Jaguars Week 12-14 Recap |
Welcome to the Jungle – "Week 12-14 Recap"
Rolled By The Bills, Taming The Horses and Battle Of The Jungle Cats
Heading into week 12 the Jacksonville Jaguars were coming off back to back loses against the Tennessee Titans and the San Diego Chargers, their next matchup would not be any easier as the Buffalo Bills have seemingly come back to life after starting their season 1-6 but were on a 3 game win streak since and really starting to heat up. This would really start to feel like it would be a must win for Jacksonville to stop their skid and really try and keep themselves in the playoff hunt after coming so close last season. The Jaguars would be the first ones to get themselves on the board as QB Jay Cutler would find fellow rookie WR Greg Jennings on the 2nd play in the middle of the 1st quarter from the 7 yard line and he would take it to the house for a 93 yard score getting them an early 7-0 lead. Hayden Epstein would add another 3 points to the lead as the 1st quarter was close to coming to a close hitting a 43 yard field goal after a 6 play 65 yard drive that lasted 3:24 and would leave only 25 seconds left in the 1st quarter. Bills kicker Nate Kaeding would get Buffalo on the board with an 18 yard field goal with 7:46 left in the 2nd quarter after the Bills put up an impressive 7 play 79 yard drive to bring them to within 7 points. That would not be where the scoring would end for the Bills though as less than a minute later Jay Cutler would throw an ill-advised pass and CB Nate Clements would snag the interception and take it back to the house for a Pick-6 trying up the game with just under 7 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. The rest of the quarter would be pretty quiet with Hayden Epstein getting a 43 yard field goal near the end of the 1st half to get the Jags back up 13-10 at the half. He would add a 32 yard field goal as well midway through the 3rd quarter after an 8 play 79 yard drive that lasted 4 minutes for the Jacksonville Jaguars offense. Buffalo kicker Nate Kaeding would answer back with a 44 yard field goal on the next drive with the Bills going 74 yards on 9 plays with just under 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and would get another one a couple minutes later after another Jay Cutler interception tying up the game at 16 a piece a minute into the 4th quarter. It would be very close until the Bills would put themselves up with HB Eric Shelton pounding it in from a yard out with 1:28 left in the game after a very impressive 8 play 80 yard drive and would be the deciding score in the game sealing a Buffalo Bills victory in Jacksonville pushing them to 5-6 on the season while Jacksonville fell to 4-7 with this being their 3rd straight loss. Jay Cutler would finish the game with 1 TD and 171 yards but would also throw 3 interceptions in the game and really put a lot of pressure on the defense to hold strong. They did try with Terrance Newman grabbing two interceptions and Derrick Johnson snagging another one as QB Kerry Collins really seemed to have started to show his age a bit.
Week 13 would see another divisional matchup for Jacksonville as they would face off against the Indianapolis Colts in Indianapolis. It would really feel like a must win for the Jaguars to have a chance at saving their season. The Colts would be coming into this matchup at 6-6 and had previously beat Jacksonville 41-7 in Jacksonville in week 7 and would hope to have similar success offensively. WR Marcus Knight would nearly take the opening kick back for a touchdown going 70 yards before being brought down well into Indianapolis territory. It would only take 3 plays for the Jaguars to get themselves on the board with WR Kevin McMahan getting himself open and would snag the 26 yard touchdown reception putting Jacksonville up 7-0 51 seconds into the game. A few drives later the Colts would match it when QB Chris Simms would find one of his favorite targets in WR Reggie Wayne who tends to have big games against Jacksonville for a 20 yard score topping off an 8 play 61 yard drive with 2:38 left to go in the 1st quarter. Hayden Epstein would give the Jaguars a narrow 10-7 lead after a 49 yard field goal was how a 9 play 74 yard drive would end and up 4:26 off the clock midway through the 2nd quarter. Late in the 1st half though the Colts would strike again with Simms finding WR Charles Rodgers on a 14 yard score to give themselves the lead for the first time in the game at 14-10 after an impressive 6 play 82 yard drive that only took off a minute off the clock very late into the 1st half and that would be how it would end. Jacksonville would come out strong though in the 2nd half with TE Bennie Joppru getting open in the endzone and QB Jay Cutler would find him for his 2nd passing touchdown of the day capping off a great 10 play 81 yard drive that ate up half of the 3rd quarter to go back up 17-14. That would last very long as the very next drive TE BJ Askew would answer himself breaking a massive 62 yard reception for a Touchdown to put the Indianapolis Colts back ahead 21-17 with just a minute left in the 3rd quarter. The Colts would get the ball back very quickly after a 3 and out from the Jaguars on the next possession and it would only take 1 play for them to put themselves up by another touchdown as Reggie Wayne once again was a Jaguar killer and would get open for a 59 yard bomb from Chris Simms for his 4th touchdown pass of the day and Wayne picking up his 2nd TD reception of the game as well. Just under 11 minutes left in the game and the Colts really seemed to be poised to sweep the Jaguars in the season series but Jacksonville would not go down without a fight. The next drive would eat up 4:37 off the clock but it would end with a LeRon McCoy touchdown reception for his first of the game and QB Jay Cutler's 3rd in the game but they would fail on the 2 point conversion try but would be within 5 points getting closer at 28-23. Turnover would be the difference in the 4th quarter as the Jacksonville defense would Intercept Colts QB Chris Simms and would go 74 yards in just 5 plays on the following drive and would have veteran HB Ricky Williams walk his way into the endzone to put the Jaguars up 29-28 after another failed 2 point conversion. The Colts would have just 1:00 left to work with on the clock when they would get the ball back and unfortunately another Chris Simms interception would give Jacksonville the ball back on the 6 yard line and HB Ricky Williams would pick up another rushing touchdown walking into the endzone again for his 2nd score in 20 seconds to seal a Jaguars victory 36-28 over the Indianapolis Colts. This would push Jacksonville to 5-7 and still would have a pretty big uphill battle to try and sneak into the playoffs but it was a good start.
Week 14 would see the Carolina Panthers heading into Jacksonville in the battle of the big cats. Carolina would be coming into this matchup with a 4-8 record and would be coming off a win against the San Francisco 49ers 23-8 at home and the Jaguars would be feeling great after their narrow win in Indianapolis against the Colts 36-28. This would be a game for Jacksonville that would again feel like it was a must win for them to try and keep their playoff hopes alive in the tight battle for the AFC wildcard. The first quarter would be a close quarter with neither team being able to get a ton going on offense with the only scoring coming from the Carolina Panthers Ryan Longwell who hit a 31 yard field goal after a 7 play 66 yard drive that took off 3:39 from the game clock about midway through the 1st. Jacksonville would get themselves on the board a few minutes into the 2nd quarter when Panthers HB Najeh Davenport fumbled the ball and would be scooped up by CB Terry Fair and would return it for a 28 yard touchdown to put the Jaguars up 7-3 with 7 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. The next drive Carolina would answer back and retake the lead after a quick drive and Najeh Davenport would make up a bit for his fumble on the previous drive with a 2 yard touchdown run to get the Panthers back up 10-7 with 4:23 left to go in the half. Jacksonville would continue the scoring onslaught that had been going on and come right back with a quick strike of their own on the 2nd play of their following drive with QB Jay Cutler hitting fellow rookie WR Greg Jennings on a deep pass that would end up being an 82 yard touchdown putting Jacksonville back up 14-10 3:36 left to go in the 2nd quarter. A quick 3 and out for Carolina gave Jacksonville the ball back rather quickly and Jay Cutler would strike deep again on the 2nd play of the drive this time finding WR LeRon McCoy on a 49 yard touchdown pass for his 2nd touchdown pass in the last couple minutes and Jacksonville would have themselves up 21-10 with 1:22 left to go in the half. Andrew Walters would throw an interception on the following Panthers drive giving the Jaguars the ball back with 53 seconds left to go in the half and magic would strike for a 3rd time in a row with WR Kevin McMahan would work his way open and get a 73 yard touchdown and would be Cutler's 3rd passing touchdown in the last 3 minutes all being over 40 yards and Jacksonville would take a commanding 28-10 lead with 35 seconds left to go in the half. Another Andrew Walter interception gave the Jaguars great field position and kicker Hayden Epstein would hit an 18 yard field goal to end the 31 onslaught the Jaguars had and would take a 31-10 lead into the half. The 3rd quarter would see the defense really pick things up again on both sides with the only scoring coming from the Jaguars and a 33 yard Hayden Epstein field goal to give them a 24 point lead. The 4th quarter would see the scoring ramp up a bit again with Andrew Walter getting his first touchdown pass of the game in finding WR Bobby Wade for an 8 yard score to bring the Panthers back to within 18 points but would only have just over 4 minutes left in the game to try and mount the comeback. It would not happen though as the next drive would see the Jaguars find the endzone again with WR Greg Jennings getting his 2nd touchdown reception of the game with his 7 yard score topping a 4 play 41 yard drive and Jacksonville would go up 41-16 with just over two minutes left to go in the game. Another Epstein field goal would end the game and the Jacksonville Jaguars would win in commanding fashion 44-16 and move to 6-7 on the season. QB Jay Cutler would have a great game with 308 yard through the air and 3 touchdowns and on the defensive side Adam “Pacman” Jones would pick up 2 interceptions on the day as well as QB Andrew Walter unfortunately struggled throughout the game turning the ball over 4 times and would be a big reason that Carolina would have trouble trying to mount a comeback. The Pittsburgh Steelers are the next matchup for Jacksonville in week 15. |

