Green Bay Packers vs Philadelphia Eagles week 1

Green Bay Packers (22) VS. Philadelphia Eagles (27)

19 first downs/ 126 total rushing yards/ rushing average 5.48 YPC/ 1 rushing TD/ 370 yards of total offense/ time of possession 22.45

Top players of the game:

RB Ahman Green- 17 carries, 95 yards, 5.59 yards per carry average, 0 TD, 0 FUM, 4 receptions, 72 yards

WR Craig Bragg- 3 receptions, 36 yards, 1 TD

RT Guy Whimper- 5 pancake blocks, 1 sack allowed

K Shayne Graham- 3 out of 3 on field goals, 1 for 1 extra points, 6 kickoffs, 2 touchbacks

ILB Gerris Wilkinson- 8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 fumble recovery

ILB Jonathan Goddard- 4 tackles, 1 interception, 1 pass defelction

MVP OF THE GAME: RB Ahman Green

This was a truly frustrating week 1, if QB Dave Ragone was even decent we could have wont this game and even as bad as he played with his 38.9 QB rating and 3 interceptions he was a hail mary dropped pass away from stealing a victory but unfortunately my dime cornerback was out there for some odd reason trying to make the final catch, I've never seen that before in my life. Ahman Green was great once again with 167 total scrimmage yards, no TD's.

As far as development goes RT Guy Whimper was solid with 5 pancake blocks (the most of any offensive lineman on our team) and 1 sack allowed (Some dude named Javor Mills, like wtf?) . LenDale White made the most of his chances carrying the ball 6 times, 31 yards, 5.17 ypc average and his first TD as a Green Bay Packer, congrats rookie! ILB Gerris Wilkinson is going to be a dominant force. QB Matt Leinart came in for a couple of plays including going 1 for 1 on a 20 yard yard strike so that was cool to see. Some guys that need to get it together are RG Rob Sims, I know we were going against a top tier team but not 1 pancake block? Wtf dude. Also ROLB James Anderson was brutal to watch at times, he would run off the screen , sometimes just back peddling into open spaces, I need to get this man to the wizard of OZ so we can get him a brain...STAT! We face off against the New York Giants week 2, hopefully we can have some better luck against the NFC East this week.

Green Bay Packers 2006 Starting Lineup
*Green Bay Packers 2006 Starting lineup*

OFFENSE:

At QB Dave Ragone gets the start for the first time in his career, after the retirement of Brett Favre, Ragone was said to say "I'm looking for the men to rally around me, when times are tough hopefully I can be a calming presence for them". It's Ragone's job to lose but the young rookie Matt Leinart will get some starts as we see fit but for the most part GM Brad Barber has stated "We believe Dave is the Packers franchise QB from here on out and will be given every chance to succeed. RB Ahman Green returns to find himself as the glue that will help keep us together post-Favre era. The offense will lean heavily on his legs to move the chains and get 1st downs, oh and do all of this behind 3 rookie offensive lineman.... YOU GOT THIS BRO!!! Donald Driver will be our WR1, no surprise there and 2nd year stud Craig Bragg will play at WR2, which is probably a little bit of a surprise, newly acquired Hines Ward will play in the slot. TE's Bubba Franks and Teyo Johnson (free agent pickup) will both be showcased all season long as well, both should give us large targets, mismatches and red zone targets.

The offensive lineman have gone through the most transition as we've traded away LG Mike Wahle, RG Jamar Nesbit and RT Alan Faneca. We drafted LG Jason Palermo, RG Rob Sims and RT Guy Whimper plus added free agents LG Bary Sims and RT Tony Boselli. I fully intend to start Palermo, Sims and Whimper right out of the gate and see what happens, I'll watch closely how comfortable it's making our QB in the pocket or if someone is not living up to their draft status but there's only 1 way to find and that's playing time.

DEFENSE:

The secondary see's mostly familiar faces which is the 1 area I really didn't want to dismantle in the offseason. Sean Smith returns as the CB1 after getting injured 2 games before the playoffs. At CB2 last years rookie phenom Eric Green will get the nod, hopefully he can have the same impact he did last year. Mike McKenzie had a solid season but as we transition to our younger core he'll get the nod as the nickel and at Dime will be our 2nd rookie phenom Eric King giving us a solid mixture of youth and veteran leadership throughout. Mike Adams was the starting pro bowl FS and will be the man again this year. 2nd year starter SS Marviel Underwood gets his 1st career start, we're hoping for big things from him although this might be the first time ever I have a 5'11" and 5'10" safety tandem so I'm hoping it works out for us.

