JUST A FEW OF MY FAV DRAFT PICKS

A few picks from around the league that caught my attention

1.2 GREEN BAY PACKERS - MLB PATRICK WILLIS

6'1" | 242 lbs | Age 22 | SPD 96 | STR 86 | AWR 78 | AGI 93 | ACC 99 | CTH 44 | TAK 80

I think this is of no surprise to anyone, as I had Willis #1 by a significant margin. As mentioned before, he was the best cornerback in the draft and a HOFer at whichever position he ends up at.

The final product is somehow even more ridiculous. 96 SPD, 93 AGI and 99 ACC at 6'1", 242 lbs is just stupid, and unlike some of the other freak athletes in the draft, he's already starting with 78 AWR and 80 TAK. There's basically nothing to wait for here.

I should have offered more and probably would have if I felt like it would've mattered. Now I get this monster to face every week for like forever. Bah. My least favorite, favorite pick.

*I see he’s already a corner. Boo. Green Bay still sucks.

1.13 DENVER BRONCOS - MLB JON BEASON

6'0" | 232 lbs | Age 22 | SPD 86 | STR 86 | AWR 71 | AGI 86 | ACC 87 | CTH 58 | TAK 83

I knew Beason was going to be a good player, but he didn't exactly fit my linebacker mold at 6 feet. Had I run a private workout on him, maybe I change my mind on that, maybe I don't. I still like Kelvin Smith's superior speed and acceleration, plus the couple of inches in height.

Nevertheless, Beason as predicted has a super safe floor, but the ceiling turned out higher than I had anticipated. He's already sitting at 86 SPD, 86 STR, 86 AGI and 87 ACC with 71 AWR and 83 TAK. That's an incredibly complete rookie linebacker.

He should be a pretty good linebacker for quite some time in the PTF.

1.20 JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - C RYAN KALIL

6'2" | 300 lbs | Age 22 | SPD 59 | STR 93 | AWR 60 | AGI 58 | ACC 75 | PBK 90 | RBK 93

I knew of Kalil's private workout and began to consider asking the price for the step up from 2.1 if he kept dropping into the late first.

He isn't the uber athlete, but he's extremely polished for a rookie and can start immediately. 93 STR with 90 PBK and 93 RBK is already starting-caliber stuff, and there aren't many rookie linemen coming into the league looking like that.

Pump a few training camps into him and he's an All-Pro candidate year in and year out. The Jags were certainly correct to be excited about this pick. There's a lot of mediocre centers out there, and he won't be among them.

3.7 DALLAS COWBOYS - DE JAY RICHARDSON

6'6" | 280 lbs | Age 23 | SPD 81 | STR 79 | AWR 43 | AGI 81 | ACC 89 | TAK 48

Richardson will probably amount to next to nothing as the Cowboys have their starting ends entrenched, but if he ever does get some reps, he might earn himself a significant role in the defensive line rotation.

He's got excellent size at 6'6", 280 lbs combined with 89 ACC on top of a good 81 SPD. Even the 81 AGI is impressive for someone that big. He's severely lacking in the AWR and TAK department at 43 and 48, but the physical potential is definitely there.

He was one I was keeping my eye on during the draft for a reserve role. After being disappointed with blind-picking Crowder, maybe I should've waited to fill that backup spot.

4.21 INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - OLB RUFUS ALEXANDER

6'1" | 232 lbs | Age 24 | SPD 86 | STR 78 | AWR 49 | AGI 76 | ACC 92 | CTH 63 | TAK 65

He's already 24 and that's a fair knock, but he can contribute with blitzes with that kind of speed and acceleration. 86 SPD with 92 ACC gives him something immediately useful even if the rest of his game needs work.

At worst, he's a special teamer and a very good backup. At his best, I think he can be a player who makes a good amount of plays in the backfield. For a fourth-round pick, that's plenty of value.

4.27 KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - MLB BUSTER DAVIS

5'9" | 251 lbs | Age 24 | SPD 82 | STR 74 | AWR 62 | AGI 79 | ACC 89 | CTH 54 | TAK 79

I think this was great value in the late fourth round. Davis has solid 82 SPD with plus 89 ACC, along with a decent 62 AWR and 79 TAK for a rookie.

About as intriguing to me is that he's 5'9", 251 lbs. I want to see what that looks like in-game. I think I might call him Mighty Mouse.

Long term, I think he has starter potential on a team that can let him develop by getting playing time early and often.

5.14 NEW YORK JETS - DT AMOBI OKOYE

6'2" | 302 lbs | Age 20 | SPD 50 | STR 78 | AWR 66 | AGI 31 | ACC 80 | TAK 81

He may have poor top speed, he might have piss-poor agility and he may be a weakling in comparison to a lot of interior defenders, but being just 20 years old could allow him to work his way into a productive starter when it's all said and done.

He's the type of player I would mess with just to see where I could get him if I were running a rebuilding team. His 80 ACC is great for a DT, and since it's the shortest path to the QB, it could work out to being disruptive. His 81 TAK is also excellent.

But what ties this all together is the 66 AWR. I'm a firm believer that along the defensive line, awareness trumps a lot and can make up for plenty of weaknesses.

If the Jets can be patient, I wonder what Okoye could do when he gets to around 80 AWR. He can realistically hit that around age 23 if he gets sufficient playing time. By then he'll still only be the age of a lot of rookies coming into the league, except he'll potentially have three years of development already behind him.

6.17 SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - DT KAREEM BROWN

6'4" | 285 lbs | Age 24 | SPD 70 | STR 94 | AWR 47 | AGI 60 | ACC 84 | TAK 58

Brown is a tweener type who I would consider playing at RE. He's got 94 STR with 84 ACC at 6'4", 285 lbs, which is an interesting combination to mess around with.

His game is lacking pretty much everywhere else, but in the sixth round I think it's solid value. I think he could definitely be a DT2 if the rest of the line is good enough that they only need the occasional splash play or pocket push he can provide with that acceleration/strength combination.

RANDOM NOTES

It was a weird draft with probably too many good linebackers. I guess it's a good thing we didn't get all these uber athletes at receiver this time around, except Calvin Johnson should've been a beast!

Speaking of which, I thought Megatron falling to me back at pick 9 was a strong possibility. As the draft approached, I realized that chance was quickly diminishing based on the chatter. If he had to go to another team, I'm glad it's the Giants. Bro's on the hot seat and I hope he gets the best of Peppers' goofy butt at corner.

Call me a hater, but I feel CB Justin Durant is just cheesy as hell, so I'm kinda hoping he fails. His AGI sucks something horrid, so it very well could. Opponents might want to have some zig-zag patterns ready for those clunky feet. West Coast-type offenses, anyone?