Jaguars Week 9-11 Recap |
Welcome to the Jungle – "Week 9-11 Recap"
Off to New Orleans, Attack Of The Titans and California Dreaming
Week 9 of the PTF Season would see the Jacksonville Jaguars head to New Orleans to face off against the 3-4 Saints in the Superdome. The scoring would start off very quickly in the 1st quarter with HB Ricky Williams finding the end zone just 35 seconds into the game with a 4 yard score putting the Jaguars up quickly 7-0. It wouldn't be long though before Jags kicker Hayden Epstein would hit a 33 yard field goal ending a 7 play 67 yard 2nd drive for Jacksonville and they would lead 10-0 with 6 minutes left in the 1st quarter. The following drive the Saints would answer back with a field goal of their own from Jeff Chandler bringing them back to within 7 points after a 5 play 76 yard drive with their 2nd possession of the game. The Jaguars would not have the ball for very long on their next draft as QB Jay Cutler would find WR Greg Jennings on a 72 yard bomb on the 2nd play of the drive and give them a 17-3 lead with a few minutes left in the 1st quarter. The Saints would answer back with a score of their own but it would only be another field goal just seconds into the 2nd quarter after another 7 play 73 yard drive that lasted 3:30 minutes. An 8 play 70 yard following drive from the Jags that ended in a 27 yard field goal for Epstein's 2nd of the day had the Jaguars up 20-6 half way through the 2nd quarter. Jacksonville wouldn't take their foot off the pedal though as on the next drive Cutler would find WR Marcus Knight for his 2nd touchdown pass on a 51 yard score and this game started to look like it could get out of hand pretty quickly if the Saints defense couldn't find a way to slow down the Jaguars offense. Saints QB Ben Roethlisberger would answer with a touchdown of his own getting a 1 yard score bringing it back to a 27-13 Jacksonville lead with just 35 seconds left in the half. A big play from Jacksonville would get them down to field goal range again and kicker Hayden Epstein would hit his 3rd field goal of the 1st half giving Jacksonville 30 points in the 1st half and would be leading by 17. The third quarter would be a quiet one with Jacksonville providing the only scoring with another short field goal making the score 33-17 heading into the 4th. This is where the game would really start to get out of hand. The second play in their first drive in the 4th quarter QB Jay Cutler would once again find WR Greg Jennings over the top on a bomb with this one going for 62 yards for his 2nd touchdown catch of the day. They would make the same connection a few minutes later and would have this one go for 75 yards for their 3rd long touchdown in the game. The scoring would not stop as WR Marcus Knight got in on the action again and would find space for a 45 yard touchdown reception himself for his 2nd score of the game and Jacksonville would end up routing the New Orleans Saints 54 -13 in a game where a lot of Rookie offensive records would be set and some all time record would come close to being set. QB Jay Cutler would end the day going 16-28 passing for 472 yards, 5 Touchdowns and 1 Interception. This would set the Jaguars franchise record for Passing Yards and Touchdowns and be about 20 yards short of hitting 5th on all time single game passing. WR Greg Jennings would end with a career day with 7 catches for 300 yards and 3 TD’s. He became just the 2nd player ever in league history to catch for 300 yards receiving and would also set the Jags single game yards record as well. HB Rickly Williams would quickly have an amazing day himself having 174 on the ground on 22 attempts with a touchdown. Rookie SS Roman Harper would also pick up his first career INT in this game as well with 2 tackles for a loss.
Week 10 would not go as well for Jacksonville and the previous week would as they would head into Tennessee to face off against the Titans for the 2nd time in the season. They lost their last matchup in week 1 17-44 and would hope that some of the bugs in the offense would be worked out by now and they would be more prepared for this matchup. Things would start off strong for Jacksonville starting the scoring off a few minutes into the 1st quarter with kicker Hayden Epstein kicking a 43 yard field goal to give them the early 3-0 lead against their division rival. A stop by the Jags defense on the next drive would give them the ball back a couple minutes later and would make it count with QB Jay Cutler finding WR Greg Jennigns again on a deep pass going for 77 yards for the touchdown and putting them up 10-0 half way through the 1st quarter. It would be the last points on the board before we went to the 2nd quarter but it would only be a couple seconds into the next one that the Titans would finish off a very dominating drive going 58 yards in 8 plays and QB Daunte Culpepper would find WR Tyrone Calico on a 7 yard pass to bring the Tennessee Titans within 3 points 10-7. The Titans would put together another drive late in the 1st half going almost the full distance of the field in 93 yards on 8 plays with Culpepper making a connection with WR David Boston hauling in the 6 yard pass to give the Titans a 14-10 lead heading into the half. There would not be any scoring in the 3rd quarter but just a couple minutes into the 4th quarter kicker Mark Jensen would hit a 26 yard field goal capping an 11 play 81 yard drive putting Tennessee up 17-10. The Jaguars would turn the ball over a few minutes later in the 4th quarter and would give the Titans offense great starting field position and would only need 2 plays to go 18 yards and give QB Daunte Culpepper his 3rd passing touchdown of the game to his 3rd different receiver. WR Michael Jenkings would be the recipient on this one. Another Jags turnover on the next drive would give the Titans the ball right back and former Jaguars RB Fred Taylor would only need one play to get the Titans back into the endzone ripping off a 38 yard rush to cap a great day on the ground for him finishing with 106 yards on 19 attempts. The Jacksonville Jaguars would lose 10-31 on the day with QB Jay Cutler having a rough day passing, finishing 10-23 passing for 181 yards with 1 TD but would have 3 INTs on the day.
Week 11 would see the San Diego Chargers come into town and the Jaguars would hope to bounce back after a tough loss against one of their biggest division rivals. An early punt by the Chargers should of been a great thing but would end up providing the first scoring of the game as PR Terry Fair would fumble the punt return and Eric Barton would pick it up for a scoop and score of 29 yards and Special Teams would be how the Chargers would get themselves on the board 7-0.Towards the end of the 1st quarter the Chargers would go on a long drive again going 7 plays for 80 yards eating 4 minutes of clock and HB Lamar Gordon would cap off the drive walking into the endzone from the goal line and would put San Diego up 13-0 after a missed extra point from kicker Xavier Beitia. Kicker Hayden Epstein would hit back to back field goals in the middle of the 2nd quarter to bring Jacksonville to within 7 points 13-6. The Chargers would have one last drive in the 2nd quarter and would cap off the 1st half with a field goal of their own from Xavier Beitia of 18 yards after a 8 play 76 yard drive. The 2nd half of the game would be all San Diego with neither team scoring in the 3rd quarter but HB Anthony Thomas would find his way into int endzone two different times with a drive of 4 plays and 52 yards and 2 plays 10 yards getting the Chargers up 30-6 and that's how the game would end. Jags rookie QB Jay Cutler really struggled in the game with accuracy going 12-24 passing with 3 INT’s and did not throw a touchdown during the game. He also would go down with 7 sacks in the game. HB Ricky Williams would have a hard time finding much open space on the ground getting 81 yards on 24 attempts. The loss to San Diego would put the Jacksonville Jaguars at a 4-6 record after 10 games. Play would really need to improve quickly if they would want any hopes of getting themselves into the playoffs. |

Battle Of Land and Sea |
Welcome to the Jungle – "Battle Of Land and Sea"
An Almost Full Recap