Stud LOLB Julian Peterson returns and will need to put on another show, teach all these young bucs what it takes to be a pro. 2nd year ILB Jonathan Goddard had a decent year but we're definitely looking for more. Rookie ILB Gerris Wilkinson will get the start alongside of Goddard, he's a raw but talented rookie so I'm expecting a roller coaster ride with him. ROLB James Anderson another rookie, will start as well and let the fun and hair pulling out begin. We moved stud DE Aaron Kampman to LE where he'll get more chances to harrass the QB after the trade of KGB to Philly. We picked up RE Greg Ellis in free agency who will provide a veteran presence to the DL. Another 1st year starter on defense, DT/NT Donnell Washington will start and I've been saying it alot but I'm expecting big things, he's a big dude, decent STR but his AWr and TAK are a bit down so we'll need to get those up a bit but I like what i see from him.

Special Teams:

K Shayne Graham was 1 missed field goal (He missed his only 50 yard FG of the year in week 17) away from setting the record for field goals made and that was with Favre playing so I'll be expecting the record this year, only makes sense right? P Filip Filipovic had his best punting average to date so the special teams are at least top notch for us which is a plus and I think we'll need them big time for us. Marcel Shipp who was our #2 RB last season will get first crack and return duty this season, if I notice he's bad at it then we'll look into putting Brandon Jones back there again but was kind of uneventful for us last season unfortunately.

Captains:

Offensive Captain- QB Dave Ragone

Defensive Captain- CB Sean Smith

Special Teams Captain- K Shayne Graham

Dave Ragone has alot going on since coming in late last season, he is now entrenched as the leader and franchise QB going forward and now the offensive captain. Alot is being put on his plate and he seems to be rising to the occassion but there has been alot of turnover to the team already, we'll see how he fairs once the bullets start flying. CB Sean Smith had a solid season and we really felt his season ending injury in week 17 especially in that Cowboys game where I know he would have made a difference, so he gets to captain the ship on D, we know he's up for the task. What more can you say about the special teams captain? He tied the record last year for most field goals in a season and should have a bunch of opportunities now that Favre is gone. This may be the biggest season yet for him although I'd love if he can get the record for field goals and have Dave Ragone tear it up this season, I don't think that's asking too much.

Green Bay Packers Free Agency
After the initial 1st wave of free agency where we only managed to grab a starting WR Hines Ward. The post-draft free agency is now under way. There were some better names this time around, we managed to snag 3 players who I think could help fill the gaps in case the rookies don't make as much of an impact as we thought they might. The goal is never to lose on purpose and to be as competitive as possible while giving the young bucks the progression that they need, especially the rookies who won't be starting on a full time basis (RB LenDale White, SS Daniel Bullocks, FS Michael Huff, LG Jason Palermo and QB Matt Leinart).

2ND WAVE OF FREE AGENCY:

RE Greg Ellis 6'6" 271 LBS.
SPD 74 STR 80 AWR 76 AGI 73 ACC 75 TAK 81

Ellis will come in and start right away at RE for us immediately. He provides a spark at the position now that Aaron Kampman has moved to LE. Now with a savvy veteran like Ellis at the other end it should balance out the DL. I normally would like to have a 300+ lbs. RDE but as I was starting to find out playing KGB, I'm not so sure size is all that much of a factor in schemes I think it's more the attributes of the player and possibly AWR as well but who really knows? Not me that's for sure. I do feel much better defensively now that Ellis will be inserted into the lineup though , that much i do know for sure.

RT Tony Boselli 6'7" 324 LBS.
SPD 50 STR 84 AWR 86 AGI 56 ACC 62 PBK 88 RBK 88

If newly drafted RT Guy Whimper is getting or QB's killed every other game or if injury occurs anywhere along the OL, this guy can more than hold his own even at his advanced age. His best season was with the Jacksonville Jaguars where he had 83 pancake blocks and 10 sacks allowed.

