2007 Draft Preview: DE's & DT
By Bryan Mellon
Special to primetime-football.com

This is the last draft review by position for 2007. I did not get to do an offensive review but feel good about getting through the defensive positions.

Here is a listing of the DE's and DT's:

Here is the script I provided Chat GPT for the DE's and DT's:

"Please use the uploaded spreadsheet for the DE and DT positions and provide me a top 10 at DE and another one for DT. For these positions size may matter somewhat so extra points should be given for the larger players. Attribute wise please use the following rankings; SPD, TAK, STR, ACC, AGI, AWR, INJ, TGH & STA. The following attributes will have a +5/-5 skew while all others will have a +10/-10."

DE observations
Greg Peterson is my clear #1. He doesn't have one outrageous rating, but that's actually what makes him so attractive. He's 79 SPD / 85 ACC / 79 AGI / 82 STR / 61 TAK / 88 TGH, while also being 6'5", 286. That's an extremely nice Madden DE body.

Adam Carriker is the guy who benefited most from your size adjustment. At 6'6", 300, with 82 STR and 99 TGH, he looks like the prototype power DE. His athleticism isn't as good as Peterson's, but the combination of size, strength and durability is excellent.

Woodley is the interesting undersized exception. At only 6'2", 265, he loses some of the size bonus, but his 75 SPD / 85 ACC / 83 AGI / 79 INJ / 99 TGH / 92 STA makes him extremely attractive. If Madden's engine rewards his athleticism, he could outperform his #5 ranking.

The DT class is REALLY interesting

There's a major reason I like Justin Harrell at #1. He's essentially the best combination of your priorities: 71 SPD, 72 TAK, 82 STR, 76 ACC, 77 AGI, 49 AWR, 99 INJ, 99 TGH, 77 STA, 6'4", 315#. That is a very strong DT body with virtually perfect durability.

But don't overlook Alan Branch. Alan Branch is probably the biggest wildcard in the entire DE/DT pool. He's 6'6", 350, but somehow has: 91 SPD, 93 ACC, 85 STR, 57 AGI, 58 TAK, 40 AWR, The low AWR/TAK hurts him considerably under your system, which is why he doesn't win the mathematical ranking. But 91 SPD + 93 ACC at 350 pounds is absolutely absurd. If your Madden 08 CPU engine translates that athleticism into DT performance, Branch could be one of the most dangerous players in this entire draft.