The Jacksonville Jaguars head into week 8 of the PTF season at a 2-4 record with a loss last week to the Indianapolis Colts that truly was a one sided game the whole way through and it showed that the new look Colts could still be pretty dangerous even without one of the best Quarterbacks in the league in Peyton Manning. The week 8 matchup sees Jacksonville heading to the other side of the state to face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who come into this game at 2-5 with them also being on a 5 game losing streak. They would be looking to turn this season around before things got out of hand in the season.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers would receive the ball first in the game and Jaguars Kicker Hayden Epstein would kick it off KR John Simon would catch the kickoff at the goal line and would take it out and get to the 21 yard line for the Bucs to come out and start their first drive of the game. HB Chris Perry would get the first carry of the game breaking a tackle and would pick up 5 yards on the first play of the game. MLB Keyaron Fox would blow up the 2nd down rushing attempt, shooting the game and getting into the backfield to bring down HB Chris Perry behind the line of scrimmage and Tampa Bay would have a 3rd down and 6 to go to have to convert. QB Derek Anderson would drop back to pass for the first time in the game and would look to try and hit TE Kevin Everett on a deep outside post but would have it deflected away in heavy coverage and the Jaguars defense would force a quick 3 and out on the opening Tampa Bay drive. Bucs punter David Rysko would come out and boot it deep to KR Terry Fair who would field it at the 17 yard line and would take it back all the way to the 28 yard line for the Jaguars to come out and start their opening drive with. QB Jay Cutler would drop back to pass on 1st down for Jacksonville and would not find anyone open quickly as he was going through his reads and rolled to his right to buy a bit more time but would get stripped sacked by DT Anthony McFarland who would cause Cutler to fumble the ball and it would get recovered by CB Ronde Barber and it would give the Buccaneers the ball back on the Jacksonville 25 yard line. HB Chris Perry would get a HB dive up the middle on 1st down and would get great blocking going for 10 yards and would get an extra 5 yards off a facemask penalty on rookie SS Roman Harper moving them well into the Red Zone and giving them the ball at the 10 yard line. An incomplete pass on 1st down would make it 2nd and goal and the Bucs would drop back to pass again and QB Derek Anderson would try and hit WR Peerless Price on an outside dig in the back of the endzone and would nearly get picked off by CB Pacman Jones who just couldn't hang onto it for an interception bringing up 3rd down. A tough throw into traffic to TE Quinn Sypniewski would go incomplete and kicker James Tuthill would come out to attempt a 27 yard field goal and would put it right through the middle of the uprights giving Tampa Bay an early 3-0 lead in the game. KR Terry Fair would take the next kickoff out and would get to the 21 yard line for Jacksonville to start their 2nd possession from. HB Ricky Williams would get his first carry of the game going up the middle for a gain of 7 yards. Cutler would drop back to pass on 2nd down looking to hit WR Kevin McMahan but SS Jason Shivers would do a great job undercutting the pass and deflecting the ball away and would make it 3rd and 3 to go for the Jags. Jacksonville would call a play action pass on 3rd down and Cutler would roll to his left and throw it deep for a jump ball to WR Greg Jennings who did a spectacular job keeping his feet inbounds coming down with the catch and would get 33 yards on the play. A handoff to the left would get 6 yards for HB Ricky Williams on 1st down and backup HB Adrian Peterson would pick up the first down on the next play with a toss to the right hand side. Another handoff to Peterson would go for 3 yards. DT Anthony McFarland would find his way into the backfield again sacking QB Jay Cutler for the 2nd time in the 1st quarter already on 2nd down and would push the Jaguars back to 3rd and 12 from the Bucs 28 yard line. 3rd down the Jags would try and pick up through the air and they would have FB Moran Norris lined up at WR to the outside and surprisingly the Tampa Bay defense didn't pick up up as quickly as they should have and he would end up being open down the sidelines making for an easy Touchdown pass from Cutler to put the Jaguars up 7-3 halfway through the 1st quarter. The 8 play 77 yard drive was just what the team needed after a real struggle last week against the Colts. A good return by the Buccaneers would have the ball at the 30 yard line. QB Derek Anderson would nearly get intercepted on his first pass attempt of the drive as he would drop back and look to hit WR Rashaun Woods on a shallow cross over the middle but would throw it right into zone coverage and it would get deflected away. He would however drop a beautiful pass over the head of CB Terrance Newman to WR Chad Owens who picked up 20 yards on the play and get the Buccaneers into Jags territory again. Anderson would look right back to WR Chad Owens again on the next play with a quick WR screen near the sidelines and would pick up 4 yards on the play. The Bucs would continue their passing attack on 2nd down with QB Derek Anderson hitting WR Rashaun Woods on a shallow slant over the middle gaining 10 yards and moving the chains. HB Chris Perry would run over MLB Keyaron Fox who read the run well but would not be able to bring him down at the line of scrimmage and would continue on and get a gain of 8 yards on the 1st down run. Backup HB John Simon would get the couple yards needed to move the chains again and would break a 15 yard run to the outside on the very next play getting Tampa Bay down to the 6 yard line and being goal to go. The Jaguars defense would finally make a great stand on the drive holding the Buccaneers from scoring on 3 straight rushing attempts and after moving down the field almost the whole way would have to settle and send out Kicker James Tuthill to attempt a 19 yard field goal and he would bring the game to within 1 with Jacksonville leading 7-6 with just seconds left in the 1st quarter. Jacksonville would hand the ball off of 1st down to the FB of Moran Norris who would pick up 4 yards. QB Jay Cutler would drop back to pass on 2nd down and would get great blocking ahead of him and launch a pass close to 50 yards downfield and almost make a connection with WR Greg Jennings who ran a real deep post and looked like he may have a half step on his defenders but would just not be able to haul it in as it hit off his hands for a rare drop by the rookie who is starting to put together some impressive stats. 3rd and 5 saw HB Adrian Peterson get his first touch of the day and would get a HB Dive right up the middle and would be successful in picking up the 3rd down conversion. The Jaguars would drop back to pass on 1st and 10 from their own 30 yard line and Cutler would look to hit WR Kevin McMahan but would not be on the same page as McHahan would run a streak when Cuter was expecting him to make a deep cut outside and would throw an easy pass right to the Veteran CB Ronde Barber who picked up the interception and took it back all the way to the Jaguars 37 yard line. The Buccaneers would give HB Chris Perry the rock on back to back plays and he would rip off runs of 9 and 14 yards putting them at the 10 yard line with go to goal. Another 8 yard rush by Perry would make it 2nd and goal from the 2. Anderson would fake a play action pass and would find TE Kevin Everett but it would be for a negligible gain on the play making it 3rd and goal from the 1 yard line. Another play action pass on 3rd down would get deflected and for the 3rd time in the game Tampa Bay would have to settle for a field goal and kicker James Tuthill would hit his 2nd 19 yard field goal and the Buccaneers would go up 9-6 3 minutes into the 2nd quarter. A touchback on the kickoff would set the Jaguars up at the 20 yard line to start their next drive from. HB Ricky Williams would get back to back carries but would only total 3 yards and quickly the Jaguars were facing a 3rd and 7 to go but they to this point were 3 for 3 on 3rd down conversions. They would call a play action and Cutler would roll to his right and find a wide open WR Greg Jennings and would pick up 25 yards on the play. A toss play to the right would set them back 3 yards on the 1st play of the next set of downs when Adrian Peterson would get drug down behind the line. A quick pass to the right would get deflected for an incompletion and once again Jacksonville would be faced with another 3rd down again but this one would be with 13 to go. Cutler would line up with 4 wide receivers and an empty backfield and would look over the top on the inside to WR Reggie Brown on a deep post and would perfectly float the ball over the top of the Cornerback for a 23 yard gain and Jacksonville would be deep into Tampa Bay territory. It would only take 2 more plays for the Jags to move the chains again giving HB Ricky Williams back to back carries and he would pick up 14 yards between the two. It would be 1st and 10 from the 17 yard line. Another couple carries for Williams would not find much open room and and incomplete pass in the endzone would be how the Jags drive would end though as kicker Hayden Epstein would hit the 33 yard attempt and Jacksonville would go back up 10-9 with 3 minutes left to go in the half. A good return on the following kickoff would have Tampa Bay starting at the 30 yard line and QB Derek Anderson would have the Bucs lined up in shotgun formation and would run an inside draw to HB Chris Perry who would get dropped down behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of a yard on the play. Anderson would find WR Chad Owens over the middle for a gain of 9 but would still be 2 yards short of the first down marker for 3rd down. The clock would wind down to the 2 minute warning and they would line up for 3rd and 2 and had yet to convert on a 3rd down in the game. A false start on LG Wesley Britt would also make things a lot harder on themselves as it pushed them back to a 3rd and 7 to go. QB Derek Anderson would try and hit HB Chris Perry on a wheel route towards the right sidelines but would lead his pass a bit too far to the outside and he would not be able to catch it inbounds and again the Bucs would be forced to punt the ball away. Jacksonville would take back over with 1:47 left on the clock and would nearly turn the ball back over on the 1st play with QB Jay Cutler and WR Kevin McMahan not being on the same page on a similar route that turned into an interception in the 1st half but this one would luckily fall incomplete. Cutler would find TE Bennie Joppru on a quick outside post to move the chains on 2nd down after a nice pick up of 20 yards. Passes on 1st and 2nd down would fall incomplete and Jacksonville would need to convert on 3rd and 10. Cutler would drop back and under pressure dump it off to TE Bennie Joppru on a short pass that would only gain a yard or so and the Jaguars would be forced to punt the ball back to Tampa Bay and they would take over at the 20 yard line with 33 seconds left to go in the half. A pass of 20 yards to WR Peerless Price would be all that Tampa Bay would manage to get on the drive and a few incompletions would end their hopes of scoring before the half and they would have to punt the ball with a few seconds left to go to the Jaguars. The Jags would take back over but would run out the clock and be content with a 1 point lead heading into the half.