LG Barry Sims 6'5" 300 LBS.
SPD 57 STR 84 AWR 85 AGI 54 ACC 65 PBK 88 RBK 88

Sims will be in the lineup at times during the season for sure and will also be insurance not only if Palermo has a rough rookie campaign but also in case of injuries to either starting G he can come right in and be a top tier offensive lineman for us if needed in any scenario.

Training Camp, Rookies, jersey #/ position changes
The rookies have all been selected in the 2006 PTF Draft, they had their day either eleted to be selected or pissed that they fell so far in the draft but now it's time for those guys to get to work. The Green Bay Packers and GM Brad Barber made 9 selections in this years draft class and we expect all of them to start in some capacity this season.

Here are my expectations from each rookie drafted:

QB Matt Leinart- 2.32 6'5" 227 lbs. (73 OVR)
Matt was brought in to compete for the starting job which is Dave Ragones job to lose. He will get several starts this season to reach his rookie thresholds, I don't expect him to dominate or win games (both would be awesome) but I want to see competitive play from him and not throw balls into the feets of defenders. Leinart only has 58 AWR so I'm not expecting a ton out of him but progression will be key, if Ragone looks like he's the answer throughout the season then Leinart could be on the block as early as next season and will at least be progressed nicely since this is a transition year anyways. I think an Andrew Walter (CAR) type of projection is more doable for Leinart in year 1 with 1,000 passing yards, 10-12 TD, 8-10 INT seem like a more realistic season with his AWR and the fact that he won't get a full season.

RB LenDale White- 3.31 6'0" 235 lbs. (68 OVR)
This might be an uphill battle for me but we'll see, I don't think I've ever taken on a rookie RB with only 65 BTK and started him in some capacity. We're going to see what BTK actually means because I really like White in general and he has a bunch of potential. I know I'll get frustrated if I see him fall down immediately after barely being touched so hopefully that's not the case. We'll be splitting carries 50/50 between him and Ahman Green throughout the season so White will have plenty of opportunity. I'd think he'd be more along the lines of HB Brandon Jacobs (DET), I'm expecting about 600-700 yards rushing 4-6 TD, 4.2 YPC average.

RG Rob Sims- 1.29 6'3" 312 lbs. (73 OVR)
I think Sims could have one of the best rookie years as he is very athletic but just needs to work on the blocking, mainly pass blocking and his AWR. So I think what I'm going to do is start him immediately at RG and put every bit of progression he gets into PBK this season, then work on both AWR/RBK next season. I like everything about this pick and I think once he starts getting more AWR and the blocking up he's going to be a dominant OL for a decade or at least that's the hope. I'm expecting 35-45 PAN blocks/5-7 sacks allowed seems about right in year 1.

RT Guy Whimper- 2.13 6'5" 315 lbs. (71 OVR)
Like Sims I think Whimper could be in line to have a solid season but we also have to be realistic. Looking at the RT last year that started Michael Roos 66 PAN/7 sacks allowed, Adam Terry- 43 PAN/5 sacks allowed and both of those prospects were more athletic than Whimper so I look at round 2 and see a player like the Atlanta Falcons selected in RT Rob Pettite- 50 PAN/12 sacks allowed will most likely be more on par with this prospect. I'll be expecting 45-55 PAN blocks and 7-12 sacks allowed.

LG Jason Palermo- 4.5 6'4" 305 lbs. (73 OVR)
Palermo is the wildcard here, he's not exceptional in any major category and although he will get playing time I'm still not sure how much. He has talent but is a little light in the loafers for my taste and isn't overly strong or athletic but has potential but will definitely get his thresholds each progression period and I'll guess we'll wait and see how well he does but of the 3 OL drafted I have the least faith in him which means he's almost definitely going to have the most productive season of all the OL drafted no doubt. I'm expecting about 30+ PAN blocks/5-6 sacks allowed.

