGI, so he doesn't have quite the complete physical package of Timmons.
But he's extremely durable and has the athleticism to make plays.
Verdict: Very good prospect and a legitimate starting MLB.
My Draft Board
If I were sitting at your draft table, my MLB board would look like this:
1. Patrick Willis — ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
2. Lawrence Timmons — ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
3. Zak DeOssie — ⭐⭐⭐⭐½
4. Jon Beason — ⭐⭐⭐⭐
5. Paul Posluszny — ⭐⭐⭐⭐
6. Anthony Waters — ⭐⭐⭐½
7. Kelvin Smith — ⭐⭐⭐½
8. Korey Hall — ⭐⭐⭐½
9. Buster Davis — ⭐⭐⭐
10. Oscar Lua — ⭐⭐⭐
One player I would watch closely: Anthony Waters
He's only #6 for me, but 99 SPD / 87 ACC / 97 INJ / 97 STA is extremely interesting. His 62 AWR and 67 AGI are what hold him back.
If progression can improve AWR meaningfully in your league, Waters could potentially jump several spots.
Bottom Line
Willis is the prize of this class. I don't think it's particularly close given your attribute priorities.
The really interesting decision comes after him:
Willis → Timmons → DeOssie is my preferred top three.
If you're looking for maximum athletic upside, I'd actually consider DeOssie over Timmons.
If you're looking for the best combination of athleticism + CPU intelligence + reliability, I'd take Timmons.
And if Willis/Timmons/DeOssie are gone, I'd be very comfortable with Beason or Posluszny.
My final top 5:
Patrick Willis
Lawrence Timmons
Zak DeOssie
Jon Beason
Paul Posluszny