The Jaguars would receive the 2nd half kickoff and would want to continue some of the positive things that were going well for them in the 1st half while cleaning up some of the mistakes against a team that is a lot better than their record shows. The kickoff would get knelt down for a touchback and the Jaguars would take their first possession of the 2nd half starting from the 20 yard line. A play action pass on first down would fall incomplete and they would try again to get some yardage through the air on 2nd down and it would fall incomplete as well with QB Jay Cutler overthrowing TE Bennie Joppru. It would be a quick 3rd down and they would go right back to him on a similar play and this time Cutler would drop a beautiful pass to Joppru on an outside post to the sidelines and would pick up 17 yards on the play. HB Ricky Williams would get stuffed at the line of scrimmage on 1st down on the next play and Cutler would just miss to the outside to WR Kevin McMahan and quickly they would be facing their 2nd 3rd down in a row but to this point they were 6 for 9 on conversions and a major reason why they were currently winning in the game. QB Jay Cutler would rip a pass to WR Greg Jennings down the sidelines on a streak that would pick up 27 yards and have them in Tampa Bay Territory with the ball at the Bucs 35 yard line. Back to back runs from HB Ricky Williams would almost get another 1st down but would just be inches short and they would give it to backup HB Adrian Peterson who would pick up 6 yards to move the chains and get the Jaguars into the Red Zone. Peterson would get another carry on the next play but would not get much space on an outside toss and would only manage to get a yard. HB Ricky Williams would get back onto the field and would get another carry instantly with a dive up the middle for 7 yards and would try and pick it up through the air with a play action pass to HB Adrian Peterson but was just a bit off time with the throw and he would not be quite ready for it and it would fall incomplete bringing up 4th down and kicker Hayden Epstein would come out and attempt a 29 yard field goal and would put the Jaguars up 13 to 9 after a 13 play 66 yard drive that lasted 4:43 and was a great way to start the 2nd half of the game. HB Chris Perry would get back to back carries to start the next Buccaneers drive and would struggle to get anything on either of them and Tampa Bay would have a 3rd and 10 they would need to convert and to this point they had yet to convert on any of their 6 3rd downs yet. They would break that streak with QB Derek Anderson finding TE Kevin Everett on a quick outside post that he floated up where he could catch it over the defenders in the area moving the chains and giving them their first 3rd down conversion. HB John Simon would find a nice hole up the middle for a 5 yard gain on 1st down. 2nd down would have QB Derek Anderson drop back and would be able to find WR Rashaun Woods on a curl route past the stick and would pick up 10 yards and the Bucs would get themselves into Jags territory with the ball at the 44 yard line. Perry would rip off a good run on 1st down getting nearly 10 yards and would be inches to go on another 1st down. WR Rashaun Woods would find some open space again on a curl route and Anderson would hit him again on the drive for another nice gain and the Bucs would start their next set of down front the 24 yard line.
HB John Simon would struggle to get anything on 1st down and would get stopped behind the line for a loss of a yard but it wouldn't matter as once again QB Derek Anderson would find TE Kevin Everett who would get a 20 yard catch and would have the Buccaneers down at the 5 yard line and it would be 1st and goal. It would only take 2 plays for Tampa Bay to find their way into the endzone with HB Chris Perry powering his way into the endzone and would give his team a 3 point lead with just a minute left in the 3rd quarter. The following drive would not last long though as QB Jay Cutler would end up throwing an interception on 2nd down having a bit more confidence in his arm then he should of trying to fit it over a couple defenders and SS Jason Shivers would come up with the interception and the big play right after his team would take a 16-13 lead.
Sadly I do not have the 4th quarter as my software that downloads twitch vods only got the first 3 quarters and I never realized it. So here is a quick summary
The Jags would take back over after the next Bucs drive and go 12 plays and 80 yards eating up over 4 and a half minutes to tie the game up at 16-16 with a 33 yard field goal from Hayden Epstein
The Bucs would take a 3 point lead with 1:23 left to go in the game after a 10 play 78 yard drive after a James Tuthill 39 yard FG.
The biggest shock came with the following kickoff. KR Terry Fair would go 96 yards and would take the kickoff back for a touchdown giving Jacksonville a 4 point lead and would hold off the Bucs for a 23-19 victory. |

Colts Dominate In Jacksonville |
Welcome to the Jungle – "Colts Dominate In Jacksonville"
New QB Same Colts
Heading into week 7 of the 2006 PTF Season the Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off of winning the last two games against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans putting themselves at 2 and 3 to start the season after dropping the first 3 before the week 4 bye. The new look Indianapolis Colts are coming into this game coming off their bye week and would be heading into Jacksonville at at 2 and 3 record as well. Both teams were coming into this matchup really needing a win to help make a turn around before it got too far into the season and it would become a lost one. QB Chris Simms is still learning a new offense and getting settled in as Indianapolis' long term answer as the successor to Peyton Manning who was traded to Denver in the offseason. The extra week of prep time could come in key in this game to find out the Jaguars weaknesses.
It was a nice October night in Jacksonville being 59 degrees air and only 3mph winds for this primetime matchup of division rivals and the Jaguars would put the new look Colts Offense out on the field as they would kick off first. Kicker Hayden Epstein would kick it off and WR Antonio Brown would field the ball at the goal line and would bring it out and would get tackled at the 25 yard line for QB Chris Simms to come out and start from for the first time facing this Jacksonville team as a member of the Colts. HB Edgerrin James would get the opening play call with a handoff to the right that would get stuffed in the backfield by two Jaguars linebackers for a loss on the play but would get the benefit of a facemask penalty by MLB by Rod Wilson giving them 5 yards and making it a 1st and 7 instead of 2nd and 13 to go. They would go right back to him again giving James another carry and again he would not be able to find much free space for a no gain rush. QB Chris Simms would drop back for his first pass of the day on 2nd down and would go through his reads and find a 1 on 1 matchup he linked in TE BJ Askew on an outside slant heading towards the sidelines against FS Chris Hope who he had size on and threw a great ball over the top he could go get in good coverage and come down with a 27 yard catch and would quickly have the Colts past midfield. HB Edgerrin James would get another carry with a toss to the outside and would pick up 4 yards. Simms would be lined up in an empty backfield on 2nd down and would feel the pressure as soon as the ball was hiked due to a cornerback blitz and would try and hit the open WR Charles Rogers but would not see that FS Chris Hope would float over to cover the open receiver because of the blitz and for the 2nd game in a row would come up with an interception when the Simms pass would fall right into his hands. The turnover would have the Jaguars starting their first drive of the game at the 15 yard line. HB Ricky Williams would get his first carry of the game on 1st down with a handoff up the middle that he would be patient and wait for blocking and bounce a bit right for a gain of 12 yards. He would get another carry on the next 1st down and would pick up another 4 yards on a quick handoff to the right. A third straight handoff nearly had him get the first down but would get brought down just an inch or so short of another first down but would see Jacksonville faced with their first 3rd down of the game after going an impressive 7 for 11 last week against the Houston Texans. QB Jay Cutler would do a great job of selling the play action pass and would look deep to WR Kevin McMahan but would have the pass get deflected by SS Jermaine Phillips and would force 4th down for Jacksonville. Punter Chris Hanson would come out and do something he didn't do much last week and have to punt the ball away to KR Mike Bell who fielded it at the 15 yard line and would get a few yards before getting tackled. HB Edgerrin James would get another carry on 1st down and would find a small hole up the middle to gain 6 yards on the play, he would however make a small mistake on 2nd down flinching and getting called for a false start and setting them back 5 yards for a 2nd and 9 to go. QB Chris Simms would drop back to pass on 2nd down with a play action pass and would look to hit WR Reggie Wayne over the middle who was heavily covered and would nearly get picked off by MLB Rod Wilson who read Simms eyes well but just couldn't hang onto the pass but would force 3rd down for Indianapolis. Simms would drop back again on 3rd down and would feel a ton of pressure on the right hand side from a heavy blitz and would throw a quick pass to WR Charles Rogers who was on a quick slant over the middle with a bit of space but would get smothered up quickly just after catching it and would get brought down a yard short of the 1st down and for the first time in the game the Colts would have to punt. Punter Donnie James would come out and boot it away to Jacksonville and would force a fair catch on the punt giving them the ball at the 27 yard line. HB Ricky Williams would get another carry on 1st down and would find a good amount of space again picking up 6 yards and making it 2nd and 4 to go. Another handoff to Williams broke for another long gain picking up over 10 yards and to this point had 37 yards on the ground on 5 attempts just over halfway through the 1st quarter. QB Jay Cutler would drop back to pass on 1st down for his 2nd pass of the game and would find Rookie WR Greg Jennings over the middle on a slant for a gain of 9 yards and set them up well with a 2nd and inches on the catch. Colts DT Anthony Maddox would jump offsides and give Jacksonville a 1st down before running another play. The offense again would start leaning on HB Ricky Williams giving him another carry with a counter to the left but would only manage to gain 2 yards on the play. Another run with a fake FB handoff HB toss would get sniffed out quickly and Williams would get hit in the backfield for a 2 yard loss and Jacksonville would