ILB Gerris Wilkinson- 1.21 6'3" 231 lbs. (67 OVR)
Wilkinson I already know is going to drive me insane all season long, he's going to have games where he dominates but I think for the most part he'll have games where he whiffs on tackles or is out of position, late to a tackle because of all of his raw football IQ. He will start immediately at weakside inside linebacker or the Will LB which is typically the more athletic of the 2 but both will most likely have some issues in coverage with their football awareness but all progression will go towards his AWR since he's already an athletic freak of nature. I'm expecting around 60 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 INT on the season.

OLB James Anderson- 1.23 6'2" 235 lbs. (70 OVR)
I'm expecting big things out of Anderson year 1, he has Derrick Johnson (KC) type of athletic ability but dumber than a rock but will it make him have less of an impact getting to the QB? I have no clue. Johnson had 80 tackles, 8 TFL, 9 sacks and an INT as a rookie with less STR but also with a ton more AWR. Will his AWR make him so dumb he forgets how to rush the QB? Man I really hope not or I'm screwed Very Happy . I'm expecting his rookie year to be about 60-70 tackles, 5-7 TFL, 6-8 sacks, 1 INT seems like a possibility.

SS Daniel Bullocks- 4.11 6'0" 212 lbs. (69 OVR)
There are no guarantees that SS Marviel Underwood is the answer at S for us and we'll have no hesitation throwing in Bullocks if he struggles as we have absolutely nothing to lose this season. He'll get some looks for sure in games to meet the threshold but he won't be the starter immediately but adds solid depth for us or in case of an injury. My expectation is about 15-25 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 INT.

FS Michael Huff- 4.17 6'0" 211 lbs. (72 OVR)
Michael Huff is solid depth but will have a really hard time making it into the starting role at FS due to the fact that pro bowler Mike Adams is standing in his way. He'll be called upon on if Adams is injured, he'll be excellent depth for us though and should be excellent on special teams as well.

* TRAINING CAMP *

Training camp has begun and the annual bike rides have commenced here in Lambeau Field, there will be many competitive battles this year but here are 8 camp battles to keep an eye on.

QB Dave Ragone (+2 AWR/+1 THA)
He's been looking very sharp early and often in this years camp. zinging dimes all over the field. He floated a sweet touch pass to newly acquired veteran WR Hines Ward for a nice double tap TD in the corner of the end zone. He's also loving the massive TE combo of 6'6" Bubba Franks and 6'7" Teyo Johnson both have been mismatches getting first down after 1st down with Ragone so far in camp showing nice tough on the ball as well as improved accuracy, his football IQ and accuracy seemed to be improving.

RB Ahman Green (+1 SPD/+1 AGI/+1 ACC)
Ahman Green every year this time in training camp seems to be bigger, stronger and faster as his workouts in the offseason are legendary. He works with a dietician in the offseason to improve his body overall making him leaner, stronger and not losing anything speed-wise during the season. He has come into camp in peak shape, really see the cardio as his legs look like tree trunks and his cuts are breaking kids ankles out there, you can also see him explode through the holes with power and conviction, the rookie OL are in awe of him as you can see it on their faces.

WR Craig Bragg (+1 SPD/+1 AGI/+1 ACC)
Bragg had a solid rookie season coming in when Javon Walker got injured and Brett Favre/Dave Ragone loved throwing him the ball as he finished the season with over 1K yards and 6 TD. That was last year and this is a new start for the sophmore who will be the starter alongside of Driver for much of the season while newly aquired Hines Ward will play mostly in the slot. Bragg comes into camp full of piss and vinegar, he was getting chippy with CB Eric Green and even got into a bit of a scuffle between them which you love to see that type of competition. Bragg looks even faster than last season, he's making guys miss after first contact and has a long TD catch of 67 yards from rookie QB Matt Leinart burning veteran corner Mike Mckenzie on a sick juke then took it to the house.

OC Chance Pearce (+1 STR/+1 AGI/+1 ACC)
Chance started for the first time last season and did quite well with 42 PAN blacks to only 3 sacks allowed. He told us in the offseason he wanted to get even stronger and quicker on his feet which, he said that at least 2 of those sacks he allowed were power moves pushing him back and wanted to work on his pwer and technique both look increasingly better watching him early on in camp. He's handled both Robaire Smith and Donnell Washington very nicely.

LE Aaron Kampman (+1 SPD/+1 AGI/+1 ACC)
Kampman has come into Kamp looking strong and hungry which we were hoping for once we traded away fan favorite Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila to the Eagles. He gets the start at LE for the first time where I think he'll dominante with his athletic ability and STR combo we shouldn't lose a beat there. He's really been showing rookie RT Guy Whimper what it's like to be a pro as he has beat him several times off the edge but inderstandable from a veteran like Kampman who's seen it all at this stage of the game, we're expecting big things from him this season.

ILB Jonathan Goddard (+1 SPD/+1 STR/+1 ACC)
His offseason regiment was givien to him once the Packers were knocked out of the playoffs. His assignment was to get stronger, shed some pounds so you can get faster and hit the cardio to give you more burst. he's done everything the strength and conditioning coahes have asked and it looks like it's paying off. He looks much faster in year 2 which is making him hit the hole with more anticipation. He definitely looks more powerful, I saw him lock up with G Jason Palermo, shed the tackle then burst to RB Ahman Green in the backfield for an awesome TFL.

CB Sean Smith (+1 SPD/+1 AGI/+1 ACC)
You can tell Sean Smith is still pissed that he got injured right before the playoffs started and didn't get to showcase his shutdown ability. Well he's completely looked like he's recovered from injury and looks really fast out there. He looked like he was beat by Donald Driver on the play, made his head pivot to the left then came back to the right, turned his head and picked off a well thrown but incredible INT from Dave Ragone and is really looking sharp heading into the season. It also looks like he's been doing some cardio in his off time because he totally read a Matt leinart pass the should have been a pick 6 but dropped it, the break on the ball that he made was what you see from all the elite corners in the league.

K Shayne Graham (+2 AWR/+1 KPW)
Just when you think there was nothing Graham could possibly do to improve on his leg that was absolutely money all season long only missing on his last FG of the season which would have been a record breaker for most FG's made in a season. His calves look like he has 2 bowling balls in them, he was drilling kicks from 75 yards out with no issues whatsoever so this could be the best season he's ever had in his career which would be hard to top last season.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* POSITION CHANGES *

DE Aaron Kampman
Kampman has moved from RE to LE, his power and speed are going to be an excellent addition as a pass rusher and run stuffer. After the trade of KGB the hope here is that there will be little to no drop off in production as we lose a little bit of athletic ability but we gain strength and tackling, hopefully those will be enough to offset the rest but we're about to find out.

OLB Julian Peterson
Julian Peterson moves from LOLB to ROLB which the hope here is that Peterson will be a stud no matter which spot he plays at and we only hope we don't lose the production that he had last season which he shouldn't because Rosevelt Colvin had 10 sacks in that same position last year. Rookie James Anderson gets the nod at LOLB since it's less of a thinking position and more just rushing the passer which Anderson should excel at year 1.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* JERSEY # CHANGES *

WR Hines Ward
At this stage of his career, veteran WR Hines Ward gets what he wants and he sticks with #86 here in Green Bay.

All Rookies: QB Matt Leinart, RG Rob Sims, RT Guy Whimper, LG Jason Palermo, RB LenDale White, OLB James Anderson, ILB Gerris Wilkinson, FS Michael Huff and SS Daniel Bullocks
All rookies have either taken on their college jersey numbers or numbers from that other practice league called the NFL or the "No Fun League" as many like to call it.

2006 Green Bay Packers Draft Class
2006 Green Bay Packers Draft Class

DAY 1 (ROUND 1)

1.21- ILB Gerris Wilkinson
HT: 6'3"
WT: 231 lbs.
AGE: 23
COLLEGE: Georgia Tech
OVR: 67
PRIVATE WORKOUT:
SPD 86 STR 85 AWR 49 AGI 84 ACC 87 CTH 58 TAK 75
+1 AWR, -8 AGI, -1 ACC, -6 CTH