be looking at a 3rd and 10 from the Indianapolis 42 yard line. QB Jay Cutler would drop back to pass and would look to WR Greg Jennings again but would overthrow him a bit but probably lucked out because an on target pass probably gets intercepted with how heavily he was being defended and would bring up 4th down and punter Chris Hanson would come out again to force the Colts deep back in their own zone. The punt would go into the endzone for a touchback and QB Chris Simms would come out and start the next Colts drive from the 20 yard line. They would continue to feed HB Edgerrin James and he would get 3 yards on the 1st down carry and they would go right back too him again on the next play with a toss to the left that he would break for a big gain after making a defender miss with a juke move and would pick up 20 yards on the play. Backup HB William Green would get his first carry of the game with a toss play and would break it for 16 yards and 3rd string HB Ben Gay as well would get a carry breaking it for 9 yards and the Colts looked like they could not be stopped on the ground this drive. QB Chris Simms would line up at the 29 yard line and would perfectly sell the play action pass and WR Reggie Wayne would have a step on his defender and Simms would drop a pass right to him and he would use his speed to break away and score on a 29 yard touchdown pass putting the Colts up 7-0 with just seconds left to go in the 1st quarter. The Indianapolis Colts just went 78 yards in just 5 plays, chunking the Jags defense on each one and would only eat up 2:37 off the clock. KR Terry Fair would catch the following kickoff at the 5 yard line and would take it all the way to the 28 yard line for the Jaguars to start their next drive on. The drive itself would not last long as QB Jay Cutler would drop back to pass on 1st down and look to hit WR Kevin McMahan on a slant over the middle but would not see SS Jermaine Phillips sitting over the middle ready to jump the pass and would snag the interception and would set the Colts offense up at the Jaguars 34 yard line. The last play of the 1st quarter would see QB Chris Simms dropping back to pass and looking deep to WR Reggie Wayne in the endzone but would have ti get deflated for an incompletion but would have a penalty drawn against CB Terrance Newman in the endzone giving the Colts the ball at the 2 yard line and 1st down. It would only take one more play for the Colts to find their way into the endzone as HB Edgerrin James would power his way in putting Indianapolis up 14-0 after two scores in less than a minute of gametime. A very costly turnover and penalty would be things the Jaguars would have to clean up if they wanted any chance of getting back into this game at all. The next kickoff would get downed for a touchback and Jacksonville would start the 1st drive of the 2nd quarter from the 20 yard line. HB Rick Williams would get a carry of first down with a toss to the left that he would find a bit of space and work his way for a 6 yard gain and they would throw on 2nd down. Cutler would make a good read on the slant route to WR Kevin McMahan but the ball would bounce off his hands and you could see the frustration coming back to the huddle from him. It would be 3rd and 4 and the Jaguars would come in an empty backfield and QB Jay Cutler would drop back to pass and look to WR Kevin McMahan again but would not see the rookie MLB A.J. Hawk sat reading his eyes in a zone but as soon as he threw the ball Hawk did a great job of undercutting it leading to an interception for the Colts on back to back drives and Indianapolis again would have a great starting position for their next drive starting from the Jacksonville 30 yard line. HB Edgerrin James would pick up 6 yards on 1st down and QB Chris Sims would sell the play action well on 2nd down finding WR Charles Rodgers on an outside post towards the right sidelines for a gain of 14 yards and the Cots would be set up at the 11 yard line. James would find another nice hole with a dive up the middle getting 8 yards setting them up with a 2nd and 2 to go from the 4. The next play would see the Colts celebrating inside the endzone again with a play action goal line formation and TE BJ Askew would come open off a block and catch his 5th touchdown on the season putting Indianapolis up 21-0 with 3 scores within the last 4 minutes of play. Jacksonville would need to come out and start showing something on offense to even have a chance of getting back into the game but more importantly they would need to keep from turning the ball over and making things easy on the Colts like they have on back to back drives. Cutler would drop back to pass on the first play of the next drive and make a very risky throw into double coverage but would be able to connect with Greg Jennings for a gain of 20 yards moving the chains. DT Tyler Brayton would blow up 1st down on the next play getting through the middle and getting to Cutler bringing him down for a sack and a loss of 3 yards on the play. Jacksonville would still feel a bit of urgency in the game with continuing to try and pass on 2nd down with Cutler dropping back and would float a pass just over FS Brandon King’s head to WR Greg Jennings who had some open room and would be off to the races and take it 60 yards for the score getting the Jaguars a bit closer at 21-7 with just over 7 minutes remaining in the 1st half. The Colts offense would not skip a beat through as they would work their way downfield with the first handful of plays on the next drive with James getting a couple nice runs in for 12 yards and short passes to TE BJ Askew and WR Charles Rodgers moving the chains quickly and they would be inside Jacksonville territory already. The running game would continue to be an issue for the Jaguars to stop as both HB Edgerrin James and backup HB Willie Green would rip off nice runs and get the Colts inside the red zone once again with over 100 rushing yards before halftime as a team. 1st and 10 from the 18 would continue to be the same with James getting another handoff up the middle for a gain of 8 yards. Sims would finally get a chance to drop back to pass and he would find WR Laveranues Coles on a short curl route out of the slot at the 4 yard line giving them 1st and goal. It would not take long for the Colts to find the endzone again for the 3rd time in the 2nd quarter as HB Edgerrin James would need just 2 carries to walk his way into the endzone and he would help put his team up 28-7 over the Jaguars and his 2nd touchdown of the half. The Colts drive went 12 plays for 74 yards and ate up 5:38 off the clock running it down all the way to 1:37 left to go in the 2nd quarter when the Jaguars offense would come out again to try and get anything on this drive on what turned out to be a miserable half of football for them. WR Reggie Brown would drop a pass in heavy coverage on 1st down and on 2nd down Cutler would move himself around in the pocket looking for any kind of free space and DT Tyler Brayton would find Jay Cutler again for his 2nd sack of the game making it 3rd and 14. Cutler would drop back to pass again on 3rd down and would try and hit WR Marcus Knight a the sidelines but would have the pass deflected away and the Jags would have a very quick 3 and out and would have to punt the ball back to the Colts with just over a minute left to go in the half. Sims would look to try and hit WR Laveranues Coles down the sidelines but would have it deflected away for 2nd down. A holding penalty on a sack on 2nd down forced the Colts back 10 yards to make it a 2nd and 20 to go. Simms would have issues finding anyone downfield before LE Kenny King would be able to get to him and wrap him up for a sack of his own bringing up 3rd and 24 for Indianapolis and Jacksonville would take their 2nd timeout to stop the clock and they would get the ball back one more time after the Colts punt with 51 seconds left to go in the half. A quick 3 and out by the Jags would have time punting it right back to the Colts who would take the 21 point lead entering the half and would run the clock out to halftime.
KR Terry Fair would line up to receive the 2nd half kickoff and it would get booted far enough back in the endzone he would not risk taking it out and would kneel for a touchback. Jacksonville would hope some halftime adjustments would be the key in them turning this game around and slowly getting themselves back into it. The first play on the 2nd half for them would see QB Jay Cutler fake a handoff on a play action and look to hit WR Kevin McMahan on a deep inside post but the pass would get deflected by CB Julian Battle who made a nice play to get his head around as the ball got to him. Cutler would connect with Jennings on 2nd and 10 rolling to the right and throwing back across his body to the left and a slant in pretty heavy coverage but would end up getting a first down on the play and would give WR Greg Jennings back to back 100 yard receiving games in his rookie season. HB Ricky Williams would not get much space to work with on first down with a handoff to the right getting brought down for a 1 yard loss on the play and QB Jay Cutler would end up going down for a sack on 2nd down and was having a very hard time trying to read the Colts defense and was holding onto the ball far too long putting a lot of pressure on the offensive line. A 3rd and 17 pass deep downfield again would be batted away by a Colts secondary that to this point had been absolutely dominant and really shutting down any Jags Wide Receiver that was not Greg Jennings but even then he had to make great catches anytime the ball came his way. Once again Jacksonville punter Chris Hanson would come out to try and force the Colts deep to KR Mike Bell who would make a terrible mistake muffing the punt on the fair catch and CB Terry Fair would be there to jump on the loose ball and would secure the turnover. The Jaguars would be gifted great starting field position already having the ball at the Colts 27 yard line. DT Tyler Brayton would find QB Jay Cutler for the 3rd time in the game bringing him down for another sack and it would be 2nd and 13. LE Dwight Freeney would get to Cutler as well on the next play for back to back Colts sacks and giving Freeney his 2nd sack of the day as well. Jacksonville would be looking at 3rd and 19 and were 0 for 6 to this point on 3rd downs. The Jags would drop back to pass again on 3rd down and RE Raheem Brock would blow through the LT of David Stewart and would drag QB Jay Cutler down for the 3rd time in a row and knocking themselves outside of field goal range, instead of a scoring chance Punter Chris Hanson would be called out to punt once again and would pin the Colts back at the 15 yard line to start their next drive from. HB Edgerrin James would take 1st down carry for 3 yard and QB Simms would drop back to pass on 2nd down and find WR Robert Ferguson on a deep slant over the middle to get the colts up to the 35 yard line but a false start on the offense before the next play would push them back 5 yards to make it a 1st and 15. That would not seem to bother Indianapolis that much as Simms looked really comfortable throughout the day and took the 1st down pass and would rip a quick throw to his right finding WR Reggie Wayne for a quick 7 yard pickup making it a lot more manageable 2nd and 7. SS Roman Harper would come up big on a risky deflection undercutting TE BJ Askew on a quick pass that had it been completed would have gone for a touchdown. 