Wilkinson is a blend of sideline to sideline speed mixed with brute force, he's going to be a straight up beast in this defense, by his sophmore progression he'll be an 87 SPD/86 STR/ 86 AGI/ 89 ACC quarterback of the middle of our defense for hopefully a good 12 seasons which only 1 other player currently comes up and it's Jonathan Vilma of the Texans with his power to shed tackles and speed to chase down runningbacks plus light up quarterbacks. Him and Goddard are going to be a menace in a year or 2, I say that because of his 49 AWR which isn't ideal but we'll focus just on bringing it up during all progression periods. The AGI going down isn't a concern at all because I think it's meaningless for a LB but that's just my personal opinion. I think he's going to be a game changer once that AWR starts going up and paired with Goddard, Peterson and another newly acquired rookie LB, this defense is going to be flying, maybe even right off the screen with how low the AWR is at least at first.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.23- OLB James Anderson
HT: 6'2"
WT: 235 lbs.
AGE: 23
COLLEGE: Virginia Tech
OVR: 70
PRIVATE WORKOUT:
SPD 89 STR 79 AWR 42 AGI 88 ACC 88 CTH 60 TAK 65
-2 SPD, +2 STR, +2 AWR, +4 AGI, -4 ACC, +1 TAK

My thought process with Anderson was that I won't have to do a single thing to Anderson after I draft him accept put all progression points to the AWR and the TAK from here on out with him because his athleticism is through the roof, after receiving rokkie and sophmore progression he'll be an 90 SPD/ 80 STR/ 90 AGI/ 90 ACC stud which puts him in the conversation with EJ Henderson, yes he'll still be dumber than a box of rocks but soley focusing on 2 attributes is doable, WE HOPE!. I'm going to say they struggle this year why they work on getting smarter but by next season they be breaking bodies out there once they all gel together. The plan is to leave Anderson at LOLB just to rush the passer and we'll switch Julian Peterson to ROLB where he has the AWR to shadow tightends and runningbacks and Anderson can just concentrate on jacking up QB's.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.23- RG Rob Sims
HT: 6'3"
WT: 312 lbs.
AGE: 23
COLLEGE: Ohio State
OVR: 73
PRIVATE WORKOUT:
SPD 60 STR 91 AWR 51 AGI 66 ACC 76 PBK 76 RBK 83
+1 STR, -4 AWR, -1 AGI, +6 ACC, -2 RBK

Sims is a plug and play RG who will take over for Jamar Nesbit. Hopefully he'll be a decade long starter for us and not surprising only 1 of 3 other offensive lineman taken in the 1st round, the other 2 being OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson taken 1.6 (NYJ) and LT Winston Justice taken 1.25 (BAL). His athletic ability is top tier but will now have to work on his PBK at the next level. His 90+ STR is really excting also, he should be one of those pile movers even with the low pass block, we'll work on that immediately starting after the preseason games then throughout the season. I prefer OL with more meat on their bones but he has enough size to be effective , if not his athleticism should make up for it. So far I'm happy how things fell to us and look forward to day #2 of the draft. It was frustrating to see his AWR. AGI and blocking go down a bit but overall I think he's going to be a top tier offensive lineman byt the time he calls it quits.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY 2 (ROUND 2-3)

2.13- RT Guy Whimper
HT: 6'5"
WT: 315 lbs.
AGE: 23
COLLEGE: East Carolina
OVR: 71
PRIVATE WORKOUT:
SPD 63 STR 94 AWR 54 AGI 55 ACC 72 PBK 81 RBK 79
+2 SPD, -4 AWR, -2 ACC, +2 PBK, -2 RBK

I was a bit surprised to see Whimper still on the board here, with the need for quality offensive lineman I think we got a solid starter for a mid 2nd. We'll give him a go at RT and see what he can do, I don't usually like starting more than 1 rookie on the OL at a time but after that year in the MFL where I started 3 rookies for Pittsburgh and made it to the divisional round of the playoffs with a rookie Eli Manning also I feel like it's not unheard of. I really liked Whimpers SPD, I was watching my games, especially pitch plays to my RB, he'd always get destroyed in the backfield so I wanted to get faster, his 94 STR was also awesome to see but will need to work on that blocking at the PTF level if he's going to make a name for himself on this roster. I'm really liking how the board has fallen for us, many of the defensive/offensive needs have been filled.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.32- QB Matt Leinart
HT: 6'5"
WT: 227 lbs.
AGE: 23
COLLEGE: USC
OVR: 73
PRIVATE WORKOUT:
STR 57 AWR 58 BTK 53 THP 92 THA 85 INJ 99 TGH 98
+2 STR, -6 BTK, +2 THP, +2 PBK, +9 TGH
*Traded 2007 2nd round pick (GB), 4.27 for 2.32, 2007 4th round pick (ATL)*