3rd and 7 didn't seem to be much of an issue as Simms would find WR Reggie Wayne on a curl just past the sticks to move the chains and keep this drive going. James would have one of his few carries get stopped behind the line of scrimmage on 1st down and a good deflection by CB Terrance Newman would give the Colts another 3rd down on the drive to convert on and the Jaguars defense would finally make a good stop and Simms would be forced to dump the ball off to WR Laveranues Coles who was on a shallow cross and would get taken down for a very short gain and the Colts would be forced to punt for only the 3rd time in the game. The following punt would result in a touchback and Jacksonville would take over at the 20 yard line with under 4 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter still down by 21. HB Ricky Williams would break off his best run of the day of 11 yards on 1st down and was having a good day so far averaging 5 yards a carry but just was not getting the touches he was hoping for. He would follow that up with a good 4 yard rush up the middle on 1st down on the next play. Heavy pressure would cause QB Jay Cutler to have to throw the ball away to keep from getting sacked and the Jaguars would once again be facing a 3rd down and to this point had yet to convert on one. QB Jay Cutler would continue to compound his terrible day he was having with a bad read trying to force the ball to WR Marcus Knight and would throw his 3rd interception on the day with CB Pete Hunter being gifted this one. The Colts would take over right about midfield for this next drive. A fake FB dive HB toss to the outside worked perfectly getting HB Edgerrin James a lot of open space to gash the Jags defense for 17 yards and would follow that up with another impressive run breaking a tackle and spinning away from another defender getting 6 yards on a play that looked like it would be stopped well in the backfield. James was proving why he was one of the top running backs in the league today. Backup TE Erron Kinney would pick up his first catch of the day on a quick play action pass over the middle and would get the first down on the play and would once again help the Colts get themselves into the Red Zone. The Colts would not get much further after an incomplete pass and a couple runs that did not get anything but put themselves in a spot to send out Kicker Danny Boyed for the first time for a 35 yard field goal and he would put the Colts up 24 with a 31-7 lead just into the 4th quarter. Cutler was coming back out looking to show that he was not as bad as he has looked throughout this point but his line had not done him much favors as well to this point. HB Ricky Williams would get the 1st down carry and get 6 yards out of it and then Jacksonville would go back to the passing game to try and pick up the 1st down but a deep pass that was just a bit off time to WR Reggie Brown would make it a very quick 3rd down for the Jags. WR Kevin McMahan would get his first catch of the day with a real short dig across the middle and would get Jacksonville its 1st 3rd down conversion of the day. A 3 yard run by Williams would make it 2nd and 7 to go for the Jags. A holding call on 2nd down would push Jacksonville back to 2nd and 17 and Cutler would drop black to pass and not find anyone open quickly as he was going through his reads and LE Dwight Freeney would come in and pick up his 3rd sack of the game. That sack would make it 3rd and 22 and a deep pass to WR Greg Jennings would get slightly overthrown and the Jaguars would be forced to punt once for the 7th time in the game. The Hanson punt would go out of bounds at the 36 yard line and QB Chris Simms would come back out again with a good lead looking to extend it a bit more if he could while taking down some clock in the 4th quarter. HB Edgerrin James would rip the 1st down for a gain of 20 yards getting through the arm tackles and just bulldozing his way through. Just like that they were already in Jacksonville territory and with an offside on the defense the Colts would have 1st and 5. Simms would look to hit TE Erron Kinney on a quick drag to the sidelines but would have it broken up by ROLB Akin Ayodele who did a great job getting underneath the route and was very close to snagging an interception on the play. Two short runs that were not able to get the 5 yards needed for the 1st down would have Colts Kicker Danny Boyd come out to try and hit a 53 yard field goal. He would hit it easily and would give Indianapolis a 34-7 lead. A holding call on the following kickoff pushed Jacksonville back and gave them the ball at the 15 yard line to start with. HB Ricky Williams would bounce a run to the outside and pick up a quick 10 yards ot move the chains and would try a play action pass deep to WR Greg Jennings but it would be well defended and would fall incomplete. Cutler would be very close to hitting for a huge connection with WR Marcus Knight on 2nd down with another real deep shot downfield that just was not able to be brought in and Jacksonville would need to convert on 3rd and 10 to keep the drive going a blitz off the edge by CB Pete Hunter would be where the drive would end and Jacksonville again would have to punt the ball away. A bad punt by Chris Hanson would go out of bounds right about midfield and give the Colts great field position to start the drive from .A toss play to HB Edgerrin James would get stopped in the backfield and make it 2nd and 12 from the Colts 49 yard line. That would not matter as the next play would see WR Robert Ferguson slip behind CB Pacman Jones and he would get a bomb thrown his way for a 51 yard touchdown reception continuing the domination the Colts have had all game against the Jaguars. Greg Jennings would pick up another catch a couple plays into the drive on 3rd down with a curl route just past the sticks to continue his solid day. He would get another 25 yards on the next play just getting a step on his defender and Cutler making the nice lob to drop it just into his hands and the ball on the Colts 20 yard line. Cutler would look to WR Marcus Knight on 1st down in the endzone on an outside post but just barely could not get it there as it was well defended and SS Jermaine Phillips would play it well and get a hand on it to save the touchdown. A 2nd down sack from DT Anthony Maddox would make things a lot harder for the Jags. An incomplete pass would make it 4th down and Jacksonville would attempt to go for it and Cutler would find WR Greg Jennings for his 7th catch of the game but it would be well short of the 1st down marker and they would turn the ball over back to the Colts with just over 2 minutes remaining in the game. The Colts would get a quick 1st down and would be able to sit and run out the clock and secure a big divisional victory for themselves in very convincing fashion. This was another really rough learning experience for a rookie QB in Jay Cutler and he would have to take games like these and just move on from them but also really try and learn something to improve on and keep growing and a young player and not let it get to him. This season most fans knew could be rough but you can tell there is quite a bit of frustration with the fanbase that wants to win and is not happy at times watching a team they know is going to be outmatched most weeks. It'll be interesting to see how Jacksonville responds to getting blown out for the 2nd time in the season as they head to one of their in-state rivals in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. |

Nailbiter In Jacksonville |
Welcome to the Jungle – "Nailbiter In Jacksonville"
Continuation of the turnaround?
Week 6 of the PTF season saw the Jacksonville Jaguars head to Arrowhead Stadium and face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in a rain soaked game that saw the Kickers from both sides play the biggest role in who won and lost but the Jaguars would come off their bye and pick up the 1st win of the season for them in what they would hope would be a bit of a turn around before they dug themselves too deep of a hole. Week 7 would see division rival Houston Texans come into Jacksonville and look to continue the success they would have against the team after going 2-0 against them in the 2005 season in pretty dominant fashion.
Houston would receive the opening kickoff on this beautiful Sunday afternoon in Florida and the Jaguars would get their first look at this newly revamped Texans offense who would be coming in with Young QB Phillip Rivers at the helm who was acquired in the offseason sending veteran QB Chad Pennington to Arizona. Rookie KR Reggie Bush would take the opening kickoff and come out with it but would get swallowed up at the 17 yard line. QB Phillip Rivers would drop back on 1st down looking to test a Jags defense that has been really shaky so far this season and would float a pass over the middle and get deflected away after a mis que with TE Owen Daniels who was not on the same page and would pick up an offensive pass interference penalty pushing them back to a 1st and 18 to start the drive with. They would drop back to pass again on 1st down with Rivers nearly getting taken down for a sack by MLB Keyaron Fox who would force a quick pass to TE Owen Daniels again and again the pass would go incomplete after hitting off his hands for a drop. 2nd down Rivers would get a completion finding WR Javon Walker over the middle on a dig route who was new to the Texans team this season after coming over in a trade with the Packers and he would get them to a lot more manageable 3rd and 4 to go. The passing attack would continue and again Rivers would be looking to his comfortable target in TE Owen Daniels this time finally making the connection as he came across the middle and would break open for an easy dump off that would pick up close to 10 yards. HB Larry Johnson would get his 1st carry of the game on the next play but would get stopped at the line of scrimmage getting less than a yard. He had the Jaguars number last season having 2 of his best games of the season against this defense and he was salivating at the chance to get at them again. He would get another chance on 2nd down going up the middle for a gain of 7 and it would make it 3rd down and 2. WR Javon Walker would come up big recognizing the cover too and using his speed to get deep and towards the sidelines before the covering S of Roman Harper could get over to deflect the ball away and would pick up 32 yards on the play getting Houston down to the 25 yard line on a great throw from Rivers. HB Larry Johnson would get his next carry on 1st down and would pick up 3 yards but they would lose that and more on 2nd down when QB Phillip Rivers would drop back to pass and would get taken down quickly by LE Kenny King who beat his man and got into the backfield before he had time to do anything with it. The sack would drop them back into a 3rd and 13 to go. Another Jaguars blitz on 3rd down would prove to be an issue for the Texans offensive line who would let LOLB Brady Poppinga in through the middle and would take QB Phillip Rivers down for the second time in a row for a sack ending their drive just as they looked like they could be heading towards the endzone. Texans Kicker Jeff Wilkins would come out to attempt a 51 yard field goal and would hit it giving Houston a 3-0 lead after and 11 play 48 yard opening game drive that lasted 4:42. KR Terry Fair would field the kickoff at the 4 yard line after the field goal and would get a decent return on it taking it back to the 27 yard line for the Jaguars offense to start their first drive of the game. They would really try and get the ground game going with HB Ricky Williams getting 3 straight carries to start the game getting a 1st down on a 3rd and one toss to the right hand side. Williams to this point has not had a lot of room to work with since being traded from Buffalo. QB Jay Cutler would droop back to pass for the first time in the game and would have his pass fall incomplete as he and WR Kevin McMahan would not be on the same page on what they saw in the coverage. FB Moran Norris would get his first touch of the game in a FB drive to the left but would get brought down behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of 2 yards. For the 2nd time in the drive the Jaguars would be faced with 3rd down but this time would have to pick this one up through the air. Cutler would line up in a 3 WR set and would drop back and would throw quickly over the top to fellow rookie WR Greg Jennings who would create just enough space to give Cutler a pocket to throw the ball into and would pick up 33 yards on his first catch of the game and would set Jacksonville up at the Texans 31 yard line. HB Ricky Williams would take his 1st down carry for a gain of 12 yards after making a defender miss and the Jaguars would be in the Red Zone for the first time in the game. HB Adrian Peterson would get his first carry of the game and would get 3 yards on the play with a handoff to the left. They would try to get him the ball again with a toss to the left but the Texans defense would do a great job getting penetration on the play taking him down for a loss of 2 yards and would give Jacksonville its 3rd, 3rd down try of the game. HB Adrian Peterson would make an impact on this play coming out of the backfield on a quick dig to the sidelines and would get open just enough for Cutler to hit him and get past the chains converting on 3rd down for the 3rd time already in this drive. Peterson would get brought down at the 5 yard line and it would be 1st and goal for Jacksonville. It would not take long for them to find their way into the endzone though as Cutler would drop back to pass on 1st down and would wait a couple seconds before throwing a jump ball into the back left corner of the endzone finding WR Marcus Knight who brought it in for the 5 yard score putting Jacksonville up 7-3 with just 49 seconds left in the 1st quarter after a 11 play 72 yard drive from themselves to answer the long Texans opening drive and it would take off 5:29 off the clock. Kicker Hayden Epstein would send the kickoff downfield to KR Reggie Bush who would take it out and get to the 21 yard line for Houston to start their 2nd drive in the game. HB Larry Johnson would have a hard time finding much room on 1st down only gaining 1 yard after SS Roman Harper came down quickly reading the HB Toss. The 1st quarter would end with QB Phillip Rivers dropping back to pass on 2nd and 9 and would find WR Ernest Wilford on a quick curl route right near the 1st down marker. It would be 3rd and inches for Houston and they would look to HB Larry Johnson who would get just enough to move the chains and keep the drive going. Johnson would get the ball again on 2nd down being really patient behind his blockers and waiting for the right opening and would sneak his way for a 7 yard gain on 1st down. WR Javon Walker would get his 1st catch of the day on 2nd down with a quick in and out route picking up 5 yards and getting a 1st down for the Texans. HB Cadillac Williams would get his first carry of the game with an outside handoff going for 7 yards and would get the Texans to midfield. They would continue to keep the ball moving on the ground with Larry Johnson getting another carry powering his way on the outside handoff past the 1st down marker. They would look his way again on 1st down with a quick dump off pass in the backfield that he would gain 5 yards on and make it 2nd and 5 from the Jaguars 39 yard line. The great running attack by the Texans would continue with backup HB Cadillac Williams getting another carry and would get grabbed at the line of scrimmage but would spin his way free from the arm tackle and would bounce outside picking up a few more yards and getting another 1st down for Houston. The Texans looked like they would be driving down the field again hoping to get their 2nd scoring drive of the game. The next 1st down would see QB Phillip Rivers drop back to pass and this one would end in disaster for him through as he would look to hit WR Antwaan Randle El on a slant route but it would be read well by FS Chris Hope who would jump it and grab the Interception and ending a great drive by Houston. The Jaguars would come back out and continue to try and keep the run game going with HB Ricky Williams get a carry of a draw on 1st down that would get 5 yards and another handoff right after that but a missed block by the OL would have him getting hit in the backfield as soon as he got the ball by MLB Johnathan Vilma. It would be 3rd and 7 and to this point Jacksonville had converted on each of their 3 3rd down attempts. They would line up in a split back formation and would drop back to pass and FB Moran Norris would slip out of the backfield and find a good soft spot in the Zone Coverage and Cutler would find him over the middle on a short pass with some room to run and would get all the way down to the Texans 47 yard line after the 23 yard pickup on 3rd down. The Jags would give HB Ricky Williams the ball on 1st down but he would have a hard time finding much open space getting hit and the line of scrimmage and would fall forward for a gain of only a yard. TE Bennie Joppru would come open on a quick drag route to the sidelines giving QB Jay Cutler an easy target for a short completion for a gain on 5 yards. It would be 3rd down again this time the Jaguars would need to pick up 4 yards to get the 1st down. SS Corey Chavous would nearly come away with an interception of his own on 3rd down with Jay Cutler looking to hit WR Greg Jennings but didn't see him lurking and undercutting the route but was not able to hang onto the ball but would make it 4th down. The Jaguars would have loved to be closer but they would come out and attempt a 54 yard field goal. Jaguars Kicker Hayden Epstein would just barely got it through the uprights but did give his team another 3 points and it would be a 10-3 Jaguars lead now with 4:23 left to go in the 1st half. The Texans would start their next drive at the 24 yard line, HB Larry Johnson would get the 1st down carry on a HB Draw and he would get 3 yards. Another handoff on 2nd down would gain another few yards and it would make it 3rd and 4 to go. The Texans would run a screen pass and hit Larry Johnson out of the backfield and he would get the blocking he needed out front to get the 1st down on the gain of 12 yards. Houston would drop back to pass on 1st down and Phillip Rivers would make one of his best passes on the day finding Ernest Wilford in a real tight window towards the sidelines using his size to get inside positioning and make the catch and would get to the Jaguars 35 yard line. Rivers to this point would be 7 of 9 for 96 yards but had the interception. Johnson would get a great hole up the middle for a gain of 8 on 1st down and would set the Texans up for a 2nd and 2 to go as the two minute warning would hit. An incomplete pass would make it 3rd down and they would look to hit on the screen pass again to HB Larry Johnson but a rushed throw would come out quicker than Johnson was expecting and it would hit the ground as a live ball and he would jump on it to recover the fumble but it would put them back quite a bit forcing the field goal attempt to be 53 yards. They would let the clock run down before attempting it and Texans Kicker Jeff Wilkins would get some good contact on it and it would bounce off the crossbar just barely making it over on the tough try but would get the Texans closer making it a 10-6 Jaguars lead. With 1:14 left to go in the half. KR Terry Fair again would field the kickoff around the 4 yard line and would make it to the 26 yard line where he would be brought down and the Jaguars would have just over a minute to work with. QB Jay Cutler would drop back to pass and find WR Marcus Knight at the sidelines after a quick outside dig from the slot who would get a quick 6 yards but being tackled inbounds would force Jacksonville to use their 1st timeout. WR Greg Jennings would get a reception off a quick curl route at the sticks netting a 1st down but it ate up the 2nd Jaguars timeout. The Jaguars would line back up in a 4 WR formation and would hit WR Greg Jennings again on a curl route at the line of scrimmage for a 1st down and with a facemask penalty on Houston would move the Jags to the Houston 45 yard line. That combo would have some more success on the next play hitting the same route but Jennings would have some space and would get brought down at the 23 yard line and it would be closing in on 30 seconds to go in the half. HB Ricky Williams would get a carry on 1st down and pick up 6 yards and would no huddle back to the line and in the shotgun formation and once again Greg Jennings would get himself open and down to the 5 yard line after his 4th catch of the drive. Jacksonville would take their last timeout and would come out and attempt a 23 yard field goal and it would put the Jaguars up 13-6. The ensuing kickoff would bounce out of bounds giving the Texans great starting field position at their own 40 yard line. QB Phillip Rivers would make a quick read and do a great job hitting TE Owen Daniels right up the seam in the middle of the field splitting two defenders and picking up 25 yards quickly. Daniels would go down quickly giving Houston enough time to get a timeout called with 2 seconds left on the clock and would be able to come out and try a 52 yard field goal to end the half and Texans kicker Jeff Wilkins would nail it bringing the game back to within 4 at halftime 13-9 Jaguars.