I was looking at QB's in this class with intrigue but thought for sure with many QB needy teams that there was no way any would fall in round 2 but i couldn't wait any longer. There is no guarantee that Dave Ragone is the man at QB, of course we hope he is and if he's playing lights out then we get some playing time in for Leinart in a few games to progress him along and see if we can deal him. If Ragone isn't the answer then the 6'5" 227 lbs. Leinart will get every opportunity to see if he is the next franchise QB. Either way I think it was excellent value and too good to pass up here. His AWR isn't ideal as you'd like to start off it the 60's but I'm not sure if Young or Cutler AWR skewed up much higher. He has a strong arm that will be at 92 by the start of next season and decent starting THA, I think there's alot to like here. We traded our future 2nd (GB) and 4.27 to the Falcons for this pick a Atlanta's future 4th (ATL), well worth the price of admission if he becomes mine or someone elses starter.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.32- RB LenDale White
HT: 6'0"
WT: 235 lbs.
AGE: 22
COLLEGE: USC
OVR: 68
PRIVATE WORKOUT:
SPD 87 STR 76 AWR 51 AGI 83 ACC 86 CTH 57 CAR 74 BTK 65
-4 SPD, +7 STR, -4 AWR, +2 AGI, -2 ACC, +9 CTH, -2 BTK

We've been looking for a backup behind Ahman Green since we let RB Najeh Davenport walk in free agency 2 seasons ago. We picked up Marcell Shipp in a trade with Buffalo but he's been disappointing. I'm not sure what White can bring to the table but I think he'll get plenty of chances to tote the rock behind Green unless he's showing to be a major liability back there. He'll be at 88 SPD/ 77 STR/ 85 AGI/ 88 ACC/ 76 CAR/ 68 BTK by the end of his sophmore progression and only 22 years old. I think he has starter potential if we put in the work which I think I'll be working to do by splitting carries with Green.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY 3 (ROUND 4)

4.3- LG Jason Palermo
HT: 6'4"
WT: 305 lbs.
AGE: 23
COLLEGE: Wisconsin
OVR: 73
PRIVATE WORKOUT:
SPD 65 STR 88 AWR 52 AGI 55 ACC 68 PBK 82 RBK 81
-9 SPD, +2 AWR, +1 AGI, -3 PBK, +2 RBK

The -9 in SPD is a bummer but he has starter quality traights, I'm not sure i want to start 3 rookies along the offensive line right out of the gate so we'll see if there are any upgrades in FA that could start a year or 2 while Palermo learns the ropes a bit. We came into the draft needing a RT, RG and LG and we've filled each spot with what I thought were quality players or at the very least depth players. Palermo doesn't have the size I usually like for the position and under 90 STR isn't ideal but I really like his 65 SPD, 68 ACC to go with his average blocking.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4.11- SS Daniel Bullocks
HT: 6'0"
WT: 212 lbs.
AGE: 23
COLLEGE: Nebraska
OVR: 69
PRIVATE WORKOUT:
SPD 83 STR 68 AWR 51 AGI 85 ACC 85 CTH 54 JMP 86 TAK 77
+2 SPD, -6 STR, +1 AWR, -8 AGI, -3 ACC, -3 JMP

The skew was not so favorable to Daniel Bullocks and this was a blind pick as I just ran out of private workouts but is quality depth behind SS Marviel Underwood who will get the start this season alongside last years phenom FS Mike Adams. Bullocks is a solid tackler but will find it difficult to get a starting role unless an injury occurs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4.17- FS Michael Huff
HT: 6'0"
WT: 211 lbs.
AGE: 23
COLLEGE: Texas
OVR: 72
PRIVATE WORKOUT:
SPD 85 STR 62 AWR 52 AGI 89 ACC 89 CTH 61 JMP 88 TAK 66
+3 SPD, -8 STR, -4 AWR, -5 AGI, +4 ACC, -3 CTH, -2 JMP, -2 TAK