The Jaguars would get the ball first after halftime and they would want to continue a successful first half but continue to add to their lead to help hold off against a Texans team that can put points up quickly. Jacksonville QB Jay Cutler would come out and hope to continue the solid performance he had in the 1st half, not making any big mistakes and keeping the offense going steadily. They again would lean on HB Ricky Willaims early on 1st down giving him a handoff on the first play of the drive and he would find a nice hole up the left hand side going for a gain on 9 yards. An incomplete pass would make it 3rd and inches and Williams would get just enough on a dive up the middle to move the chains and keep the drive alive. A run that did not get much and a WR Screen that ended in a dropped pass would have them facing 3rd down again but to this point were 5 for 6 on attempts but this 3rd and 8 would be harder than most of the other short to go tries. They would try and catch Houston sleeping on the run with a HB draw but they were not fooled and were quickly on Williams stopping him for only a few yard gain and for the first time in the game Jacksonville would have to punt the ball away. Punter Chris Hanson would hit a good punt with the ball landing at the 15 yard line and KR Reggie Bush would be able to pick up a few yards on the return giving Houston the ball at the 22 yard line to start their first drive of the second half. The Texans would look to HB Larry Johnson early giving him back to back rushing attempts but he would only manage to pick up 4 yards combined on them and. Would be faced with a quick 3rd down but to this point were 4 for 6 on conversions. They would hand it off again up the middle to Larry Johnson and he would find a nice hole to get through and would get a nice gain of 8 to move the chains. The Texans would continue to keep the ground game going giving backup HB Cadilac Williams his first touch in the 2nd half with a good gain of 5 yards but Jaguars rookie OLB Keith Ellison would suffer a stress fracture in his foot on the play and would be out for the game and afterwards would find out that most likely he will miss the rest of his rookie campaign due to the injury. They would give him another handoff on the next play and he would get brought down at the line of scrimmage and make it 3rd and 5. And for the 6th time in a row on the drive Houston would run the ball but Jacksonville was ready for this HB draw and would stop HB Larry Johnson in the backfield and force Houston to pun the ball for the first time in the game themself. Punter Josh Bidwell would come out and would force a fair catch on his punt at the 19 yard line for the Jaguars to come out and start their drive from. The Jaguars would continue to feed HB Ricky Williams the ball with a 3 yard run up the middle on 1st down and he would prove to be hard to bring down on 2nd down breaking a tackle at the line of scrimmage and would run another defender over as he fell forward gaining 10 yards on the run. They would keep going to him again, giving him another rush on 1st down going up the middle and managing to pick up another 6 yards and would start to really heat up. 2nd string HB Adrian Peterson would also find some success getting some open room and picking up almost 10 yards himself on 2nd down moving the chains quickly again for Jacksonville. With all the success on the ground the Jaguars would wait till the perfect time to try a play action pass and would execute it perfectly with QB Jay Cutler finding Greg Jennings down the sideline with a back shoulder throw to get him open for a gain of about 26 yards getting them down to the Houston 29 yard line and it would be the first time in what Jacksonville fans hope to be many times that the rookie wide receiver would have 100 yards receiving in a game. Jacksonville would look to the air again on 1st down and Cutler would bounce around in the pocket looking for something to open up but would not find anything before RE Jason Babin would get to him and bring him down for a sack just behind the line of scrimmage. He would make an even bigger impact on the next play slipping through the offensive line on a HB toss to the left and would come in unblocked and blow up HB Ricky Williams as soon as he would touch the ball forcing the Jags back 5 more yards on the play and would make it a 3rd and 16 to have to convert. That would prove to be pretty easy as a clean pocket gave the rookie quarterback quite a bit of time to get through his reads and find WR Marcus Knight over the middle on the deep post and would put the ball out front enough for him to catch in stride and would fall into the endzone as he was brought down for his 2nd touchdown of the game and would help put the Jaguars up 20-9 with 1:23 left to go in the 3rd quarter. The 8 play 79 yard drive ate up almost 4 minutes off the clock and Jacksonville seemed like they could be in control of this game if they could continue to contain Houston offensively but they knew the Texans were not going to go down without a fight. QB Phillip Rivers would come back out starting at the 20 yard line with their next drive and would be feeling a bit of pressure to get some sort of points on this drive being down by 11 now and possessions seeming like they could be a bit limited with the way the game has gone. They would hand the ball off to HB Larry Johnson on 1st down and he would get a decent gain of 3 yards and would drop back to pass on 2nd down. Rivers would drop back going through his options and would try and hit FB Thomas Tapeh out of the backfield but the pass would go just a bit wide and lead him out of bounds and quickly it would end up being a 3rd and 7 for Houston. The Texans would drop back to pass again on 3rd down with QB Phillip Rivers finding WR Ernest Wilford for the 2nd time in the day across the middle on a quick dig route but he would get brought down just a yard short of the 1st down marker and the Texans would have to punt for only the 2nd time in the day. The punt would be the last play of the 3rd quarter and the Jaguars would start the 4th from the 19 yard line. Jacksonville would almost break a pass on 1st down for a long gain as QB Jay Cutler was looking for TE Bennie Joppru on an outside post towards the sidelines but it would get undercut and just barely get deflected by LOLB Hunter Hillenmeyer who made the great play saving the completion from happening. A second down HB Drive by Ricky Williams would go for 5 yards and the Jaguars would need to convert on 3rd down once again but to this point were 6 for 8 so far and were feeling good about their chances. They would try their luck again on play action but would not be successful and Cutler would throw a ball into a tight window but would have it get batted away ending the drive and Houston would get another chance to try and get some points on the board and try and get this game a bit closer. Hanson's 2nd punt of the day would land at the 25 yard line and KR Reggie Busch would get about 7 yards on the return. QB Phillip Rivers would drop back to pass on 1st down and would look to hit Larry Johnson out of the backfield but would just lead him a bit too close to the sidelines and he would just not be able to keep both feet inbounds on the catch and it would go for an incompletion. The would look to the air again on 2nd down but this time find a lot more luck as WR Ernest Wilford would run a great in and out route at the sticks getting open towards the sidelines and would pick up about 12 yards on the play but would head to the sidelines with a pinched nerve and would miss a few plays. 1st down saw them continue to try and really establish something on the ground but Larry Johnson would continue to struggle to find consistent blocking against a team he lit up last season. Luckily for Houston, Rivers was having a decent day through the air and would get a good gain on 2nd down hitting veteran WR Antwaan Randle El for his only catch of the day on a slant over the middle that would pick up 18 yards. The next run Johnson would have would be what is more used to seeing getting great blocking on the right hand side on the handoff and would pick up about 10 yards on the play getting another 1st down and setting the Texans up at the Jaguars 30 yard line. Another handoff went to backup Cadalic Williams went for another 10 yards and the Texans would be in the Red Zone for the first time of the day. A short pass for an incompletion and a run for a loss would set them up with a 3rd and 11 and Rivers would drop back and dump a pass off to 3rd string HB Cedric Cobbs who would pick up 8 on the play but would just not be able to get the 1st down and for the 4th time in the day Texans Kicker Jeff Wilkins would come out for a field goal and would easily hit the 27 yard attempt putting the Texans down 8 with 6:30 remaining in the game after the 10 play 57 yard drive. A good return by Terry Fair would put Jacksonville at the 32 yard line to start the drive and they would drop back to pass and QB Jay Cutler would make a very rookie mistake looking to FB Moran Norris on an outside wheel route and as it looked open for a sec LB Johnathan Vilma would bait him perfectly into throwing it and he would undercut it and snag the interception giving Houston the ball at the Jacksonville 38 yard line down by 8 points. WR Ernest Wilford would be back from receiving treatment for his pinched nerve and it would make a difference as he would get his 5th catch of the day on the 1st play with a quick outside dig towards the sidelines picking up 13 yards. HB Larry Johnson would finally break the run off he had been looking for all day as well on the next play as he bounced a handoff outside and had open space walking into the endzone on the 25 yard score bringing the game to within 2 points. The Texans would try a 2 point conversion to tie the game up. They would come out with 4 receivers to spread the defense out and would try to run it but Jacksonville would be ready for it and would keep HB Larry Johnson out of the endzone to keep it a 2 point lead with 5:37 left to go in the game. The next Jacksonville possession would not last long as they would go for back to back rushing attempts and not gain much on it. 3rd down would really need to convert to keep the drive going and keep running some time off the clock as the Texans had really cut the game close in a short period of time. A short pass that would fall incomplete would not be what they were hoping for and Jacksonville fans started to feel like this game could slip away from them after 3 great quarters of football. QB Phillip Rivers would come out again with a bit over 4 minutes left to go in the game needing to just get the Texans down to field goal range to be able to take the lead. They again would hand the ball off to HB Larry Johnson who would get 4 yards on his 1st carry of the drive. Another handoff to him on 2nd down would not get much and quickly the Houston Texans would be looking at 3rd down and were 5 for 10 so far in the game on conversions. LE Kenny King would come up HUGE on 3rd down getting around the edge cleanly on the play action pass and would get to QB Phillip Rivers before he ever had time to get through any of his reads for his 2nd sack of the game. For just the 3rd time in the game Punter Josh Bidwell would have to come out to punt the ball away and he would put a great punt in forcing Jacksonville to fair catch and start the drive from the 20 yard line with 2:34 left to go in the 4th quarter. A HB Dive up the middle was predicted by Houston and it would go for no gain but it would take the game down to the two minute warning. Another handoff to Ricky Williams would go for 5 yards and the Texans would take their 1st timeout before this 3rd down play. The Jaguars would continue to try and pound the ball on the ground giving Adrian Peterson the ball up the middle and he would fall forward getting the 1st down and making Houston use up their 2nd timeout. The big killer was a 10 yard run io 1st down by Ricky Williams that would seal up the game and Jacksonville would be able to run out the clock and narrowly pick up their 2nd win in a row making them 2-3 on the season while Houston would fall to 3-3 through 6 weeks.
It was not an easy game for Jacksonville but things looked to be getting better after their bye week and they would need to continue to build on this bit of momentum and keep trying the running game as they figured things out and get new ways of integrating Ricky Williams into this offense. Cutler also looked pretty good in this game and did a good job of not making big mistakes and really hurting them but that last interception would be something he would need to improve on as time went by as those late turnovers are usually the ones the good teams don't make and the ones bad teams lose games because of. Week 7 would see Indianapolis come into town and the Jaguars would have a chance to get to .500 for the 1st time in the season. |