Huff is definitely more workable, ending through his sophmore progression with 86 SPD, 91 AGI, 91 ACC with his TAK and CTH also seeing an increase so I like him even in a backup role he's a solid addition. A +2 more in SPD would have been ideal but it's hard not to like this player especially after taking him with no workout at all. As an added bonus he's also a pretty solid kick/punt returner which we had alot of success with Darren Sharper there last season so we might take a test run to see how that goessince hisAGI/ACC are pretty decent he might just surpise us.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Traded 4.21 for TE Teyo Johnson
HT: 6'7"
WT: 260 lbs.
AGE: 25
COLLEGE: Stanford
OVR: 81
MEASURABLES:
SPD 77 STR 76 AWR 67 AGI 81 ACC 80 CTH 79 BTK 61 PBK 55 RBK 54

It's like I'm looking at a clone of my current TE Bubba Franks who just earned his 3rd consecutive trip to the pro bowl again this past season. Johnson also has something that Franks has never done in his career, which was go over 800+ yards in a season. It's going to be a thing of beauty watching both 6'6" 263 lbs. Franks and 6'7" Teyo Johnson on the same field together especially in the redzone, good lord and good luck covering those 2 monsters! I'm excited to see how they can both compliment each other not only in the pass game but also blocking. We'll put him up as our match eligible next season and hopefully he'll be a re-sign.

*CONCLUSION*

Another draft in the books, I had a blast once again! Everyone seemed dialed in for this 1, it's always cool to see the GM's on who can't always be on all the time like me, guys like Rock Hewko, Bill Ryan, Felipe Santos and miss hearing the draft coverage from Neal Wintermute as well which was always insightful so it was great seeing those guys on. Was it just me or was this draft the most competitive draft to date? I didn't see any picks that went in the 1st round that weren't in someones mock draft article, not a single 1.

As for my draft we had alot of holes on the roster after trading several pieces away, it was part 1 of the rebuild and I loved the way the board fell for us. We were looking to add to the defense with speed and get younger which we did both. Although it's not like you get slower and older in the draft but maybe more top tier speed is what I mean. I'm fully prepared to be disappointed that my LB's aren't getting to the QB or whiffing tackles because they're very raw, dumb and not great tacklers yet so I'll need to work on both at a time, AWR is very important but so it being able to stuff a RB behind the line of scrimmage.

I'm also curious to see how well QB Dave Ragone plays because if he struggles we will not hesitate to put the 6'5" Matt Leinart in the lineup, we literally have nothing to lose this season as we transition our roster. RB Ahman Green is getting up there in age so we wanted a bruising back and to our surprise there wasn't many to choose from so landing RB LanDale White (or LanWhale White as some GM called him LOL) at the bottom of the 3rd round (3.31) was awesome, he also skewed up to 76 STR which I was thrilled with now we'll just put everything into his BTK which is gross and his CAR which is usually typical for a rookie back. Not only did we work on the defense but it appears we found our offensive lineman of the future, I thought this draft class had sneaky good OL talent, a couple top tier guys and a bunch of solid starters in my opinion. RG Rob Sims will start immediately at RG for us as will RT Guy Whimper also at RT, if Whimper struggles I'll then think of flip flopping him and Chad Clifton. I traded up in the 4th round to select LG Jason Palermo, he definitely has starter potential but I'll be honest, I don't know if I have the balls to start all 3, we'll see. Even though we have nothing to lose I'd rather not get my QB's killed either.

Finally, we end with a few secondary picks and unfortunately at this point we didn't have any private workouts left to use so we winged it the best we could. Turns out both are solid depth selections but Michael Huff to my trained eye looks like he could be a really good player with some tweaking for us if we don't feel like paying Mike Adams when his deal is up, he might be an option for us but we'll see since Adams had an unbelievable year where he made the pro bowl.

All in all after a few free agents we'll be ready to roll this season, it's going to be a blast to feild all these young players and drive me nuts at the same time. We've also set ourselves up very nicely for next years draft class with 3- 1st round picks (Green Bay/Houston/Buffalo), 3- 2nd round pick (Green Bay/Minnesota/Pittsburgh), 2- 3rd round picks (Green Bay/Philedalphia), 1- 4th round pick (GB) and 1- 6th round pick (DEN) at our disposal.
